  • Phylicia Rashad is one of the most iconic mother figures in the history of American television. In the 1980's she became a household name with her role as Clair Huxtable as Bill Cosby's wife -- in the hit sitcom The Cosby Show. The Cosby Show is considered one of the biggest surprise hits in American TV history. For 5 straight years (1984-1989) it was the most watched show in the nation. Since she has starred in movies, TV series, and on Broadway shows-and in 2004 she became the first African American to win a Tony for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a play. In this conversation with Maria Hinojosa, she talks about growing up during segregation in Texas, her relationship with Bill Cosby, and where she finds her inspiration.

    What she just said (her realization in the moment after tasting the water) is SO profound when you consider it is a child's mind that realized it..."Humanity had tricked itself"...All because to a kid, different signs mean different water and, clearly the water tasted the same so the CHILD immediately recognized "Okay...clearly somebody's been tricked..." PROFOUND!

    I had two moms growing up. My biological mother whom I love dearly and my TV mom which was Mrs. Clair Huxtable played by Phylicia Rashad.

    Let me rephrase Mrs. Rashad's statement. White people in the south had no humanity. That's why they behaved the way they did. That's also the reason conservatives act as they do today.

    • @GR-le1ms
      @GR-le1ms Год назад

      Now that is false. I live in the south and the majority are good people, and I'm not white. Also, do some research on the party that created Jim Crow laws, the KKK and pro slavery. It wasn't conservatives.

      @@GR-le1ms First of all let's not play stupid. The values and political beliefs of conservatives and liberals have literally swapped from what it was during those times. The Republicans from back then are the Liberals of today and the Liberals from back then are the Republicans of today. Same parties who basically swapped values and names. Secondly during Jim Crow times majority of Whites in the south were indeed racist and absolutely had no humanity. We aren't referring to the way things are NOW....HOWEVER there are still many Whites in the South and throughout this country who have no humanity towards people of color and other minorities.

    • @GR-le1ms
      @GR-le1ms Год назад

      @@skmmmonae9323 you're correct, let's not play stupid. Fortunately I have done extensive studies in the matter. The parties never switched, contrary to popular belief. Conservative values are aligned with Christian values.

    the lady doing the interview is technically a white woman...of spanish descent but ignorantly referring to herself as hispanic and not white.
