      I keep all my small garden tools in it. Since our garage is occupied with kids bikes and skates, ball and scooters. Actually it is very convenient to have right in the middle of the garden, quick to get to.

    Olga, please advise how to deal with thrips!! I think I brought them from the nursery with the new roses I bought. Now my Olivia an Eden both have thrips 😭🙏🙏🙏

    • @OlgaCarmody
      @OlgaCarmody  Год назад +1

      Gosh, those pests! The more I talk to different rosarians, the more I think that organics won't work on thrips. You have to do systemics on huge infestations. I really don't use systemics and can't advise on them. Do the research (I heard about Merit (imidacloprid), Conserve (spinosad), or Orthene (acephate). Again, don't rely on my info, do the research, what would be best to use and when. I also know that spring soil drench with systemic drench is better on beneficial bugs than foliar spraying.

    Olga, I love your videos. I am fairly new to climbing roses and understand the concept of pruning only the laterals. I am confused about the tip of the main cane which produces blossoms. Are those blooms to be headheaded? Will this stop the growth of the main cane? I have watched many pruning videos and no one seems to cover this part of it.

    • @mrsnuffleuppagus24
      @mrsnuffleuppagus24 2 месяца назад

      I would love an answer to this question too as my roses are very young and are only blooming on the tip of the main cane as I'm still training them vertical.

    This for myself is divinely providential, as im only growing my first roses ( bare root in Brisbane Queensland Australia) right now and I was counting leaves yesterday on all nine roses. Its been 2 full weeks. So thank you.
    Most are 5 leaves, one that came with smaller stems a Kordes Perfuma has 3 leaves. But I have another two of that particular rose, Gratin Diana with 5.
    I wonder if I can find in a Kordes, a strong Fragrant Miniature rose at all!
    I have just planted bare root three Kordes dawrf Fairy Red in the one large flatish pot. I cant wait till they pop their little rose buds out! I have them sitting high above the fish pond. Being in a semi-tropical climate, the colour will be richly appreciated with the other colours there. Being, Birds of Paradise & the deep dark green foliage growing too.

    • @OlgaCarmody
      @OlgaCarmody  Год назад

      Thank you. What to do with new crazy growth? Mercilessly trim it away. I know, cringe, but the more you do it, the more you realize that it is just necessary. If you have too much to trim, maybe your climber is too big for the space you gave it...

    Olga this is a fantastic video thank you. I now feel safe to prune mine. I have had the generous gardener for over 3 years now. Its had 2 main canes only and hasn't produced any more . But... I chopped a main cane 2 years ago buy mistake and the laterals have turned themselves into main canes if that makes sense. I also trained a main cane at a 35 degree angle 🤣. Which seemed a great idea at the time haha. The laterals are 2 meters high. Can I chop these 2 meter laterals down quite low? I was told to cut one of my main canes out to promote new growth but I'm glad I didn't until i got your advive..sorry for the long message but you are my best teacher 😊

    • @OlgaCarmody
      @OlgaCarmody  Год назад +1

      Hi Davena, those laterals, if we let them take over, will turn into monsters. I cut them right at the beginning. If yours are in "monster" stage already, I would see if I can make out of them main cain extension, (optional, if longer canes are needed), or just trim them short. Don't worry, your rose will be fine with it.

    • @davenadainton4209
      @davenadainton4209 Год назад

      @OlgaCarmody thank you olga. Yes already in monster stage. Most of the laterals have took over but only having 2 main canes in 3 years I'm glad they filled a space. I may chop them hard in winter but for now they will definitely be cut a lot shorter after they have flowered. I struggle with this rose as I didn't train it right in its first year. In all honesty I didn't have the room for this rose. It was the first rose I ever bought and I didn't read the height. I had no idea what I was doing haha..thank you x
