sitting doesn't kill em, it's the cold starts. Cold oil doesn't flow as well, and has to bypass the oil filter until it's hot to get enough flow to the bearings. For all the nay-sayers thinking an American car or truck can't go over 1,000,000 miles, you need to change your poopy diapers and get off of your high horse. It is possible that this truck has a lot of highway miles, wear and tear in city driving and short trips is what wears out an engine prematurely. This is why engines in semi trucks last so long, 90% of what they do is highway driving. I have seen a 1987 Ford F150 with a 300 straight 6-cyl with 1,214,000. A 1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88 with the small block Olds 350 with 916,000. A 1988 Buick Park Ave with 640,000 on the 3.8 V6. A 1990 Dodge ram with a 360 V8 with 774,000 miles. All of these are documented from the repair shop i work at. I am not saying this is normal by any means, I am just saying it is possible. What kills engines and transmissions prematurely is the way 90% of the way people drive them today.
Right, its never been to home depot, the grocery store, other houses/businesses, and was airlifted onto and off of the highway by a chinook helicopter. The guys a seafood distributor.
Long distance, highway driving will help any truck hit a million miles. It's the only reason why a Toyota Tundra recently hit a million: running parts back and forth across the country.
Read about this guy, its legit. No internal engine parts replaced, waterpumps and acc stuff but the longblock has 1.2mil on her. He drives like 2500 miles a week or something like that delivering.
i've said this once, and i'll say it again. keep a vehicle up to date on oil changes, dont neglect any single part of the motor/drivetrain, and it'll last you forever.
Just bought a '95 GMC Sierra with 325,000 miles (522,300 kms) at an auction. No one wanted it because it's a high mileage vehicle. I got it for 370$. She purrs like a kitten. Whoever owned her before took really good care of her.
I don't care what brand it is, if you take care of your vehicle, regular maintenance, even washing it, there's no reason why it shouldn't give you a ton of miles. The whole Ford versus Chevy bullshit is old and tiring. I've owned both. Both are great...if you take care of them.
so true and washing comment is soo important every body's always like why is your truck so clean .easy amsward because I dont want it too get rusty.it makes a huge diffrents
The TBI unit and intake on the L05 are known to be less troublesome than the spider injector setup on L31s. that's why you see guys swapping L05s into jeeps instead of L31s
+Texassince1836 I have 212k on a L31 with zero issues to date. Youd never knew it was a 200k mile engine if you didnt look at the odo. Ive heard they have issues. I doubt the spider injectors are the main reason for not swapping L31s though. For custom builds an L05 is better simply because there are more parts available and you dont have to mess with the OBDII BS. Its a much more basic 350 block and probably produced in greater numbers than the L31s, which were only made for a handful of years. The L31 heads are far superior to the L05 heads but can be swapped, so you get the best of both worlds. Stock for stock a L31 is still a superior engine with the same block and durability as the L05.
+Teh Agent L05 was used 87-95, L31 was used 96-02. the L31 production run wasn't too much shorter than the L05. and both are still being produced and sold new by GM, so availability isn't the problem
There is a AC Delco upgrade for the spider injectors with the poppet valves that get carboned up over time that uses the later type MFI system with injectors that fit into the intake ports. Installed on my 98 5.7L over 4 years ago and they work great.
1989 GMC 1500, 5.7L, 360,000 km on it, still ran like a top, nothing major was ever replaced on it. Sold in 2 years back, I miss it to this very day :(
I own a 1994 GMC K1500 bought it brand new . It has 235,000 miles and I can drive it anywhere without an issue. I wouldn't sell it for anything in the world, it has the 350 TBI engine. It's bulletproof in my opinion!!!!
I have a 2000 silverado with the 4.8 motor, 150,000 miles on it, only maintenance I'm doing are, change oil every 4,000 miles, air filter, spark plugs, and fluids, it runs and pulls like a brand new car just off the dealers lot. Not one issue on this truck whatsoever.
I don't see a million mile truck... Volvo has a car with 3 million and doesn't look like a jelly bean. We have a few pickups at work with over 400k, both Ford and Chevy but they both run pretty rough. They would be lucky to make it another 100k
It all depends on the owner how they drive & care for it (doing maintenance) there's a guy in Maine with a 1960's Volvo with over 3 million miles on it original motor and trans... all I'm saying is it takes an owner with the desire to keep the vehicle going.
Tundras, Tacomas, and semi trucks are the only ones that actually last 1 million+ miles. Chevy and Ford’s don’t really last that long, their outer _shells_ do. With Fords, you’ve gotta replace things. But with Toyota? Someone got a Tacoma or Tundra (I can’t remember) to 1M with it’s ORIGINAL V8.
its all in how ya treat them,i've rebuilt my entire front end, water pump, lower control arm rotted in half, all new brakes, had to fabricate rear shock mounts and a bar going across the box(after putting a new box on),the 4l60e finally kicked the biscuit cause second gear left a couple weeks ago(clutches), all at 371000 kilometers...proves salt, harsh winters, and working a truck will beat it down alot faster, bottoms of doors we're peeling off and a little bit around the wheel wells, rockers inner wheel wells parts of frame etc. lucky for me i can fabricate and do body work so it'll always look like it did when it came off the lot in 97...indestructable, nothing is...but if you don't neglect stuff and maintain it you will have it a lot longer than it was designed for,the 350 still rolls once in negative 20 before its purring though...that i would say is actually bulletproof lol
Can’t kill a GM truck. Chevrolet and GMC are the tuffest trucks ever made. You see more classic GM trucks on the road than anything else. GM trucks always had modern designs before ford and much better suspension designs
I know a mechanic with a 1993 Chevrolet C1500 long bed pickup that has more than 260,000 miles on the original 5.0 V8 engine and automatic transmission. Teal metallic, Silverado trim package, all power options, ice cold air-conditioning (still R-12 by the way), no rust. Could use a good detailing, plus the stereo speakers are blown and parking brake is nonfunctional, but other than that it starts right up and runs like a dream! Love 1988-1998 C/K pickups!
We had a 1985 ford f-150 300 straight 6 that hit 700,000 it was my grandfather's and he would go literally 30,000 miles til he had the oil changed and the transmission half the time wouldnt let you into first. but it ran strong and it was only a rear wheel drive. it still had most of its horses as well.
The oil changes are overrated. Not in a sense that you shouldn't do them but people in these vids overhype it so much as if it's the only thing you need in order to achieve that rate. Save some money and don't do 400 oil changes :)
Mine was family owned since 97 got new and made it to 1,432,892 the the trans went out for the 4th time needed tires and well everything so I just rolled it in the yard and she’s sitting there till I make her new again for my dad the original owner parked since feb 2019
my dad got a 98 z71 that got 650,000 miles on it the only thing thats been changed was fuel pump and a driveshaft but the driveshaft being broken was my on fault but he never found out lol
This guy is completely full of it, that truck has 216k. My '89 Silverado was meticulously taken care of with oil changes on time always, but by 300k it was burning a couple quarts a week. At 330k, the oil pressure finally got low enough due to the worn out bearings that it spun a rod bearing. This dude's claim is just as fake as the "just for men" hair color on his head. There is no way to magically escape normal wear and tear.
Funny my 87 305 has 221k still has plenty of oil pressure. It also depends on where you drive it city driving wears a truck out wayy faster then highway
MavDude It's funny. Most odometers can only go to 999,999 miles. So when they get to 1,000,000 they turn back to zero. That truck actually had 1.216 million miles on it
This is why I won't get any import, I'm a nut the imports won't be able to crack, always had GM and Ford and Chrysler and never yet had one I didn't love.
You know what I love about my Chevy. The trucks are like legos . You have a 1965 with a worn out engine . New LSX will bolt right up to your transmission. You want a big block in you 69 79 89 99 2009 itll bolt right up. Needs a transmission with more umph th400 4l80e will plop right in. You dont like your electronic push button transfer case gues what ass a stick. You just have to know what blocks fit where. Like a rock!
you sure the odometer isn't on 50,000.0? those odometers only read to 99,999.⁹ before they roll over to 00000.0 you would have to roll that one over to 0 five times before the truck has (5)00,000.0 miles
+Texassince1836 I have a '00 Silverado with a bone-stock 5.3 L33 making 315HP and 338LB/FT of torque...Last truck was a 1997 Sierra (Yes, a 97) with a TBI 5.7 in it (Truck had sat for a while, fuel system was redone)...by and large, the 5.3 outperforms the bigger 5.7 in every aspect but pulling ability...the 5.7 would effortlessly, and I mean EFFORTLESSLY yank around a 5000LB Cutlass on a 2000LB trailer and you'd never really know it was there. not to say the Silverado wont, but there was just something about those motors... I will say the L33 5.3 in the Silverado would walk all the fuck over a stock TBI 350 anyday when it comes to 1/4 or 1/8 mile...but then again, they're pickups :D
Until I read this story Id never heard of an L05 breaking a million either. Doesnt matter if you havent heard of it. Maybe, just maybe, things happen outside of your tiny little world.
Some people don't understand! If you take care of your car! Your car will take care of you!

@@flight2k5 you ruined the fun lol 😂
These L05s and L31s were excellent motors in the durability department.
I don't think you get the big picture, but that's fine. I don't have time to argue with an armchair mechanic on RUclips. Have a good day sir.
There is a AC Delco upgrade for the spider injectors with the poppet valves that get carboned up over time that uses the later type MFI system with injectors that fit into the intake ports. Installed on my 98 5.7L over 4 years ago and they work great.
No way that motor hasn’t been rebuilt a few times!
got a 1994 Silverado 1500 with 333333 miles on it still looks new just regular oil changes runs great lots of compression
My dad had a 95 Chevy pickup with 160k, and it was the quietest engine ever. V6 Vortec
Today I bought this exact truck. Except mines green. 1994 5.7 350 It has original 94k miles. No problems at all. She sounds like a new truck.
1989 GMC 1500, 5.7L, 360,000 km on it, still ran like a top, nothing major was ever replaced on it.
Sold in 2 years back, I miss it to this very day :(
My 1992 c1500 has 306,576 miles and still running
I know an 01 Tahoe with 220,000 miles, other than wear and tear, it's never had any problems.
I own a 1994 GMC K1500 bought it brand new . It has 235,000 miles and I can drive it anywhere without an issue. I wouldn't sell it for anything in the world, it has the 350 TBI engine. It's bulletproof in my opinion!!!!
Would be better with a 6.5 for more torque and twice the fuel economy.
The Chevy Ram and Toyota see they last forever and the motors still going strong on high mileage
Damn right! I had many Chevy and GMC trucks cross over the 200,000 mile mark with ease, also had a GMC with 440,000. Best trucks ever!
Anything will last forever if you keep throwing money at it.
Nsa Van What is that the slogan for all the import owners?
Demographics say that import owners tend to be highly educated. Truth is a bitch.
And that is what I am going too do too mine my chevy goes too grave with me
Marriage? Not always
I have bought gm all my life and I am 75yrs old great cars and trucks
I have a 2000 silverado with the 4.8 motor, 150,000 miles on it, only maintenance I'm doing are, change oil every 4,000 miles, air filter, spark plugs, and fluids, it runs and pulls like a brand new car just off the dealers lot. Not one issue on this truck whatsoever.
I don't see a million mile truck... Volvo has a car with 3 million and doesn't look like a jelly bean. We have a few pickups at work with over 400k, both Ford and Chevy but they both run pretty rough. They would be lucky to make it another 100k
Dam rite!! cheers to that chevy! and the owner!
It all depends on the owner how they drive & care for it (doing maintenance) there's a guy in Maine with a 1960's Volvo with over 3 million miles on it original motor and trans... all I'm saying is it takes an owner with the desire to keep the vehicle going.
Thats great to see that they can last that long with a little work and taking care of it
Tundras, Tacomas, and semi trucks are the only ones that actually last 1 million+ miles. Chevy and Ford’s don’t really last that long, their outer _shells_ do.
With Fords, you’ve gotta replace things. But with Toyota?
Someone got a Tacoma or Tundra (I can’t remember) to 1M with it’s ORIGINAL V8.
this makes me love my chevy even more
its all in how ya treat them,i've rebuilt my entire front end, water pump, lower control arm rotted in half, all new brakes, had to fabricate rear shock mounts and a bar going across the box(after putting a new box on),the 4l60e finally kicked the biscuit cause second gear left a couple weeks ago(clutches), all at 371000 kilometers...proves salt, harsh winters, and working a truck will beat it down alot faster, bottoms of doors we're peeling off and a little bit around the wheel wells, rockers inner wheel wells parts of frame etc. lucky for me i can fabricate and do body work so it'll always look like it did when it came off the lot in 97...indestructable, nothing is...but if you don't neglect stuff and maintain it you will have it a lot longer than it was designed for,the 350 still rolls once in negative 20 before its purring though...that i would say is actually bulletproof lol
i'm sure that truck has had 5 of everything. thanks
Can’t kill a GM truck. Chevrolet and GMC are the tuffest trucks ever made. You see more classic GM trucks on the road than anything else. GM trucks always had modern designs before ford and much better suspension designs
Video was to short would like to see more of the truck and more info
Search for "Frank Oresnik million mile chevy"
The seat and steering wheel.
I know a lot of chevys with 250,000 plus, the fords with the ol 300 six would do 400,000 miles.but any car now will last if you keep the oil changed.
Yes, if you get regular oil changes, and change the fluids, most vehicles will last about 350 or 400k miles
"Any Car", that includes Fiats. hahahahahahhahahah
You drive an International not a Ford.
My 1998 Chevy 1/2 ton has 335,000 kms and still going Strong!
208,000 miles, yawn!
My 89 had 190000 before the 355 swap. And my 95 with the 4.3 vortec has 319000 on it. Great trucks
Mine was family owned since 97 got new and made it to 1,432,892 the the trans went out for the 4th time needed tires and well everything so I just rolled it in the yard and she’s sitting there till I make her new again for my dad the original owner parked since feb 2019
haters haters haters so funny
LOL
my dad got a 98 z71 that got 650,000 miles on it the only thing thats been changed was fuel pump and a driveshaft but the driveshaft being broken was my on fault but he never found out lol
Funny I've seen more then one million mile chevy but yet to hear of a ford or dodge hit a million yet
Ive seen two dodge 2500s with Cummins diesels over 1 million miles
Kyle Stewart that's a diesel not a gas engine
there has been quite a few Fords 5.4L and power stroke engines to go over a million miles and a few Dodge cummins to do it as well
Danny McCarthy ive never seen a 5.4 get past 200k
I really don't give a fuck what any of you "have seen". I haven't seen them was my point
Just bought a 84 gmc 3/4 ton, owner before told me it still had the oil in it from 2005... Unbelievable about good she still runs
Sometimes you just get lucky and sometimes you don't. Also depends on the oil you put in it. But a lot of it is luck.
That truck actually had 1.216 million miles on it
Luck has nothing to do with it. This is B.S., all there is to it.
MustObeyTheRules my 85 c-20 with a 305 had 230k and had very good oil pressure too
i grew up, with CHEVROLET, Now i love my 2020 trail BOSS 6.2🇺🇸.
I want to see more videos like this I have a 95 stepside I would love to see more about this particular truck
This is why I won't get any import, I'm a nut the imports won't be able to crack, always had GM and Ford and Chrysler and never yet had one I didn't love.
My 99 4Runner has 271,000 original Trans and engine. Burns no oil and shifts great.
My dad drove a truck just like this one, no idea of it's still on the road today
Older chevy trucks were tanks
Justin P. I'm pretty sure all old cars are.
ScaleneMass27 YT yes and no
+ScaleneMass27 YT My '78 Chevy 3/4 ton two wheel drive pickup is 275pds heavier than my '66 Chrysler Newport TownSedan. 4550vs4275 pounds
Cowboy Kody Well of course, it's a truck. Trucks are heavier than sedans.
Ford and dodge too
It's not a dodge, or ram junk here, it's a chevrolet.
As they say, 93% of fords are still on the road. The other 7% made it home
my grandpap has a 1977 Chevy Cheyenne and it has a little over 500,000 miles on it and it still starts on first turn- obviously it drives too.
you sure the odometer isn't on 50,000.0? those odometers only read to 99,999.⁹ before they roll over to 00000.0
you would have to roll that one over to 0 five times before the truck has (5)00,000.0 miles
+Texassince1836 No they don't..
+Clark DeYoung the odometer only reads to 99,999.9
not 999,999.9 like newer model trucks
Texassince1836 I see
+Texassince1836 NOPE your wrong they went to 6 digit odometers back in late 1980's this truck is about a 91 so it has a 6 place odometer
LOVE BOTH FORD AND CHEVY WITH ALL MY HEART AND ALWAYS WILL
This is why i love the TBI 350, if your SPID label doesn't say L05, your truck aint shit
+Samuel Lowe 97 is not a TBI 350, same basic motor, but different fuel injection system
+Texassince1836 L31s were better. More power, same durability.
+Teh Agent ive never heard of an L31 over 1,000,000 but this guy has 1,300,000 on an L05
Until I read this story Id never heard of an L05 breaking a million either. Doesnt matter if you havent heard of it. Maybe, just maybe, things happen outside of your tiny little world.
I will always be a Chevy truck driver
Toyota sucks
You said it LOL
