Having a client travel hours to see you, having a client wait weeks to see you, having a client refuse services from other stylists, having a client drag her entire family in to meet you, having a client sit in your waiting room in case you can take her as a walk-in...honestly those are the biggest compliments that you can get as a stylist, and that's when you know you're good!

She came to you because the stylists she came in contact with: 1) didn’t want to do her hair, 2) charged an unreasonable amount, or 3) when she paid their required price; she wasn’t satisfied in with the service she received from the stylist. This is the reason why she tried to do her own hair at home. It’s hard finding a good stylist these days. You make your customers feel comfortable in knowing when they leave your chair; their hair will be easy to manage and beautiful. Great job.

This is the first video I’ve seen where people acknowledge the damage Keratin treatments can do on a person’s hair. I did one about 8 years ago and I actually went to a salon to do it. It was great at first, but then I noticed my hair would tangle like crazy and I was like never again. It took about 4 years to get that mess out of my hair and the only way was to get constant hair cuts.

This is so freeing! I am chronically ill, and I can tell you our hair goes through everything with us, only it saves the experiences like a scrapbook. Flares of my autoimmune disease are marked in my hair like rings in a tree stump. I'm an expert at faking a look, but even if hair looks good on the outside, cutting off 8 years of mistakes and bad energy can be extremely liberating, both physically and emotionally. This was amazing to watch.

I did a keratin treatment at the salon on my fine, natural hair and my hair FELL OUT over time! I had really long bra strap length hair with lots of hair strands and now you can see through to my scalp, it has beet devastating. It is growing back but what a tough lesson to learn!!!! Your client is lucky that she still has hair after a keratin treatment. Your client hair is beautifully done!!!

Feel for you-TRULY. I too went through something similar. Last November went to throughly incompetent “stylist” who over-treated hair-which started shedding from the root 🚩within days! Was completely devastated, yet took responsibility for choosing so poorly (long story, there were red 🚩flags everywhere), being so cheap, stubborn, & not heeding the warnings.
Luckily my hair grows quickly, so the bald spots have grown out about 3 inches, and most of the damage can be hidden with parting & clipping. Still I SWORE OFF EVER setting foot into a salon again, UNTIL I saw Crystal’s videos…SHE’s HIGHLY SKILLED, PROFESSIONAL, & HAS SOLUTIONS when problems arise. Have already decided a trip to MCO will be in my future!

Oh man, this video made me smile. I grew up in a beauty shop (that's what we called it, Mary Ann's Beauty Shop). It was my Mom's shop and it was in our basement. Your black sink brought it all back to me. I loved her little set up. Blond wood cabinet with black sink, counter and accents. She was Italian and had perfect, soft curls. I was italian, German and English and she blamed my fine, frizzy, puffball hair on the English side, lol. I heard that all the time. All those products she tried on me. She used gigantic pink curlers and perm solution to try to straighten it out for me because it was the 70's and my friends had long, straight perfect 70's hair. Didn't work for too long, My curls do what they want. Crystal's hair was just gorgeous. I'm subscribing to you Miss. I hope your business keeps booming!

Girl! I got so fed up looking for a haircare professional. These stylists charging $75-$85 for a flat iron BUT saying they don't detangle! Soooo you don't wash my hair??? And I'm supposed to pay you $75-$85 and do everything myself?! I ended up doing my own hair and trimming my own ends. I'll be driving back to Cali to my old stylist next time.

I love that gave her the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I am one of those people who see my ends are needing a little special attention. I will go to another stylist. First I cut my ends and I have been to one stylist. She said she could not cut anymore off for me. I said ok and went to my stylist for thirty plus years. She cut off the rest of the nick nack ends. I don't trip over hair it grows better when those split are cut away and not pulling on the good undamaged strands. I also make hair cocktails for myself and for my niece. I applaud you Chrystal. I suffer with really dry and flaky scalp due to a health condition which has also changed the texture of my hair due to medications that are taken.
In order to combat this I use aloe straight from the plant. I use a fork to break it up, scoop out with the back of a large spoon and then push through cheese cloth for really smooth aloe that is clean.
I apply it on dry hair and let it sit while I watch a movie. Rinse, use a light amount of shampoo just to remove excess and then let air dry.
My hair has improved 1,000 fold. I am white so not sure how this works on curly hair for black women but I love it. Hopefully it will help someone with these same issues.
Thank you for the excellent care you provide to all your clients. Good stylist who care about the health of the hair vs desired looks for $ are so hard to find these days!

Great job. I went to Ulta and after getting my hair done, my hair refused to curl. The products that were used on my hair made my hair feel weird. All I ever had to do was wet my hair so I was upset. I gave myself an ApHogee treatment which I had been taught to do and have several times.and my hair was in worse shape and refused to curl at all. Absolutely amazing and total unbelievable craftsmanship!!! This is a talent and craft and a work of art to be commended. My granddaughter is 20 and she’s mixed and has been relaxing her hair for very long. When she was young it was so beautiful “ natural” she does not want to go that route ( which saddens me). She needs a lot of trimming from all the relaxing done but won’t dare cut it to remove it as she wants to let it grow longer. Is there a way I can convince her to cut off more without coming across as seeming rude bossy or judgmental because I’m not that kind of grandmother lol

60 year old gay white man here who's always been very good with (at least) white womens' hair and I've done some Image Consulting. You are an INCREDIBLY talented hair dresser and I love Love LOVE seeing people's damaged hair made whole, or at least put back on the track of being whole again. It's SO gratifying....most especially with African American hair since the INSANE "trends", gimmicks & TORTURE done to it over the past 40 years has done untold damage to millions of women. To see their hair come back and NOT permed, colored, twisted, corn-rowed, dreadlocked, or FRIED, DIED & LAYED TO THE SIDE is truly fantastic. Congrats!!

I've literally been going through this issue for several months now. Wanting the luxury of wearing my hair frizz free in the summer months, I decided to go to a professional to get a "natural keratin" treatment. It great at first (minus her being an African American who didn't evenk now the proper technique of combing out my natural type 4 hair. But thats another story) but after my first wash, I realized the treatment added some sort of shield on my strands that nothing was able to penetrate. I've literally been cutting and inch or 2 every month from what started as waist length hair. The convenience of the treatment was great being able to detangle my hair in less than 5min without pulling out any hair and not having my hair revert from humidity. But how it felt and reacted to products wasnt worth it. I've been looking for a stylist for 2yrs now. Only to come into contact with ones that jumped on the natural hair care bandwagon and have not one clue. I wish u were here in NY......keep up the good work sista!!!

I'm in the same boat. My stylist got tired of my natural hair and recommended relaxers, keratin treatments( she said it was just a protein treatment that would last for 3 months), and hair dye claiming it would just make my hair more manageable for all of them. When my hair was relaxed it was thick but she never styled how I wanted it. I said no to all of them and have been getting my hair braided. It's been a few years since I have been to her salon and she still calls & texts asking me to schedule a hair appointment.

Honestly I wish more women who work with hair were like you. I've had so many bad experiences that I just quit letting women touch my hair. I go to an amazing older gentleman barber. But it was a hard sell to get him to help me because he almost exclusively handles mens hair. I think he only did it out of pity the first time because I came it with 12 inches off in one section because a female hairdresser couldn't tell the difference between 12 and 2.
