I have a group of friends where we did a budget tournament with about 8 people. We rolled for our colors and how many colors we got. I was dreading building red blue green till a found this commander. Our budget was 40 bucks so I went with cheap buff spells but this has opened my third eye and I’m excited to take some of what your deck has and turn it into my own. Xyris really has become my favorite commander.
Strangely enough, I started with a deck like this and then turned it into a buff spells spellslinger deck. Things like Zada, Bria and Balmor can really close out a game with all the cheap buffs (which also work really well with buffing Xyris on the set-up midgame turns tool), and Candlekeep Inspiration , Overwhelming Stampede and Nanogene Conversion (paired with a Lab Man once all your snakes are extra Xyrises drawing sooo many cards) are big, splashy win-con spells in their own right. Recent sets have really helped too - Bargain spells work really well (you have a steady supply of saccable tokens), gift spells are great to add to the grouphug pretense (and the "gift a card" ones really read "gift yourself another snake token"), and you have an extra couple of 'Goblin Electromancers' that came out recently too! Is it less resilient than using artifact/enchantment anthems that sit on the board through creature wipes? Sure. Would it be better to use auras or enchantments to buff Xyris if you're going a Voltron route? Definitely. Are things like Forced Fruition completely nuts in q deck geared to exploit Xyris's abilities to the max? Duh. But spellslinger just feels so much more fun to me!
I am so glad you never said the words “Craterhoof Behemoth.” I’m researching into this commander bc of SalubriousSnail’s excellent video on Xyris buff spells, which offers a low-medium power version of the commander. I plan on running my version of that deck in my pod tonight. I enjoy lower power bc I feel like it allows for a bit more personality and creative experimentation, and at the heart of things I’m looking for a laid back social game. However. The deck you have laid out here is very compelling. You aren’t just regurgitating a common goodstuff list. Also, the ending segment about budget is immensely helpful. I do have a few friends who play at higher power levels, and I kind of want to match them sometimes, so I will definitely be keeping your channel in mind when I brew on this level. Instant subscribe.
Once in a while, the algorithm _actually_ suggests good stuff. Glad I found you, sounds like someone who likes to build decks similar to mine. The idea of using a "loaded" Goblin Bombardment as instant speed player removal is... beautiful.
I'm so happy when surfing RUclips for content on a specific EDH deck tech and your videos appear in a search result because I know I can rely on your advice
Just found your channel and I really like your approach to deckbuilding, not simply dumping all the ultra high power cards in exchange for interesting and highly tailored cards. Keep up the great work man.
Thank you for the thorough deck explanation. Not only do I appreciate the thought that goes into deck crafting, but now I know exactly how to win against this deck!🤓🤓
Really great video and discussion! My Xyris deck is my favorite one to run. My flavor/spin on it is that it’s polymorph focused. It’s purposely scaled to that 7-8 range power level, but I always have difficulty in straying the line between casual and cute, and just completely one side dominating.
Not competitive, just a global ramp and wheel deck, friendly deck, i can give everybody on the table some fun(on the best case scenario they would be advancing 9 manas each turn with just their land drops, and drawing like 5 cards per turn), i still get the best of it (combining the global ramp and personal ramp based on additional lands each turn type enchantmenta as well, i can advance in the best cas scenario 28 manas each turn by dropping lands), everybody loves it, no tutors, just one counterspell that i only use for graveyard resets, no boardwipes, plain and simple, everybody runs for the win or runs for their lives ❤
I somehow missed this video of yours. I'm glad I found it now. As usual, great content, no chit chat, no time wasted, 100% informative and great speech flow. I think I found my online MTG senpai. I cannot describe how helpful your videos are to me, thank you.
I play him as buff/combat tricks. I ask my opponents, "Who wants cards?" on my turn and make deals. I do have a couple draw engines ETBs (warstorm surge, impact tremors, kyren negotiations), but its mainly instants. What's funny, the deck is unassuming and quiet, the commander has easy to understand rules on it, and it's not too big being a 3/5. By the time my friends realize I'm a problem, I can swing in for lethal commander damage or buff/tap/sacrifice my snakes.
i feel like vicious shadows would be a fun card in this deck. especially with a sac outlet and wheels already there. EDIT: saw the decklist and its in there lol my bad!
another alt wincon with this commander is running nivmiz parun, especially using curiosity. A bit win more yes, but if people know o keep your commander down, you have a secondary commander per se
Thank a lot for the video. Good job, made somme modif on my Xyris deck ahah Few point I don't understand : I see in your deck few card who give no hand limit. Is it really worth mana and time to setup them up ? After playing my deck I found some card really good with the snakes and you're not playing them. can you tell me why you choosed not to? Ogre Battledriver is a really good killer. Whelming Wave is a really good board whiper Azusa's ramp is insane to reach 5 mana or ramp after wheeling if you don't draw burgeoning Muddle the mixture can protect your commander as a counterspell and have a transmutation 3 that permit you to search the altar, beast within, jaheira, magus of wheel or beastmaster for exemple
The all star should be puzzle box, it’s a wheel at each players turn, agate investigator is the best ping on creatures entering because it’s a creature and most cedh decks don’t run as much creature interaction, plus it has offspring which makes you a second one, I also wouldn’t commit to snakes being the only win condition especially in cedh, hermit Druid to oracle is a smooth easy simple win as well, using underworld breach to reanimate the thassas oracle, there’s many more than that but that was a simple one to explain, for it to work you need to run zero basics and it mills the whole deck and you play oracle and its etb wins you the game, i play this deck in CEDH all the time and it is good but you just need to be more complex and creative and you should be able to win at the highest level

I dont play hoof in mine. But when I wheel, I win. I never get to the point where the snakes attack

Found this from a foil Blood Artist I ordered.
Thanks, and good video.
I appreciate it! Another video going live this Wednesday.
Great content you have going here! Subbed for the future for sure
Earthcraft would be another awesome upgrade for the deck.

i was wondering now that its been some time what are your thoughts on this deck now and what changes would you make?
I play him as buff/combat tricks. I ask my opponents, "Who wants cards?" on my turn and make deals. How do you feel about replacing Witty Roastmaster with the new Agate Instigator?
Can i have the decklist the link isnt working

Ogre Battledriver is a really good killer.
Whelming Wave is a really good board whiper
Azusa's ramp is insane to reach 5 mana or ramp after wheeling if you don't draw burgeoning
Muddle the mixture can protect your commander as a counterspell and have a transmutation 3 that permit you to search the altar, beast within, jaheira, magus of wheel or beastmaster for exemple
Muddle the mixture searches for a card with cmc2. It has to be the same mana cost. Not the cost of the transmute.
Which Car would you Cut for Wheel of Fortune?
Why no altar of the Brood?
They can't have answers if they have no cards.
If you're putting 80+ snakes on a board and can't convert that into a combat victory then something went very very wrong earlier in your game
Do you play parallel lives, doubling season or primal vigor?
Better to just double the card draw, which is always effective rather than only effective when your boy is on the field
Really interesting temur commander, what do you think about Pako and Haldan? 🐕
Pako is the best boy and Haldan is the uncle I never had. I love them! 😁
