Kpop has been using orchestral arrangements for a very long time. RV in particualr has always used trap beats and R&B influences, but 2019's "Psycho" was the first time we ever heard "New Age" or "Neo-Classical" influences creep into their sound. Red Velvet uses them a lot now. And as someone who has been listening to Yanni since forever, I'm totally here for it. Their most recent album "Chill Kill" illustrates this to perfection. They've LONG been known as having the best vocals and discography in Kpop.
Psycho isn't necessarily my favorite Red Velvet song, but my god if it isn't their magnum opus so far. It is a perfect blend of their two musical sides, great instrumentation, especially with every chorus getting busier and busier (more psycho if you will). It feels so desperate and morose, but in a way so uplifting and full of vibes. It's hard to describe.
As I'm sure others have told you, Red Velvet is under *SM Entertainment,* who is the undisputed vocal powerhouse in the kpop industry. *EXO, Red Velvet* and *Aespa* you've heard, now you need *SHINee* and *NCT.* (There is also *RIIZE, Girls Generation* and *f(x)...* but I'm not as familiar with them so I wouldn't know what to recommend.) My favorite *SHINee* song that goes hard on vocals is *Symptoms,* but it's a b-side, so no mv... but I think you'd really like *Don't Call Me,* as the production is suuuuper interesting. *NCT* title tracks are usually more rap heavy with amazing vocal moments... where their vocalists really shine is on the b-sides however. One vocal b-side with an mv is *From Home.* Or if you want a track that is both rap and vocals, I'd recommend *Boss.* *NCT* is a special group in that they have 26 members currently. Yes, you read that correctly. 😄 However, they typically operate split up into 4 fixed member units *(127, Dream, WayV* and *Wish)* ... when they come together on the occasional full-member album, then we get *NCT U* (the U stands for United) and is a non-fixed member unit, which basically means they mix-n-match members from the overall group based on who fits a particular track best. Both *From Home* and *Boss* are NCT U tracks. I hope you check them both out! SM has really cool and interesting production in general that I think you'll continue to be impressed by. edit: if you want a more recent NCT song, I recommend NCT Dream's *Broken Melodies.* Again, it's a b-side but it does have an mv. :) OR... there's a fixed sub-unit called *NCT DJJ* that is comprised of 3 members from NCT 127, who are so far an R&B vocal unit. For them I'd recommend *Perfume.*
@@AlexSinclairMusic Red Velvet is experimental but in a more audience-friendly way. f(x) was flat out more experimental, veering all the way from bubblegum of "ME+U" to the hard hitting electro beat of "Red Light". House and EDM is where they shone. f(x) was the first kpop group to headline at SXSW, with songs like "Electro Shock", but sadly were left to wither on the vine by their label. Deflinitely worth a dive thru their catalog!
I have watched this reaction 7 or 8 times now and I am still so stoked for you that Psycho was your first Red Velvet song. Great reaction and it is a lot of fun to see someone love RV as much as I do.
3:14 that note is also used in a horror song called Hide and Seek. please check it out, i was guessing all this time - what's that note that i heard from and yes i just found out that most of horror songs are using the minor keys, which is make sense LOL. im new to music and im curious to learn more about it. amazing reaction and explanation Alex!!!
@AlexSinclairMusic what is what? SM Ent releases like a "family" album every year - or used to be every year. They go back and forth between winter and summer. Their scale for SMTown tours is on a whole nother lvl. Every album has collabs and diff combo of their artists. Like TVXQ + Super Junior. NCT boys + Giselle from Aespa. Lots of mix and match. For "Time After Time", the only gripe I had was that I personally wanted an all-mature woman vocal line; NingNing is great but her voice was a bit too "young" for me in that song.
I Love Red Velvet , and they're so under rated , they have a very unique, quirky concept but somehow it all makes perfect sense...BTW they're known for their vocals if it wasn't obvious
Of course, red velvet is the best. They're one of the three leaders of the third-generation K-pop Girl group. Red Velvet, TWICE, BLACKPINK Red Velvet: Diversity, Artistry, Musicality Among the third-generation girl groups, the prettiest member is Red Velvet, the best singer is Red Velvet, and the best dancer is also Red Velvet. Nevertheless, they are all all all-rounders. This is a very natural thing. When they entered as trainees, SM Entertainment was the top. Of course, Korea's best talents have gathered. Because it's red velvet that came out together like that.
Red velvet never disappoints with the vocals. If youre taking recommendations, i would suggest kingdom come. Its a bside but the vocals are amazing. I also like wildside (underrated japanese release), bad boy (an iconic song). Honestly every song is amazing. The killing voice is definitely a great start for a sample of many songs

You’re finally getting to arguably one of the best vocal girl groups in KPop! One of my favorite groups! If you think they have vocals, Girls Generation will blow your mind. Check out Girls’ Generation when you get the chance. I recommend Mr. Mr. or You Think from GG.
You may want to check out all the artists under SM Entertainment. SM is known for two things: Vicals and Visuals. SM groups include: EXO, NCT, SHINee,, Super Junior, TVXQ, Red Velvet, Aespa, etc. It's a shame the k-pop groups in the newer generations from the other agencies don't consider Vocals a priority.
The girls have something for everyone, thats how diverse they are. Out of 80+ songs, there are 5 that I will skip. That being said, while you are still learning who is singing what, I would strongly suggest finding the lyric videos and watching those as well. (Go to search on RUclips, look up Red Velvet Psycho Lyric, for example.) This way you can get the lyrics in English as well. These videos are very helpful until you can tell thier voices apart. Don't feel bad if you can't tell them apart right away - in the beginning, several fathers could not tell their dauhters apart.
Thank you for reacting to Psycho! If you're into vocals, you should check MAMAMOO! They don't suit Korean beauty standards so they use their vocal skills as their main weapon in the KPop industry. MAMAMOO has a lot of great songs and various genres, so MAMAMOO's Dingo Killing Voice is a great start to introduce you to their discography. Killing Voice allows artists to perform some snippets of their songs and many KPop creators have reacted to this. Here's the video: ruclips.net/video/WvkTcNQsxzc/видео.html (don't forget to turn on subtitles!)
@@AlexSinclairMusic Oh really? Wow, I'm so excited to hear you're going to react to MAMAMOO!
