Stonnie Dennis we went looking for a Labrador for our veterans service dogs program. We found a GB Lab (Black) who is terrified of his own shadow and everything else. Couldn't leave it behind, would you be interested in helping out?
Ive been on a binge watching your videos today. One thing that i can say i learned for sure, is that i still have yet to see a video without a stick in a labs mouth. Lol It started out by the 3 video or so i noticed, and then became a game for me, how many labs with sticks in their mouth hehe
3:02 My human ears instinctively perked up when I heard this statement. I’m a humble Primary Montessori Directress from NC. Learning through play and peacefully introducing lessons is an awesome way to educate both humans and animals! I wish you continued success!
As a relatively recent former Stone online client (for a field bred lab-class in 2020) and a longtime and current Doberman owner, I just want to say that I hope people can appreciate how effective Stonnie's methods are across breed and temperament type. Dobermans and labs are very different temperaments/personalities, generally speaking at least, and Stone's methods work across the board. We took the online class to train our field lab for duck hunting, and yet the methods were also extremely effective for the two dogs we've gotten in addition- a mastiff mutt and a doberman. I just wanted to chime in for people to see how effective the method is across the board. And also because I know that Stonnie rarely features Dobes, so I'm super glad to see another one there. :)
I agree, they couldn't be more different! Dobies are velcro dogs, she wants nothing more than to be right beside him! Over 3 generations we have had 9 Dobies, starting with one being dumped in my parents mountain community. We were immediately sold! We are looking for our second service dog, our last one died last year, she was 14.
Man she's a tall dobie! Beautiful. Also, how well mannered were the sitting labs at the start of the video! I didn't even notice them all sitting there until Stonnie called them to get up!
We have just had our dream puppy a month now...13 week BLACK LAB, half English, half American, 20# female named Millie. Having a ball, hiking the great outdoors in the mountains near Yosemite.
Totally amazing to watch Aria become more and more comfortable and really start enjoying herself. I love the way you work with the dogs! Her happiness toward the end of the video was so apparent!
So many good analogies! I tell my clients all the time giving feedback instantly works both ways. It’s a whole lot different experience when the dog hears more ‘good dog’ than ‘ no’ and getting corrected all the time. Catch your dog doing something right even if it’s just laying quietly and patiently while you are watching the TV. ❤
Great approach to training, especially with turning it all into a game and making it fun. This is so important when training dogs especially Dobermans.
Thank you for showing the world how compassion and understanding are essential aspects of training incredible dogs. Of all my canine companions, I found that Doberman's were among the most sensitive and required the most attention from their human companions.
Can’t help but share, my lab (2 y.o.) was hilariously engaged with this video when I played it on my living room TV 😂 She doesn’t do that often with the TV but this video’s point of view was unusually dog-friendly 😂👏🏼
Love your approach Stonnie, particularly the inverse relationship between fidgets and the notion that exercise and the need to instill the sense that obedience leads to freedom.
Just found your channel and subscribed. Funny you're right outside of Winchester, I used to spend a ton of time in the Gorge. I'm in CO now but I'm bringing my hound to you next time we come to visit the area!
This begs the question, what happens when she returns to Philly? I’m in complete agreement with your philosophy and method but it’s the owners who really need training. My Kortholtz griffon is a prime example. The former owner sent it to “school “ and never changed his own behavior or the dog’s environment. I now have the pleasure of a well behaved and truly brilliant dog. Thanks for your great videos. PS , you have a very broad vocabulary!!!
Stonnie: I have a request. We regularly see some of the black labs, like No Name, Henry, etc. I know you have the new one, but I forget the name right now. However, you have so many that we see sometimes, but haven't met. How about doing a video introducing the whole pack of mentor dogs?
You see so many people getting these breeds they can't or won't exercise. It's a shame. Got a guy down the street with a beautiful shepherd that almost never gets to leave the yard. When it does, it comes down and barks at me. He's not really overtly aggressive, he just hasn't been socialized.
Beautiful labs...look like English Labs. I raised 3 lab pups for a guide dog foundation. I ended up adopting two when they were dropped from training. A small yellow english female. and a American style black lab. I also had a Jack Russell Parson's terrier for 16 years....my favorite dog ever. He didnt really like other dogs much...he either wanted to fight them or hump them. I noticed your Jack kind of didnt know how to interact with the other bigger dogs and kept to herself.
This is exactly how Terra behaves in new situations, especially around new people! Very interesting and useful perspective on the matter, as always. Thank you!
Stonnie how do I get my 10 month lab to stop jumping on people? He is very attentive and respectful most of the time but first contact with someone excites him so much all training goes out the window, and worst part is people *always* encourage jumping and reward jumping with petting and attention, and when I try to contain him to all four paws they say "it's ok" ... no it's not! lol
My Doberman gets a dose of Belgian Malinois training every day with his little sister Eva. And vis versa. Works out well. The Doberman and the Malinois are a perfect mix for the most insane of owners.
Stoney i have been following your training and continue to learn Thank You I see alot of videos with people using clickers This do t seem necessary if your dog is exercised and provided with food rations
I think a clicker is a great way to refine and mark a behavior. It gives a dog a unique sound or que to exact action they perform. Once they associate that sound with an action. That sound can then become a command. I think ultimately it's an emotionless communication device. That's why I like a dog whistle. Just my two cents
Hey Stonnie, quick question. I want your opinion on this. I have a male black lab who is about 1.5 years of age. He is in need of a play friend and my girlfriend I live with her brother just had doberman puppies and we are considering one. Do these 2 casually get along? Do you recommend it? I want to make the right choice for my dog arlo so he can have fun with the other. I just to make the right choice before i get another furry friend to add to our household. Hoping to hear back from you thank you!
So I'm not the only one who has noticed what people called a "robot"? I've gotten messages from this being claiming Stonnie has responded to my comment...In fact, maybe I'll get another one now! Has Stonnie been been hacked?
Don't bring her in until she pees and then praise the hell out of her, also have some high value food like chicken to give her for a reward. That worked for my puppy. I'm not sure it was the best solution but it worked and i'm trying to learn more
One thing that really makes me shake my head is people seeking to own breeds of dog that just do not fit their lifestyle. This is why dogs misbehave, are undisciplined, and have behavioral issues. For example, Dobermans are a high energy breed. They are not meant to be kept indoors all the time bumming on the couch. They need exercise outside of the house. Running and being out where they can get rid of that energy. True, you can teach them how to manage that energy in the environment they live in. But, for their piece of mind, giving them the stimulation they need can work miracles.
Hey Stonnie 👋 with your video the other day, I noticed what appeared to be a robot It was replying to many of the comments, and it had your pictures for its thumbnail Did you notice it too??
Please tell me my name is Tom schroeder I live in Phoenix Arizona and I have a small lab she weighs 60 pounds and she's going on 5 and we can't keep her from counter surfing I'm a disabled veteran and I can't walk do you have any suggestions for my wife and son I mean she's looking for anything and we can't even though we say no she's still aggressive anything would help appreciate your time and God-bless you sir thank you

The dogs said you can definitely use a doberman dna to create a great hunting dog
Stonnie your ability to empathize with the individual dog, instead of just try to force it into a cookie cutter training program, is a sight to see.

I love the small white one being steady and calm despite being surrounded by giants fullfill of energy.
the mighty jack russell is the smartest dog there

When a Doberman finds a good person, they love them. You’re a good person and that’s a good Doberman!

What an excellent episode , thanks again Stonnie !
I’m glad you liked it!
Super, balanced, compassionate training approach! Love it!
Great video! Looking forward to see more of Aria's progress!
We have had two Dobies and two Labs, both great breeds ❤ love how you approach the training.
I just love “oh my gosh” in the squeaky voice. 🥰
"Reacting to incentives in the environment." I love that description. Thanks Stonnie:)
Great approach to training, especially with turning it all into a game and making it fun. This is so important when training dogs especially Dobermans.
That Missouri rule, can't tell em with words, gotta show them instead LOL made my day
Black Lab therapy plus a little Jack Russell. Thanks I needed that!
Thank you for showing the world how compassion and understanding are essential aspects of training incredible dogs. Of all my canine companions, I found that Doberman's were among the most sensitive and required the most attention from their human companions.
Great video into the psychology and positive training 🤘🏻
Life goals right here! I got one black lab and now I want more. Labs are the best therapy!!!!!
Very therapeutic they certainly are
Really love your training style and I try to incorporate it into my daily activity with my dog. Thanks for all the helpful tips
Happy to see this video back. And happy to see a doberman. My fave dog. I can't wait to see her progress and improve.
Thanks Stonnie. I always enjoy your content!
I appreciate that!
@@StonnieDennis did we just see a doberman trying to hunt geese he has the gene to create a hunting dog
@@StonnieDennis the doberman is the one that has 100percent more hunting instinct than the other dogs we are finding something here

Thank you for taking the time to post this
You are a awesome trainer! We all need to learn life's lessons. Love how you entertain your dogs first before you train!
For a dog “obedience leads to freedom. Obedience leads to fun.” Exactly!
That Dobie is gonna thrive! Very smart dog in a tremendous learning environment = success
Aria's gonna need a few more inches worth of tail to attain black lab status. She's a purdy one, full of life.
Ha!
I really enjoy the clips you're making on specific dog breeds. I'd really like to watch & hear your views & tips on all kinds of big dog breeds.
I swear, youre the only (online) dog trainer who hasn't lost their damn mind in the last two weeks, great video as always!
Stonnie!! This is one of your best videos. Great message and summary of your philosophy of training too.
First video ever watched mad respect for the way you treat dogs
What a gorgeous dog
Great work as always. Always watch ur new vids before bed find them relaxing much love!
Love your approach Stonnie, particularly the inverse relationship between fidgets and the notion that exercise and the need to instill the sense that obedience leads to freedom.
Can't believe I'm responding for the third time. Hopefully final :) . Great content Uncle Stonnie. Keep at it! Always look forward to your next video.
Trouble comes in threes, so hopefully I’m done for the night!
I love your attitude towards dogs !
Uncle Stonnie is great ! ❤DQ.
You are too kind!
You sure are a fun guy!

A life of quiet desperation - boy, did you nail that
I have a doberman and liked your point of views. Subscribed! I look forward to how you work with her.

Dobie staying close to you the whole time.....guarding genetics.
Any dog bred to work close to a handler checks in often. This dog probably lacks confidence to wander away from the handler to unknowns.
I have a soft spot for dobermans.
