I'm 56 When I was a school Our music teacher would play this on guitar we would sing......then one day she said she was leaving..unlike other teachers she was very nice. We were gutted. Anyway we had the last sing song. At the end of the song She ripped out some wild guitar solos That I now know to be JIMI HENDRIX..... HOPE SHE IS STILL WITH US GOD BLESS YA. ps I can play some mean rock guitar......
Used to love this song on Junior Choice with Ed Stewpot - brings back so many memories of childhood! It always made me feel like I wanted to go the zoo IMMEDIATELY if not sooner!
My mum told me about this and so I thought I'd have a look. I think the bit that amuses me most is the fact it's her singing to an audience of adults. And them singing back.
Just so good, God bless Julie. Saw her on The Frost Report and other Brit programmes in the late '60s, think she may have even had her own show for a brief period. Sing this one to my granddaughter.........timeless music.
Im 58 now and remember parents playing this when we went to the zoo. Today we are going to the zoo with the family and we are all singing this song on repeat, we going to the zoo zoo zoo 😊
oswald wellman this was a famous and well known song for many around the world, including me! Julie was one of my favourite artists - the song was not just for kids at all!
Y'know, I was in my 30s before I ever heard it, and yes, my first exposure to it was that Monty Python sketch. I, too, am envious of all those who grew up with this fantastic song! I have made sure this doesn't happen to my children. We sing it every time we're on our way to the zoo. And we make up verses of our own, too! (Lions, giraffes, alligators, kangaroos, etc)
THIS IS FOR MY AUNTY GAYNOR, SHE WOULD PLAY THIS FOR ME IN HER CAR WAS MY FAV AND I USED TO LOVE VISITING WELLINGTON AND STAYING WITH HER AND MY UNCLE THEY HAD THE MOST AMAZING VIEW OF THE LISHTS WELLINGTON MAGIC
A crowd of mostly men sang along to this song when this was made back then. Now it's a children's song that's probably been covered by Coco Melon. But Damn, She's Purty!
I saw her perform in the early/mid noughties and every other song was announced with "And here's another song written by Tom Paxton." I still have the autographed CD from that night.
Python for me too. I'd get the weirdest looks from people when I suddenly go into this one while bored or mindlessly strolling down the street not really realizing how loud I'm doing it,and they don't believe I didn't make it up!
I was forced to sing this many times at primary school music lessons. We used to sing, "We're going to the loo (slang for toilet) tommorow. We can do poo, poo ,poo. We're going to the loo. If a few kids sing that and most kids sing "zoo", the music teacher couldn't hear it.
I think it’s a very sad song about divorce and the implications on nuclear family and children. The parents are obviously separated and taking their children to the zoo on separate days.
This is probably gonna make me sound like a lunatic, but definitely remember a song from school that went something like "With my hands on my head, what have we here? This is my brainbox, my teacher dear,,,,,,Nicky nocky nacky noo,,,,that's what they taught me when I went to school!"....dpes anybody know this song??
All Though Julie is from across the pond she was classed as Britains Answer to Joan Baez as Donovan was the British version Bob Dylan all 4 are great by the way I saw Julie at the theatre Play house Weston Super Mare some time back and she sang going to the Zoo But it was at the end of the show the fans went wild Great lady
You are clearly the one misinterpreting their body language. There is some clear disdain smeared on the faces of most of them. Sure, not all hate to be there but most clearly seem to be forcing the painfully awkward smiles that are so begrudgingly crafted by themselves.
Rest in peace and happy journey Julie Felix. This song has never failed to brighten my mood.

We are off to the Zoo in the morning so I just played this to my kids R.I.P Julie x
Wow I hear this song and get a tear in my eye, such a great childhood song.
My mum told me about this and so I thought I'd have a look. I think the bit that amuses me most is the fact it's her singing to an audience of adults. And them singing back.
Because they wanted to relive their childhood. We all want to occasionally.
Rest in Peace Beautiful Julie, thank you for your beautiful music God bless you xx
Just so good, God bless Julie. Saw her on The Frost Report and other Brit programmes in the late '60s, think she may have even had her own show for a brief period. Sing this one to my granddaughter.........timeless music.

Absolute legend. Sadly missed. RIP, ...... see you at the zoo. x
I never heard anyone else sing this song Julie .sang it with such personality and fun, it became a signature piece.
Looking back over the comments i see two that think this an "only for children" song,
oswald wellman this was a famous and well known song for many around the world, including me! Julie was one of my favourite artists - the song was not just for kids at all!
+nalarepooc1. I'm glad you agree with me.
Yes I do Oswald!

So who else got directed here from a Monty Python skit?
This song inexplicably plays in the background of a Monty Python sketch. Just an example of how zany that show is.
I love the animated look on her lovely face when she is singing this! Sadly, she doesn't like to sing it anymore :(
RIP, Julie Felix. Lovely song, and also like "El Condor Pasa".
Ah the joys of 60's folk, julie at the zoo, PPM chasing puff, and the seekers on the morningtown ride
Rest in peace Julie 14 June 1938 - 22 March 2020
damn. kids looked older back then.
AM STILL in 2021
A crowd of mostly men sang along to this song when this was made back then.

But Damn, She's Purty!
She was very pretty indeed ☺
I keep hearing people playing guitars and singing!
Don't forget who wrote it! Tom Paxton! Plus other great songs for his own kids, Jennifer's Rabbit and The Marvellous Toy.
I saw her perform in the early/mid noughties and every other song was announced with "And here's another song written by Tom Paxton." I still have the autographed CD from that night.
A brilliant version of this great kid's song from the sixties !
Monty Python brought me here!
One of their better skits. Although in truth, they have very few bad skits.
Love this version
RIP Julie
she's playing the song to twenty-some year olds
One of my best friends, Dilly, in Canada loves this song!
Python for me too. I'd get the weirdest looks from people when I suddenly go into this one while bored or mindlessly strolling down the street not really realizing how loud I'm doing it,and they don't believe I didn't make it up!
Well she's gone to the zoo now and isn't coming back. I used to sing this a lot at music lessons as a child.
What are they doing in my stomach?!?
Clearly a lively and charismatic performer
I was forced to sing this many times at primary school music lessons. We used to sing, "We're going to the loo (slang for toilet) tommorow. We can do poo, poo ,poo. We're going to the loo. If a few kids sing that and most kids sing "zoo", the music teacher couldn't hear it.
13 persons didn't come here because of Monty Pythons.
I went thru 39 versions till I found the right one.
YUP
Heard it in The Frost Report (David Frost's TV show) back in the 60s.
Exactly, she sings "Sniffin' up the peanuts".
I'm sure I had Julie singing this on tape when I was little, or it sounded very like her anyway!
I need a death metal version of this.
Best song ever.
Written by Tom Paxton. Good song.
love it!
She wonderful
The hippie squatters were playing this in Michael Palin's stomach.
For me old mucker and the birthday girl. ❤❤❤❤
I'm 16 and I like this song
The Gaming Lion yes Tom la
you are a twat then
oh yeah! Dilly loves this !
As played on radio 1s junior choice years ago
Before the tragic demises of keith chegwin
And ed stew pot stewart
I'm afraid were going to have to operate.
I remember Captain Kangaroo had this song with a video with a family with two or three children, with a toddler in the video.
Very nice!
I think it’s a very sad song about divorce and the implications on nuclear family and children. The parents are obviously separated and taking their children to the zoo on separate days.
What coincidence I'm actually going to the zoo right now
Im just teaching this song to 2-3 year olds in an international school where i work, They love it !
Came from Monty Python's Flying Circus/Psychiatry Sketch from 1970.
I remember this from a group called The Singing Kettle - Scottish children's songs in the 80s :)
+mistofoles I sang this song when i was in the brownies in the early 1970's
+mistofoles I sang this to my class about 6 years ago - got them to join in with it. Yes I remember it well.
♥️
All Though Julie is from across the pond she was classed as Britains Answer to Joan Baez as Donovan was the British version Bob Dylan all 4 are great
by the way I saw Julie at the theatre Play house Weston Super Mare some time back and she sang going to the Zoo But it was at the end of the show the fans went wild Great lady
But why isn't Tsai Chin's version on RUclips?? Anyone got The Western World Of Tsai Chin l.p.???
Stay Safe Everyone 💚
She should have sang this to a group of children instead of adult's.
This is like an advanced difficulty version of Old McDonald.
RIP
An I thought they were all off their faces on LSD in those days
I was 8 year old in 2012
I didn't hear that line about being killed by a bear the first time I listened to this song....
WHAT was the black bear doing??
This was real music not what we got today with the likes of Nikki Minaj, lady Gaga etc
There is nothing than a expensive operation cant fix, Mr. Notlob!!! aaaah.. Monty...
This needs a remix.
what is the b side to this single?
That audience! They looked like they SO didn't want to be there! That poor woman, singing that song to those zombies,
jiggarypokery Why are you misrepresenting the obvious fact that most of the audience is smiling with enjoyment and singing along with Julie ?
oswald wellman No they aren't. Those are the fake smiles of a tortured soul.
The Skeptical Nerd You must have severe communication problems with people , as you are obviously unable to discern body language.
You are clearly the one misinterpreting their body language. There is some clear disdain smeared on the faces of most of them. Sure, not all hate to be there but most clearly seem to be forcing the painfully awkward smiles that are so begrudgingly crafted by themselves.
The Skeptical Nerd I feel sorry for you
2023 😂
Python... Nuff said
Wow. good looking chick!
sniffing up the WHAT??
Simpler times
Those men in ties do not want to be singing along.
