Believe it or not, Yosemite Sam is the hardest Looney Tunes character for Blanc to voice, due to him being raspy. And Sylvester was his normal voice with a lisp.
Ironic considering that rabbits and hares are traditionally sweet, fluffy, timid and harmless little creatures unlike those savage beasts like lions, tigers and bears 😅😅😂😂
I always found it hilarious that so much of the action wasn't shown, like the lions using tools to lower the stilts or when Sam is lowered into the sewer/trap door. They left a lot of it up to imagination and Mel Blanc's terrific voice acting.

"Don't sneeze, you stupid dragon! Or you'll blow us to the moon!" The fact that the tower Sam and the dragon were in acted like a rocket made it even more funny.
Warner was at their top of their game when these shorts were originally released during the 1950s and 60s. Sure Sam debuted during the 1940s along with Bugs but these shorts in the video didn't have any from the 40s.
Yosemite Sam was one of Friz Freleng's finest inventions; some people say that the dynamic little fellow was partly based on Freleng's exuberant personality, and Freleng's daughter agrees with this.
3:14 I love how uncharacteristically reserved and restrained Sam's grumbling towards the horse is. Compared to all the other interactions, he's downright gentle.
I cried laughing watching this...nice reminder of what real cartoon comedy was. The sound effects, the voice acting (one man wonder Mel Blanc). I'm still cryin' from laughing a little bit. Nice content sir.
4:36 That sympathetic tone in Bug’s voice when be says, “Here lions!” Shows how much compassion he had for those lions ( particularly when he threw those tools down for them to use), and also at the same time highlighting the fact once again that he really doesn’t give a stuff about Sam, whatsoever!! 😁👍
That is just so funny if those lions know how to use tools why aren’t they doing a successful carpentry business? Can you imagine that lions owning a successful carpentry business. That would be pretty cool and actually kind of funny. It would be a roaring success. Sorry I had to get that one out.

62 this year and I'm right there with ya, love this stuff 👍 we had the best EVERYTHING back then! TV sitcoms, Saturday morning cartoons, movies, .....music was a way of life for everyone. No cell phones, or computers, everyone knew what sex they were and I've always said of everything that's gone wrong in my life the one thing I'll always be grateful for was being born when I was!
I love how Sam's voice changes when he's beating the lion with a stick, yelling at it to shut up, but soon realizes that his goose is cooked when Bugs opens the cage door, releasing the lion thus allowing it to chase Sam.
Love the fact Yosemite Sam has five different fish names for that shark. Fin-Flappin' Flounder, Bushwhackin' Barracuda, Shark-toothed Salmon and Shovel-nosed Mackeral.
When he’s trying to run away on stilts it just kills me!!! Not to mention when he calls the shark a hammered headed halibut! I don’t care how old I get these will always be tops in entertainment. Thank you.

Ah yes, nothing like living life to its fullest.

Elephants never forget. Which was why that elephant finally wound up defecting to the other side--and was more than happy to chase Sam away with a big stick!
Yosemite Sam was far and a way my favorite Looney Tunes character, followed by Foghorn Leghorn. Those were the days back in the 60's, sitting in front of the TV on a Saturday morning watch WB cartoons all morning.
I am over 50 years old. To this day I will still watch and enjoy these cartoon characters across my television screen. Classic, very humorous, very fun
Yosemite Sam seems to always have an identity crisis where he's either a pirate a cowboy a roman legionare a knight or a spaceman or a viking just to name a few it's as if he's suffering from multiple personality disorder.
When I grew up and thought about it and realized, the humor behind the creativity, dedication, levels of talent and artistry that went into making these seemingly simple cartoons its really mind blowing. The characters, each with their own personalities, their voices, the art work, sound affects, musical score all high level genius entertainment. Priceless!!
I was born in 03 and seen this on Cartoon Network all the time, you realize a gigantic portion, hell probably all of 2000s kids who watched Cartoon Network saw this stuff right? Especially since it was on ALL THE TIME? Its just the 2010s when shit went downhill. Stop acting like it’s only kids back then who watched this lol or that kids nowadays won’t know what this is, when majority do. And majority grew up the same way you did, you aren’t special nigga.

The expressions Yosemite Sam made once the tables were turned only added to, and complemented the comedic effect. Plus, the accompanying and changing MUSIC- It ALL was Great!
Everyone knows about Mel Blanc's talents. But few remember that it was Friz Freleng who coached him in his vocal delivery, especially for his Yosemite Sam performances. Mel would read his Sam lines, and Friz would say, "No, do it again, but this time with more intensity." Mel once said that of all the directors he worked for, he hated working with Friz the most "because he made me work!" Bless you, Friz Freleng, for making Mel work, so we could enjoy some of the funniest cartoons ever made.
I like how despite how bumbling and incompetent he is, he's so angry and badass that he often puts vicious animals (like the lion/gators) in their place. XD
On top of all that, he (usually) had the Jack Benny show on Sunday night to do, so Mrs. Blanc told the kids (his son Noel confirmed this) not to disturb Dad while he recovered his voice.
There is nothing out there now, nor will there ever be, anything as funny as Warner Bros. cartoons. Those who created these masterpieces were absolute geniuses. Could you even imagine sitting around the studio and bouncing ideas off of each other?

This also happened to Sam at the end of "Hare Lift" (1952), where he jumped out of the crashing jet plane laughing his ass off until he realises that he's landing in the police car which was previously after him due to his previously attempted bank robbery at the beginning 😂😂😂😂
Grew up watching a lot of cartoons, but Looney Tunes were and still are the best cartoons ever. Still enjoy them 60 yrs later. Funniest storylines and Mel Blanc's unbelievable talent for all the voices. Pure enjoyment.

Yosemite Sam is a versatile antagonist. He has acted as a pirate, Viking, and Knight very well. But in my mind he will always be the quintessential outlaw cowboy of the Old West.

Yosemite Sam was far and a way my favorite Looney Tunes character, followed by Foghorn Leghorn. Those were the days back in the 60's, sitting in front of the TV on a Saturday morning watch WB cartoons all morning.
I am over 50 years old. To this day I will still watch and enjoy these cartoon characters across my television screen. Classic, very humorous, very fun

Yosemite Sam seems to always have an identity crisis where he's either a pirate a cowboy a roman legionare a knight or a spaceman or a viking just to name a few it's as if he's suffering from multiple personality disorder.

When I grew up and thought about it and realized, the humor behind the creativity, dedication, levels of talent and artistry that went into making these seemingly simple cartoons its really mind blowing. I was born in 03 and seen this on Cartoon Network all the time, you realize a gigantic portion, hell probably all of 2000s kids who watched Cartoon Network saw this stuff right? Everyone knows about Mel Blanc's talents. But few remember that it was Friz Freleng who coached him in his vocal delivery, especially for his Yosemite Sam performances. Mel would read his Sam lines, and Friz would say, "No, do it again, but this time with more intensity." Mel once said that of all the directors he worked for, he hated working with Friz the most "because he made me work!"
Bless you, Friz Freleng, for making Mel work, so we could enjoy some of the funniest cartoons ever made.
Odd, I heard it was Bob Clampett who really put Mel Blanc through the wringer.
I like how despite how bumbling and incompetent he is, he's so angry and badass that he often puts vicious animals (like the lion/gators) in their place. XD

@@AEMoreira81 The scratchy nature of Sam was a heavy strain on Blanc's throat, so he recorded Yosemite Sam last in a given session.
On top of all that, he (usually) had the Jack Benny show on Sunday night to do, so Mrs. Blanc told the kids (his son Noel confirmed this) not to disturb Dad while he recovered his voice.
The names Sam calls the shark every time it chases him are priceless!

Yosemite Sam is a versatile antagonist. He has acted as a pirate, Viking, and Knight very well. But in my mind he will always be the quintessential outlaw cowboy of the Old West.
