Hello! Welcome to the BJD hobby, I hope you'll have lots of fun! You're girl there is considered a 1/4th scale doll, and I would look for clothes for her that are called Slim Mini or Slim MSD. Etsy is a really great place to look for all kinds of clothes, basics like leggings and sweat shirt and dresses plus all kinds of other things. Hope that helps. Sorry you got deceived about the recast thing though, it's really easy for newbs to buy them unknowingly. I did want to tell you about Doll Leaves girls though, they have a lot of the same aesthetic and body shape as your Soom girl there but you can get a girl the same size as your's legit, for $150. I have several of them and they are just really gorgeous dolls that pose great and are very economical too. Denver Doll has several in stock right now even! Just be sure to get the DSB45-03 New Dream Body if you decide to get one. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much Jessica! I was told she was a 1/3 bjd so that should help big time knowing she is a 1/4! Should I also look for 1/4 size shoes as well? And I’ll definitely have to check out this other bjd you are describing!
No problem! 1/4th scale dolls are usually 40-50cm, 1/3rd scale dolls are usually 60-70cm. Shoes are definitely treacherous territory, you really want to be sure to check measurements before buying them because there can be a very wide range!
I don't think your doll should be discriminated for being a clone or recast. The fact of the matter is that clone or not she IS a BJD regardless. I personally think it's fine for other companies to produce clone dolls at a more affordable budget because let's face it, not everyone can just drop $600 for one doll. I only have a problem with cloning if they try to pass them off as an official brand name product and charge you the same amount. I've always wanted one of these dolls! I first discovered them through "DOD" (Dream Of Doll) but the closest thing i have to a BJD is my Moxie Teenz dolls. Your doll is quite lovely! Thanks for sharing :3
It's his right if he buys a legit bjd or recast.I love the Soom bjd as well and know of it's insane prices. Bulling someone based on legit or recast is wrong. However, those planning to buy a recast need to know what a recast is and its controversy and understand and accept the consequences of buying a recast especially now with the climate the bjd hobby is in. There is news of a well-known recaster trying to steal logos from many legit bjd companies in China. The recaster is financially able to do this because of people buying recast from him.If this recaster succeeds it could make a lot of the companies we know and love decide to close down because they do not profit from recasts. If that happens there will be only the same dolls recasted over and over again but no new dolls created and everyone loses. Recasts are not a knock off it's when a person takes a legit doll and illegally takes a mold of it and makes copies of said doll and sells them at an extremely low price sometimes these recast are spot on accurate and some have odd shrinking and other problems however most often than not a sacrifice is made the either quality and/or lower quality resins that are toxic if you breathe it in and you won't know until it's too late. A knock off, on the other hand, is when someone takes a product and makes a product similar to the original. But like I said before it's a person's right to buy legit or recast. I know this hobby is expensive however, there are ways to get what you want without recasts. Here are a few options if you are interested: 1.hybriding taking the body or head of another bjd company and putting it on a more affordable company body or head or just for aesthetic reasons a lot of people do this. 2.Layaway is always an option I don't think many people have $800 to fork over unless the save up for it. 3.Save up 4.try to find a similar sculpt from a more affordable company 5.Another thing to note is that most people in the hobby are nice and that we connect by sharing information. If you ask kindly you could find more info on Soom Dia and about if someone is selling the head at a lower price. 6.Buy practice heads they are around $20-$25 without a faceup and legit and then invest in a body If you have read untill the end thank you, I just had to get all my thoughts out on the subject.
Congrats. I hope to see more what you do with her. ACBJD.com is a great dealer for a lot of bjd. Not hating on your recast, but if anyone is looking for a legit doll close to the recast price range, but much better quality, there's Resinsoul, MYOU (event now on ACBJD for 15% off), Doll Leaves, Impledoll and Mystic (they have a lot of events too, 10% now). It's hard to find bjd clothes because they differ so much. Stretch material is awesome and you can a good amount of stretchy clothes on Etsy. Dollmore has a lot clothes and sell in a good range of sizes. You just have know your measurements and research what you're buying. rrbabit.com doesn't have a huge selection, but it's a good place to check. DenverDoll.com has a decent selection of clothes. Volksusastore.com is good, but pricey. Most clothes, especially the nice ones, are pretty pricey.
I agree and acbjd.com, denverdoll.com and volksusastore.com have a layaway options.DollyPlanet.com also sells bjd and are having a promotion where when you buy a doll you get a coupon, wig, wig cap, eyes and a pair of shoes for your doll they also carry Myou doll which is currently having a 15% off sale so even bigger savings I say.
I remember seeing these dolls on RUclips videos and I love them so much they are so pretty. I love pullip dolls too I only have two of them I have one called nana Han and I also have miku the blue version of her
She’s super cute! Sight Hound (Jessica) has some good advice about the clothes. I also agree that BJDs seem so complicated! I’m sure you’ll figure it all out though.
Jessica is a wonderful lady and he helped me out quite a bit already! I searched Etsy for 1/4 bjd Clothes and sadly I didn’t see a lot of options :/ I’ll keep looking!
Jpopluvr1000 Your doll after some research is in between sizes(slim msd top and regular msd bottom due to hips) can be tricky to dress. You can find some info about what they can wear here: denofangels.com/threads/imda-4-3.739079/page-3.It surprised me how big she is compared to a minifee Your best bet is to find someone who also owns this doll on the Soom imda 4.3 body line and see what items work for them, get custom fitted clothing from Etsy shops or buy normal msd tops and bottoms that may be a little baggy. Another thing you could do is if you purchase clothes from a bjd company let's say volksusastore.com they make clothes for their own line of dolls called dollfie you can take their dolls measurements(mini super dolfie/msd) and compare it to yours so you have an idea if the clothes will fit or not. Always pay attention to the measurements of the clothing, wigs, shoes, eyes from each shop. Some bjd shops do not post exact measurements of their clothing so I would ask if the clothes and other items labeled msd or slim msd would fit your doll before buying. Just because an item says it's msd does not guarantee it will fit your doll that goes for any size of bjd. Acbjd.com has a custom fit service for some clothing they carry.
Be prepared!!! Recasts are a big NO - NO to some in the bjd community- but this comes from stupidity. Ebay and ALiExpress have strict copy right rules. Please go to their rules and regulations for sellers and the items they sell. I get most of my BJD dolls from Aliexpress and have been very pleased with the quality ( some minor webbing that I sanded and buffed down myself on my THREE Dollshe Venitus). You can't go wrong with the prices on Ali. They are so cheap that it is hard to believe. But this raises the question why "legit" dolls are so expensive and takes months and months to produce when they can take about a week to make and a little less than a month to receive from doll stores on Ali and Ebay. I personally believe that it is mostly a scam and I have yet to be convinced otherwise by those rabid pro - artist members in the BJD community. y.
Not hating on your choice to buy recast, but the hate of others doesn't come stupidity. There are arguments on both sides that are intelligent and well thought out. Legit companies have a lot of people they pay and support, including the artist, so it cost more to produce a legit doll. A recaster only has the cost of the doll and cheap material. There is certainly a moral issue with buying stolen intellectual property. It's not right, but we all do things that aren't right, so it's how it fits in your scale of morality is up to the individual. I have a lot of legit dolls and two recasts. The recast aren't the same. You pay more for a recast than you get out of it and I feel most the legits are well worth the price. It's just a personal perspective. Again not hating, but I don't think it's fair to say people who buy legit are stupid.
Baloney!!! Any artist can contract work out - resin is cheap nowadays and some resins can cure in twenty minutes. If a recaster can produce a doll in a week - NO ONE - should be waiting months. Also what dolls are you talking about. I buy my recasts on AliExpres and coincidently from Luo. Both Ebay and Ali have strict rules about pirated work that can lead to stiff penalties. I personally believe this is a scam and much ado about nothing and "legit" dolls and art dolls ARE NOT BEING RECAST. The dolls on Ali are the same old dolls over and over again with just a different face up - a teeny tiny sliver of dolls which are produced legally with the right to produce them. What I do find STUPID is the repetition of the same shit - starving artists - poor little companies BLAH BLAH BLAH. I am a capitalist - that which can't survive and compete dies!

That's the most beautiful bjd doll I've seen also I like the size too, well bought!
Here is a link to the company's page. Her measurements should be at the bottom of the page. dollsoom.com/eng/shop/item.php?it_id=1517383920
