    Commanders that make "bad cards" playable are some of the most interesting things in the format and what makes it so special

  • @GallantLee
    @GallantLee 11 месяцев назад +20

    Because you are not enchanting opponent's creatures, Robe of Stars is a good option. You do need to hold up mana, but you are running pretty low CMC. It means Eriette will always be available on your turn, allowing you to at least untap to protect her further.

    I prefer Glistening Oil over Phyresis. It acts as a 2 Mana kill spell for your opponents low toughness creatures, but it also drags their big creatures down too. Plus, it returns to your hand upon death, so you don't have to fumble around trying to recur it

    • @nanoglitch6693

      I agree. I suspect the only reason he chose Phyresis was to abide by his self-imposed "no double-pips" rule.

Might I suggest that with all of those pips (hopefully) just handing out on the board, you in Nykthos, Shine to Nix? That is a lot of mana with which to utilize your enchantress card draw and Giant Laserbeam. Also, I changed my Ajani's Chosen for the Hallowed Haunting enchantment. My 2c you did not ask for, you did inspire me to share. Have a good one!

    I know you wont add it, but for my playgroup and a card I absolutely love and people underestimate is "Screams from Within" -1/-1 enchanted creature, and recurs when enchanted creature dies to another target. It's like a plague that kills all tokens.

    Very nice idea for a deck. I'm worried the protection might not be enough. Especially with so many exile effects going around. I would try to add more protection and a few sac outlets to sac eriette in response to an exile effect so that she can come back using one of our protection spells.

    Always interesting to watch your videos after I've constructed a deck -- We think along very similar lines when building, where occasionally you'll throw something in I hadn't considered that helps to improve mine. I had cut Light-Paws from my deck, with the thought that I want to be enchanting my opponent's creatures as my focus rather than my own. But you make a good argument for getting value engine Auras out consistently to improve our card draw. Think I'll add it back in to mine. We had the same thoughts on cards like Phyrexian Arena or the replacement effect Auras, but I hadn't considered Phyresis -- I do think that particular option is pod dependent, as my pods tend to run wide strats or combo making Phyresis a dead card most of the time. But I can see it working out very well in the right pod. Thanks for a concise, well made tech video, as always!

    You've got a subscribe from me - I also have an Eriette deck which came out low to the ground and similar to yours. While I have a few more pillowfort cards in mine, and in particular several of the Aura curses for players, you also raise some great points here. I'll be coming back to this deck once I get some games in with pods, and see if I need to make some changes. Keep up the great work!

    I would put back sphere of safety. Remember that if they get rid of her all of the buffs you have to enemies will come back to haunt you. My deck only runs about 4 creatures. My auras mostly either return from the gy or can be cast from the gy. Also Hall of Heliod helps. Careful with the infect, one wrong move and you're dead. Also instead of the rat enchantment that draws you a card, there is an aura that does it on a land of that's the way you wanna go. Sun titan is nice but attacking people will make enemies you might not want. Also since you are making their creatures bigger and also they have auras, if you attack they might block just to get rid of an aura.
    Also, spellbook vendor is a nice creature that makes Sorcerer Role tokens for 1.

  • @charlieblocher7456
    @charlieblocher7456 11 месяцев назад +1

    I have some questions about your choices for this deck list.
    First, you said that you removed Smothering Tithe because the deck didn't need the ramp or consistency, but then say you avoided 2-pip spells for ramp and consistency. Doesn't that seem contradictory? In a two-color deck, there are enough affordable dual lands that there shouldn't be too many problems casting two-pip spells.
    Second, why would we avoid Goad enchantments if Eriette's a target? If a creature is Goaded, then it can't attack you unless it's down to 1v1, commander or no commander. It's a decent way to protect yourself against Voltron decks. Dropping Swiftfoot Boots for Lightning Greaves is also an odd choice - you can't Flash in Minion's Return or Timely Ward on Eriette if she has Lightning Greaves equipped.
    Third, this isn't a question, but keeping Sigarda's Aid out robs you of a great deal of flexibility. Waiting until the end of your opponent's turn to cast your enchantments might slow down the damage you deal by a few points, but it is a huge game changer, especically with Eriette's effects and any Goad enchantments you do have. Did an opponent drop some hasty monster, or play a Rogue's Passage? With Sigarda's Aid, you can flash in an auras before combat starts to prevent creatures from attacking you, or flash in the various debuff enchantments that can make threats less relevent.
    There are some cards that seems like they'd be great fits.
    * Lurrus seems like a great fit, alongside Sun Titan and Guardian Scale Lord. This cat can let you recur any 1-or-2 mana cost card once per turn, which is great for this deck's low CMC Auras.
    * Similarly, I'm wondering what you think of including some sacrifice options for your enchantments, like Braids, Arisen Nightmare or Faith Healer. Given the lower number of enchantments that see play, compared or creatures or artifacts, Braids can give us card advantage and hurt our opponents by sacrificing our lower-cost enchantments, while Faith Healer can give us a bit of life and an emergency escape hatch if Eriette is killed and someone swings at us with our own Angelic Destiny or All that Glitters.
    * Open the Armory seems like a great card for this deck - it's a 1W Sorcery that lets you tutor for an Aura or Equipment.
    * I'm also curious what you think of Eidolon of Countless Battles. Most Bestow creatures are too expensive when you try to use them as enchantments, but the Eidolon isn't too expensive to cast on other creatures (2WW) and has the flexibility of being cast as a creature.

    I ended up on a very similar list too and I've been goldfishing the deck, and it works nicely enough.
    But I've been thinking that maybe cutting some of the worse enchantments, adding in a lil bit more removal and swapping the commander to killian (with a more voltron gameplan) may be a better deck.
    I really like Eriette! But rn it really feels like jumping through a lot of loops to do just what another card in the 99 does better. I'll keep on testing to see which version I end up liking more (especially on the flavour side), but I wondered if anyone else felt the same way

    • @Tempest-Official
      @Tempest-Official  11 месяцев назад +1

      Ya. My battle feels a bit the same. Although she is really sweet and flavor wise is just *chefs kiss* I have the issue of getting as consistent as possible. After all, we don't get all the time in the world to play paper magic, so you want to make sure the deck works.
      If you get any further insights I'd be interested to hear!

    • @LTJ
      @LTJ 11 месяцев назад +1

      I have built both Killian and Eriette.
      I much prefer Eriette as a Commander, and her style as a deck. Killian is in the 99 and does a great job when I have got him out.
      I have played both decks multiple times (Killian was couple of years ago) and only one deck got complimented on as having a great playstyle and cool commander.
      It wasnt Killian.
      I took Killian apart as he just couldnt do what I wanted him to do with any sort of consistency (as I refused to play him as a Voltron commander due to already having one) and the games just generally ended up feeling bad.
      Eriette however, delivers on multiple fronts. She is consistent and ALWAYS influences a game, has an alternative way to winning to combat and has actually got proactive pillowfort. She actually wins a solid 25% as well.
      I run creature auras for my opponents stuff (buffing AND removal) and a package of Curses which gives Eriette a number of lines to play as well, so games are usually complex (do I buff this creature and encourage them to attack others, or shall I just disable/remove instead - or do I gamble and slap a Curse on them instead?)
      Multiple lines and choices to make each time I play her.
      I love playing her and think that she is a fantastic commander for a very niche playstyle.

      @@LTJ which curses do you run?

    • @LTJ
      @LTJ 11 месяцев назад

      @@joepbeentjes2423
      1.My favourite curse of all: Overwhelming Splendour (i know its clunky and prohibitively costed but it can be literally game winning - especially when you cast it with Ondu Spiritdancer and get TWO of them.
      2. Curse of misfortunes
      3. Curse of Exhaustion
      4. Trespassers Curse.
      I used to run more (as I had every single Curse as I had a 5C Enchantress deck that was built around them) but have switched them out for other Auras as I use these Curses as disruptors, and dont pile them all onto one person (which is the normal way to use Curses)
      For example, in my last game I shut down the go wide deck with Splendour, dramatically slowed down the Storm deck with Exhaustion, and made the Enchantress deck question their existence with Fools Wisdom.
      Again, I use them as disruptors and can force opponents to use removal on these cards, and leave themselves open to the game winning cards in your deck.

    Hey brother, great video! Really liking this version and was able to inspire a lot of my list off of the arguments you make in this one, great work! I will say I found about 4 more auras that will cantrip or cycle themselves. Do you think its worth it to play all 8? Seems like such a good engine for our deck to be playing all of them, but curious on your thoughts. The cards I found are: Chosen by Heliod, Pentarch Ward, Rune of Sustenance, Scourgemark, and Unquestioned Authority. Chosen by Heliod and Scourgemark are the obvious worst ones here, and I think Rune of Sustenance is pretty sweet with that nice lifegain payoff we have in the deck as well!

      I totally agree. That was actually in my initial list. I have used it before, but found that (at least for my playgroups). People realize that the extra card they will be getting is inferior to ME drawing cards. For that reason I left it out of my list, but I do like me a game of politics!

    • @Tempest-Official
      @Tempest-Official  11 месяцев назад

      Yes I did. This particular card was a coin flip for me. It only triggers at the beginning of our combat, and also it was making a sorcerer role that we cannot attach to our opponents creature. Which means we NEED to have a viable creature to target. I think if it made a ROYAL role, it would have been much, much closer for me. I think it's still a good include however. Having a body which can also make a role can be a big deal in certain cases, and you can of course argue that the sorcerer role DOES smooth out your draw. Maybe you'll get me to fully come around on it. ;)

      Hateful eidolon is in this deck, and I considered Ashioks Reaper but felt that the 4 cmc to cast it was too hefty when we have other cheaper effects and more efficient forms of card draw.
      Plus the reaper takes another slot for a potential aura.
      I think it can ABSOLUTELY be included if you wanted another draw piece however. It's certainly a good card.

    I appreciate you doing all of this research! Im really liking the direction of this build.
    If you were budgetless, or wanted to make it more powerful, is there anything you would do to it? (Put in infinites, tutors, better lands, etc.)

    • @Tempest-Official
      @Tempest-Official  11 месяцев назад +4

      Yes, of course.
      First, adding in most of the black tutors and enlightened tutor would be key.
      I would also max out the mana base with fetches and godless shrine.
      I'd make sure to add Replenish into the list.
      And if you are looking to TRY and play this at a more competitive table, you probably are building heavier Stax, so including cards like Grand Abolisher/Drannith Magistrate/Silence, etc. Could all be good includes.
      Even though I maximized consistency, I view this deck mostly as a fun build that occasionally is going to do some really crazy stuff. I would keep that in mind if you are looking to build competitive. I would put your dollars toward a different commander if you are going to be in a high level playgroup. I hope this helps! - Kyle

    Eh...she dies to removal which in turn destroys all the auras on her or whatever creature you put pants onto. I have tried several different builds with her and she is a bit lack luster imo. Even putting every indestructible aura in the deck, people always seem to find a way to kill her. And if you put auras on your opponents' stuff, they can just sacrifice the creature or kill her so they can attack you. I found using both protection auras and Pacify + goad auras seem to work best. You will literally have to play every enchantment recur you can find cause those auras will most certainly die.

    I like a lot this commander too..I think u are low on protection for Eriette and too manu Auras. All those auras on opponents creatures (to gain the commander´s value) are dangerous without the commander. I think is better to have more protection to the commander. Teferis Pro is good but cuts the triggered efects of auras attached to opponents creatures.
