Dude, she's not gonna sleep with you for simping like this.
When Twitch did a 'women's day' event, 'Just Chatting' was the top category and half of the female 'streamers' were doing stuff like putting on a movie and staring at it, or just being a cam girl without the nudity.
That's why female streamers grow in popularity. It's a male majority audience and thus there's a large number of simps. You're overthinking these things.

Amazing video! Thank you for being supportive of Female creators! Also that transaction thing you mentioned at around 11:00 I've seen my friends experience regularly. Rich men think they can buy their way into anything. especially since some of these creators are often poor or living paycheck to paycheck, they know they have power because they're their biggest supporter. it's truly disgusting.

Great video as usual. I’m glad something like this exists and hope it reaches those who need to hear it most. I’ve had so many unacceptable experiences in the short time I’ve been creating content, so many boundaries crossed. Sexual harassment, inappropriate chat messages and DMs, and even had a guy recently pretending to be a woman to get closer to me (was later exposed and banned). It sucks questioning every interaction and worrying about safety all the time. But yes, thanks for making this video! ❤️

One thing Id like to not is that Twitch is dominated by men because it grew as a gaming platform and nothing else, but I do hear your argument about It not being as easy as we think for females

    • @livvylag
      @livvylag Год назад +3

women don’t take as much space in gaming because we get harassed and sexualized until we quit, before we have time to get serious about gaming and start channels about it etc. gaming being a male dominated industry is very sad but also true. this is why it’s so important to take every opportunity you can (especially as a man) to stop the harassment and allow women to play just like you do- unbothered and enjoying the game. (this is in no way a negative response to your comment i just went on a rant because your comment inspired me lol)

Thank you so much for covering this topic! I'm a very small female streamer - more like a micro-streamer, really 😂 (only started about 7 months ago) - with just under 200 followers and 5-10 average viewers at best. Even as tiny as I am though, I've had to ban 3 separate people just in the last week or so for making inappropriate sexual comments in my chat, and I just recently resorted to adding "OnlyFans" to my list of banned terms. 😑
And fwiw I stream mostly RPGs, generally dressed in "lazy-but-idgaf chic" style lol (baggy t-shirt, no makeup or anything). I can only imagine how much worse it must be for women who actually put any effort into looking nice, or stream in more combat-based or stereotypically "guy" genres.
Anyway, thank you for helping set the record straight! 💙

i used to stream (taking a break) two years ago when i was 15 and i’ve always been into doing eyeliner and my style back then was ‘girly’ and i was playing first person shooters. men, knowing i was 15, harassed me every single stream, making comments about my body, and the worst part is earlier today i went to look at my clips, and the only two were me taking my hoodie off with a tank top under. i didn’t say anything, nothing was happening in that moment, they purposely clipped a CHILD taking a hoodie off. they had quite a few views too. so now i’m watching safety tips before starting my streaming again.

But they do have it easy. I can't name a single female streamer who is actually good at the games then play or have personality.
I define 'good' as top 1% of a player base in ranked. The vast majority of a female streamer'a regular viewers are simps.

    • @wolfiris666
      @wolfiris666 Год назад +1

@kelvynward7867 well I do know some immortal female players in valorant and I do know maybe some ascendant players who are super nice and do have a personality. But to have a regular viewer base you don't necessarily need to be good at games, just funny or a nice personality same goes by guys. Frting glitter for example is one of them. She isnt bad in the game itself but also not the best, but she is quite entertaining to watch and has lots of regular viewers. The fact that you think that women aren't good in games or that someone doesn't have a personality, isn't funny AND isn't good in any games can still be successful is just 100% wrong and based on some jealousy deep down bro.

    • @kelvynward7867
      @kelvynward7867 Год назад

@@wolfiris666 I don't play Valorant. Did this individual get there solo?
The reality is the majority of women play multiplayer games like this for attention because they know that there's a lot of desperate guys out there.
If I get a girl on my team in LoL with a feminine title in her name like Miss, Princess, Queen, etc then I dodge the game without hesitating. I know it's a loss if I stay unless her simp duo is with her.
I don't think it's jealousy at all, it's just being a female attracts more people to play with and no real talent or personality is required. If the top female streamers were men, there's no way they'd have an audience.

    • @wolfiris666
      @wolfiris666 Год назад +1

@@kelvynward7867 if you dodge simply because of that, then the problem isn't on the girl itself. Having the mindset that someone isn't good in LoL or wtv games just for being a girl... ? cmon man.

Dan, thanks for using your platform to talk about this. It's refreshing to see someone talking about this so explicitly and shining a light on how just truly horrific of a time female or female presenting creators experience just existing on the internet. As a cis-gendered white guy I am fortunate that I don't have to deal with consistent harassment when I'm online but I have had occasional new and returning viewers express a lot of the views you're trying to counter in the video that I've swiftly had to squash. All in all, you handled this topic with a great deal of sensitivity and I think that there is value in this regard to a cis guy talking about this since, unfortunately, the people that hold these views are more likely to listen to another guy.

I think this is very well said. I'm female and have many female friends who are streamers/social media icons/etc and it's really wild how frequent sexual harassment is for them. As an amateur streamer, I definitely understand now that the crowds I want to connect with are definitely not the kinds of massive crowds that just want to stare at beautiful women. I think with the boom of vtubers and giftubers, it has helped ease the sexual harassment for some. Using an animated gif, I feel a lot safer and thankfully, have not been sexually harassed. Just like you said, I still have to put in the effort to be a good streamer regardless of the way I look.

One of the most important videos ever made by a "stream content" creator.
As much as I do know a good few women/women presenting streamer in the music space, this isn't what I was 100% aware of. It's definitely something that exists, and not just in the stream/content world either. I could guarantee that, out of most women in the generations around mine, an overwhelming majority IF NOT EVERY SINGLE ONE has received some form of unwanted sexual advancement if not harrassment or rape. Since we have been married there's been at least a couple of instances of someone trying to kiss my wife, with one even saying "where is your husband, it's not like he's here".
It's a fucking embarrassment to be a man at times, and the thing is that even saying that I know on those days I still have it easier than a vast majority of women.
Men - Do fucking better. It's not enough just to be like "grrr this is bad". If you see something, do something.

Hey! I just stumbled upon your channel in the wee hours of the night lol and I wanted to thank you for speaking on this topic.
Streaming aside, I have to say that being a gal existing in the online gaming sphere in general is quite taxing to say the least. Especially that as someone who's dealt with anxiety issues their entire life, it can be very defeating just trying to play a game and regularly getting berrated or having misogynistic comments thrown at you just for existing.
I've enjoyed gaming all my life. I first roughly entered the online world of gaming when I created my Steam account in 2009- when I was still a teenager. At the time I faced harassment then in online game lobbies for having a "feminine-reading" voice, so much to the point that was afraid to talk in vc altogether. It's sad to see that over 10 years later, this still remains a prominent issue for anyone female.
I unfortunately am leery to delve into streaming in general due to terrifying individuals online who could seek to breach my privacy, stalkers, etc. As a woman, I would never personally choose to show my face if I did stream, because doing so would put my personal safety more at risk. And this is sad really that it's the reality that we as a society continue to live in. This goes for everyone: no one deserves to be mistreated and harassed because of how they were born. No one deserves this.

I've had to ban four guys for being inappropriate to her, telling her they love her, trying to add on discord, begging for private chats. I kinda consider myself a nerd and I mostly do art streams as well as games sometimes, and I want people to like my streams for my talent and personality and being funny and original, not because im a woman. A lot of female streamers seem to want to capitalize on the 'theyre pretty' part of their stream and I really don't want that. Also I feel like there's an even bigger stress that comes from people expecting you to be beautiful because you're a woman. Like I really don't care about my looks I care about the content I make and I want to make people laugh and be interested. Honestly the experiences other female streamers have had in their chat kinda makes me scared to put my face on screen. But I also love how interactive the stream gets when theres a webcam, such as showing your emotions and doing more irl stuff. I could go the Ranboo route with the sunglasses and mask but also I'd like to find my own thing.

Twitch entirely, and I mean entirely, is based upon viewer decisions. You can't say 'this person stole my viewers' because that's not how it works, viewers are individual people who watch people they have a connection with. (The same way that females don't say 'why isn't there many female streamers in the top paid list' because less viewers choose to sub)
Then we get onto the 'females get more viewers', like you said that is statistically wrong. If there's more viewers for women in the 'low-mid tier' of twitch, maybe people should consider that it's because female identifying viewers have less options, it's less saturated. (It's the same thing as complaining about a foreign language streamers).
As to the last segment of the video, I'm just so sad that these types of things happen and I'm hopeful and grateful that those women are safe because a lot of the time IT CAN go further. So if any female streamers read this, please use a VPN, please keep your personal information private and please take care. (You shouldn't have to but it's a scary world).

My male friends only get less that 10 views on twitch unless they are a very very relevant and popular twitch streamer or looks handsome af that panders towards the women audience.
Women, you dont even need to have their face on camera. Their voice alone brings in all the simps to the yard. Yeah highest earnings are men but if you put 30 random men and 30 random women as streamers what is the ratios between the audience that would follow between these 60 random streamers? Id say at least a 20-40 or a 10-50.

Absolutely agree with the sentiment of this video. The internet in general is not a safe place for most women and twitch is no exception. I fully believe the vile things that many, if not most, have to deal with.
It's a little intellectually lazy to suggest that a handful of top streamers reflect the platform as a whole, although still a valid point.
But in my experience I have clicked on streams of attractive women but if they are dull or uninteresting, I haven't stuck around. There are plenty of superb female streamers. People who suggest someone like SweeetTails is on around 2k average viewers because of her looks have never seen her content. As talented, funny and entertaining as any male I've seen, if not more so

  • @DarthWakko_THF

This is a very tough subject and I believe you handled it very well. To be honest, I've been that guy that has made dismissive comments about female streamers regarding their growth vs their looks, etc. in the past. I'm not proud to admit that and I only say it because I want to apologize to anyone that may have heard me express that sentiment. It's not an ideal that I've held onto for quite some time. Just because there is a market for sexualized content, it's shameful and toxic to lump all females into that category and completely disregard their talent and efforts. Quite frankly, it's ignorance and jealousy. Men everywhere, we must do better.
The harassment aspect of this video however, is something I had never considered before. I've heard of creepy dudes sliding into DM's before of course (also not okay) but I had no idea to what extent or frequency. This is despicable behavior to say the least and I have a new found respect for any female streamers that has to deal with this to any degree. It takes a lot of work to stream, it can be taxing on mental health from many angles and at best this is an added layer of frustration that no one deserves to have dumped on them, regardless of gender.
Thanks for the content xTwoShoes. Keep it coming. Those with an open mind will hear this content and be better for it and that is great for the platform overall.

One of the very first streamers I ever followed was a girl in the crafting space when she only had a few followers simply because i wanted to dip my toes in slowly (I will not say her name here, but she is brilliant and so chilled, she makes everyone feel welcome) and through her met a great many people of friends of friends, brought people to her stream and she mine and her friends who got to know me in time, I tried never to make it weird....she is just a girl doing her own thing and we are good friends to this day that I can randomly pop up in her stream and she will stop what she is doing to give me a personal message and talk directly to me, and the same with to her...I work crazy hours at work so haven't seen her for a while [conflicting timezones] and I haven't been able to stream for the past several months but I do not blame her for having way more viewers than me, it is what it is, people who watch her want to watch crafting whereas I like science and the occasional game of warzone. To each his own, her followers are unlikely to watch me but sometimes she brought her viewers to watch me play and they quickly disappeared...had I been crafting I may have been able to convert a few to regulars but when I was streaming I had a few who are into dinosaurs and science who wouldn't care that she is croqueting a beanie.
We all take different paths on our journey, I am sure if I did a hot tub stream I would certainly be able to compete with the best of the best in that space, but it wouldn't be entertaining to look at and would probably give a few people nightmares! lol (hence I would be lucky to get one viewer that bounces out in 1 second)
The argument that women are getting more views cos they are women is stupid, just look at the Euro 22 finals as an example, they should be in the kitchen making me a sandwich, the women brought it home FINALLY and got my mum, a 70 year old lifelong hater of football screaming her heart out in joy when Kelly scored her winner [her now favourite player], there will be some who watch women, and some who watch men. I bought her tickets for her birthday to see Kelly play at the City ground in October and she cried in joy. She dislikes mens foot
ball but loves the womens game. Horses for courses.
It is just the way it is.
I am proud to say I have a varied mix of friends on Twitch who I can raid if I ever come back and support, without making it a 'them vs us'

For the average streamer/content creator, a woman will gain more viewers faster than a man. You see it all the time when scrolling through Twitch. The flip side of that is women do in fact deal with more harassment than men do. I don’t think anyone denies that.
It’s like this…women (especially an attractive one) will get more viewers short term. Men get more viewers long term. It’s just the nature of the beast. Men are more inclined to watch a pretty face for a bit. They may even sub or gift. However they tend to fade out over time. Where as for a male streamer their viewers build up much slower and over time. Which is why they tend to have the most viewers overall. Hence your examples of the top 1%.

you’re not wrong but you’re not right either… *attractive people* get more clicks but any normal person leaves stream and doesn’t interact if the content doesn’t interest them. it’s not easier to grow short term for women, it may be more click-generating to be conventionally beautiful but the content you provide is still just as harshly judged before people decide to pay you for it.

You people act like we cant literally go onto twitch ( don't log in just go to it becsause logging in it will only give you channels close to what you yourself usually watch) and see who is at the top in most of the categories? All the male streamers he listed are pro gamers in their respected games I know half of them because they are pro/top 500 overwatch players. This video is insanely biased at the end of the day no one should deal with harassment and that’s not what I’m defending here. What I will say is that for women it’s 100% easier to get the ball rolling vs a man trying to do the same thing streaming the same hours and putting in the same amount of effort during and after stream. I think the difference between them is that for a dude the sky’s the limit really once they get it going they can get as big as they want to provided that they keep consistent effort with high quality content.
Whereas for a women doing the exact same thing for same amount of time people might choose to only value them for their looks regardless of the fact that they are genuinely funny and creative people who make high quality content. because of that most women who stream will hit a wall with their brand and this is also an issue that should be talked about but to act like the only reason why this “narrative” is being spread is due to “misogyny” just isn’t true.
Even if we looks at psychological studies it’s very clear that being “attractive” plays a huge role in how people perceive you. With that no women should ever feel like they can’t have a face cam or mic on stream but to just dismiss that they might have an advantage in some areas is just wrong (imo)

  • @PodMonkeyCWC
    @PodMonkeyCWC Год назад +2

I know I'm commenting on an older video, but everything you say in this video is wrong. I wrote this comment as I watched it, so it's a point-by-point rebuttal of everything you're saying.
The simple fact that there even was a hot tub meta, where women could do nothing but simply exist in a bikini and get money shows how easy it is for a woman to grow on twitch. And you point out, that the extent of the content is "sit in a hot tub and write names on their arm." Do you think you'd be as popular as you are if all you did was sit in a hot tub and write names on your arm? Of course not. And hot tub streamers didn't get backlash because people thought it was easier for them to grow, they did it because they were putting on the equivalent of a strip show on a platform with kids on it. There are platforms for that shit, and Twitch ain't it. Saying "platforms change" isn't an excuse.
And your whole rant conflating the dislike of hot tub streamers with "stealing viewers" is irrelevant to whether girls have it easier on Twitch. Two completely different subjects.
And then you go into your next bad argument, "Now we're going to look at the top ten most watched streamers." The reason this is irrelevant is that no one said that girls have it easier getting into the Top 10 or even Top 100. This is a straw man that you're arguing against. The statement is "women have an easier time growing and being successful." Unless your definition of "successful" is "Top 10" then there's no reason to bring up the Top 10 or Top 100. People trying to make videos like this constantly try to use the Top 10 and Top 100 argument, just like you. And it's always wrong.
The "Highest number of view records" is the same argument repackaged, and just as irrelevant. No one is saying women get the most viewers. Remember, the argument is that "girls have it EASIER" not "girls get MORE". There's a huge difference.
"Highest earning streamers" is again the same irrelevant argument.
Future Dan is just as wrong as Past Dan with the Top 100 argument, because it's still irrelevant to the argument that girls have it EASIER. It's not about who is most successful, it's about how easy is it to grow. You're speaking so enthusiastically and you're absolutely completely missing the point.
And the next bit, "I know people will argue in the chat..." This is trying to poison the well and straw man at the same time. You have no idea what people in the chat are going to argue because you haven't even presented an argument against the problem that you're saying you're addressing.
Then, in continuing to avoid the subject, you now ask for female streamers to send you anecdotes, which are all irrelevant to the subject "girls have it easier growing on Twitch" or "girls have it easier on Twitch."
15 minutes and 33 seconds of video and not once did you actually address the argument you put in the title.
No one is saying that being a woman will make you the most successful on Twitch. Literally no one believes that. No one is saying that being a woman will put you in the Top 10 or Top 100 of most viewed, most subs, or most earnings on Twitch. The argument is "It is easier to grow on Twitch as a girl."
To pay one's bills on Twitch, all a girl has to do is sit in a hot tub, bend over with a mirror on her ass, and write names on a dry-erase board. It literally doesn't get easier than that, and not one man can put in that little effort and achieve even 1/100th the growth or success. Or do you believe otherwise.

I think you make very valid points and the abuse that female streamers deal with is criminal. It's truly awful. I would not wish that kind of abuse on anyone and it's inexcusable. Also, I don't see ANYONE else's success as "stealiing" views from me as you put it. That's nonsense thinking. Watch what works and learn from it if you want to be successful.
That said, if you want to be real about this topic, we all know that streaming (or social media in general, instagram, tiktok, whatever it may be) is easier to gain followers if you are pleasing to the eye (Heller Harris has a video on this). I promise you if I do the exact same content as Amournath I will NOT get a following and certainly not one as big as hers lol. This is the way the world works. This is why we (or at least me) try to look nice before I fire up my stream. It's also the reason it's easier to grow if you have a nice looking streaming room with an interesting background. People are more likely to click on your stream when browsing if you are attractive and/or your environment looks interesting and nice.
So when I say it's easier for a cute girl to gain followers, I'm not saying they don't deal with other issues that I don't (other horrific and very serious issues!!). I'm saying that if you take two content creators that do the exact same content and one is an unattractive person with a messy room in the background while the ohter is a beautiful woman with a nice space and pleasing lighting etc.... She WILL get more views, subs and watchtime. Also, your list about the top streamers being male is a good stat and duly noted. However, most streamers are male, as are most gamers. This is changing, but those top guys also got started when the balance was even more tilted towards males.
I appreciate your video and I'm glad you put a spotlight on some of these issues. But I just want to keep it real so people aren't getting it twisted. More attractive people with an attractive environment have an easier getting popular on a visual medium.

most people don’t subscribe to content they don’t like. yes, more people may CLICK on the stream but as soon as they realize it’s not content they enjoy most of them leave. onlyfans is where people go to subscribe for ‘pretty’ content, twitch is an entertainment platform where most of us are just liked because of our content, not what we look like. more clicks is more exposure yes, but it doesn’t make it easier to get a sub. subs may be more frequent due to the more frequent clicks but i assure you we have to try as hard as you do to get a sub or a long-time watcher.

I dont think its about who has it easier. I think everyone is different and some have it vastly easier and some have it vastly harder. Gender has nothing to do with it. I see some females doing so much better purely because they are so cute and easily loved. Yet a guy lets say that isnt cute and isnt easily loved would find it a lot harder. I also understand that you should be putting your strengths on the frontlines. AND most don't! Thats why some people are growing a lot faster then others. We need to stop saying who has it harder and who has it easier when it comes to gender because its total crap. Its down to each and every individual that either has it harder or has it easier. AND when it comes comes to thick skin we all need to have it super thick if we are going to make it anywhere on social media. Sad part is most dont and it makes it a lot harder for them to push through it to get to the good parts.

This kind of thinking is the SADDEST thing I have ever seen. I personally do not use a webcam, I like using a static image that lights up when I talk because I think the highlight of my streams is comedy and games, would I do better if I added one? Maybe. But on the topic of female streamers, I learned I get a lot less lewd comments when I don't have a webcam up and running and I prefer it that way. You viewers are not being stolen by hot girls, the people coming to twitch to watch hot girls are not coming to to twitch to watch for anything else than that specific topic and that's fine. If you wanna show skin, do hot tub streams, make money on people who are there for that kind of content then go for it. But being blamed for others not getting views is Ludacris. Look at your content and change it accordingly to attract the viewers you want. Build a community. Most people making comments are just mad because they decided one day that they wanted to stream but have done nothing to improve their content, or network, or researched how to make their streams worth watching. You get better results the more WORK you put into your content and that will always be the case. Blaming female streamers or hotties from taking your views is lazy as Hell. Improve yourself and stop degrading other people! This video is incredibly well done and you aced breaking down a lot of myths people wanna believe. Amazing work, Dan. As always. On the top its almost exclusively male but thats just the top.
They also have more and "better" revenue streams money wise.
This is all just guessing but I assume the average donation and sub to non sub ratio is higher for women.
Unlike men they can use Wishlist and many these days sexualize themselves because OF spits out a lot of money.
Without directly getting 1 dollar you need to get a lot of people to watch your Ads.
They shouldn't be too surprised to not be among the most popular streamers though.
Most focus on sexualizing themselves for the win and you won't get every soul with that.
I don't think many many women watch Amouranth for example and many guys stricly avoid this type of content.

Technically, the same revenue streams are available for all. It's the creators decision if they want to use them.
Main point is that, many people lump all female creators in the same pot of "they are sexualizing themsevles". Not all do, and more power to the ones that do imo. It's not content for everyone on Twitch sure, but its the way it goes.

Do not underrate your own voice about this. I think it is important to someone like you - a more know creator - to speak about this. It is important to keep on talking about this as long as this kind of attitudes are normalized. Thank you.

LOL and men get in game messages telling us to kill ourselves and get called many obscenities but hey lets keep pretending that women get nothing but hate for being women in games, despite the whole simp phenomena and how just chatting is mostly bikini streamers and some are even streamers that have thousands of views just from them sleeping with a camera on. You are literally comparing apples to oranges. I don't understand why people keep forcing the "women are just a bunch of weak little victims" narratives. I don't believe they are weak nor victims. They are getting the same crap that men have gotten since online gaming became a thing waaay back when us men were little boys. When you join a male dominated industry you should be expected to be treated the same as the dudes grew up learning. This "woe is me" nonsense needs to stop. Everyone has bad online experiences doesn't matter what's between your legs. Hell I had an online female stalker for 4 years each time I blocked her she would make a new profile to stalk me some more. Everyone deals with creeps and arseholes.

Not all female streamers are targeted. Take a look at Maya's content; she creates fantastic content focused on animals and dresses modestly. It's disheartening to see the number of female streamers who intentionally wear revealing clothes and sexualize their streams for views. I recently saw a Japanese girl wearing only a bra during her stream, which is quite concerning. Male streamers, on the other hand, do not go live wearing just underwear or engage in similar behavior.
It's important to avoid grouping all female streamers together because many of them produce excellent non-sexualized content. However, the female streamers who do sexualize their streams without shame tarnish the reputation of other female streamers as a whole. Sexualized content has no place on Twitch. The hot tub trend is absurd and toxic, degrading the platform's reputation.
It's quite unfortunate that someone could mock Twitch streamers, saying, "You stream on a platform where girls in bikinis splash around in a kiddie pool and beg for money? Yikes."
If Twitch were not such a popular platform, I would choose to stream elsewhere.
Furthermore, intentionally using excessive cleavage for attention is a manipulative tactic for click-baiting. It's just as deceptive as creating a misleading RUclips thumbnail or title that doesn't accurately represent the content.
If anyone believes that girls who sexualize themselves for profit on Twitch are providing genuine "content," they are mistaken. It requires minimal effort to apply makeup, put on a bra, dance in front of a camera, and respond to questions from desperate men seeking attention because of their physical appearance.
This observation does not stem from misogyny; it reflects the reality of how many men perceive these girls. The behavior of these girls is honestly pathetic, and I believe Twitch lost a significant amount of respect when it allowed such sexualization to occur.
Additionally, it's evident that these girls have no regard for their viewers; they are solely focused on collecting donations and subscriptions. A genuine content creator prioritizes their audience and places themselves second when it comes to the content they produce. Moreover, it's delusional to believe that these girls aren't diverting attention from legitimate content creators who invest countless hours into their stream productions. While Twitch bears responsibility for allowing this behavior, there is no reason for me to be sympathetic towards these girls who clearly prioritize monetary gain above all else.
