There's actually a story "Nightwing Year One" that's about what Dick goes off and does in the middle of The Judas Contract. That's where he learns Superman's Nightwing story. Pretty good book actually

I love the Teen Titans cartoon. It is funny that they can't use Deathstroke's name but they can use Killer Moth's name. But I kind of prefer Slade; Deathstoke the Terminator is very 80s and kind of upfront scary, while Slade seems more covertly ominous It's also funny that Robin is so obsessed with finding out Slade's real name when he is actually using his real name.
Ron Perlman will always be Deathstroke/Slade to me

ok but I feel like having ur alias being just ur first name is kinda cringy, that always bothered me about the show, deathstroke to me seems like a solid name, I think by itself it dosnt sound dated

The rant about beast boys shapeshifting reminds me why I love Ethan.
A lot of the reasons Wolfman goes out of their way to make Terra evil and unredeemable is because he was annoyed at the fans loving her and trying to come up with excuses for her.
In the teen titans series when they visit starfires home planet beast boy realises he can shapeshirft into an alien monster aswell. Idk about shifting into people or mass differences like a giant spider?

Honestly the show and the comic are like apples and oranges. The characters are the same but theyre put into different situations. I grew up with the tv show and loved it, but I'm also reading the reprints and theyre incredible as well even though the tones are different.
In case you missed it Sal, Gerard Way(Who was lead Singer of My Chemical Romance) is writing a new DC book that will feature the Doom Patrol.

This is by far the funniest video you guys have made. I love it. Terra being a huge psycho bitch is such a massive difference from the cartoon, where she was just a misunderstood and manipulated girl who redeems herself. Kind of puts things into perspective.
I love the close ups you edit into the shows. They are really well timed and sometimes makes the jokes even funnier and more memorable. Good stuff.

Teen titans made me love beast boy, the DC universe and the characters on the team and the episode where beast boy references don’t patrol is one of the main reasons I watched the show which was dope
The New Teen Titans was my favorite comic book from the eighties with Cyborg and Raven being my favorite members.
Cheshire was my favorite Titans villain but she wasn't in the Judas Contract but she should have been. I view Raven as kind of like Spock because she could never show emotion lest she lose control of her inner demon.
I cherish this era but doubt anyone will ever be able to recreate the amazing first run of the New Teen Titans like Marv and Geaorge did.
Honestly, I find the teen Titans animated series to be one of the most beloved series while also being underrated. To this day it’s one of the reasons I love beast boy and all the other titans. Dc as a whole. It actually had humor while also getting serious. Each season focused on a character’s development and even though they changed deathstroke’s name, Slade was just a lot cooler Imo. His character struck so much fear into me. He provided actual stakes. I loved the anime inspiration and the theme song. Even the movie was great.. but that FINALe. What in the cliffhanger
Awesome! I asked about 3 weeks ago if you planned on doing this story. Thanks for delivering! It's my favorite Titans storyline, and one of my favorite ever DC storylines overall.
I'm sorry, but - no. The Judas Contract is the greatest DC story ever told - EVER!! No. I honestly used to think that, and still do to a certain extent, but after quite a few rereads over the decades, I realized it's just of the times and WAS good for THAT time. The Deathstroke/Terra relationship was controversial then, and still remains. Her mental illness was also palpable enough to remain relevant. All in all, I think it remains part of the greatest in DC story arcs - over the top/ controversial/corny or not. :)
It really isn't a great introduction to nightwing though

Narraton boxes are a thing back then I wonder when they stop and changed first person narration, probably late 90s. By the way it's not sound impressive when you didn't know backstory but if you start from first issue you realise how awesome the build up is and you can understand why titans not belive her betrayal. Terra helped them in some fights and team started to accept her a member. And not question her motivation, she is kind of a Joker type villian, not really need motivation, she is just a sociopath.
Exactly. I love comic pop but I know that Sal definitely leaves alot of stuff out of stories to make them seem alot worse than they are. And I thought the same thing about Joker. I'm not saying Terra is a Joker-level villain but they were so quick to say she was lame because she didn't have a real reason for how she was. Meanwhile, the whole point of Joker is that he's just chaos for chaos' sake and they've literally never given any explanation for it. But hey, he's a Batman villain so ppl aren't allowed to point out negative things about Batman lol.

ComicPOP oh don't get me wrong. I said this in another comment for this video. You are perfectly entitled to your opinion. Yes I disagree with you alot but that's the beauty of comics. There are literally thousands of characters to choose from and everyone is gonna hate and love different characters. I just notice that on certain stories you don't like, you have left out a few crucial elements. Like with Terra, she wasn't a bitch all the time prior to this story. She helped the Titans and earned their trust because they did like her. Or with the Dark Phoenix Saga, the retcon when Phoenix wasn't really Jean hadn't happened yet so the X-men truly believed they were fighting for Jean. So I know this has been long so sorry but I love the videos where you talk about the stories you actually do love. You explain all the great parts and the dumb parts and you do it out of love for the comic. I just feel that on stories you don't like (and trust me, I know there are plenty of stories that are just stupid all around) it would just be cool to see you be as in depth as the stories you do like just to get the story in the right context. Anyway, I'm still gonna watch and be a fan. I never mean any disrespect in my comments. I think Tiffany might ve thought that in my other comments so I apologize to her and you and anyone else if you think I'm a hater. I'm not. I'm just giving my constructive criticism imo. Let's face it. I'm a huge fan of the Inhumans, Vision, Scarlet Witch, the X-men, and Hawkeye so if I'm still around after all the hate you've thrown at those characters, I'm not really offended lol. I was hoping for the Runaways when Sal hinted at a team book but this was still a great back issues as always. One of my new favs!
Ethan and Ben MUST watch the animated Teen Titans show! It's great and does a much better job with this story arc and makes Terra a tragic character. Btw the 80s Teen Titans is the best version of Teen Titans in comics I've read mainly down to the character interactions.
Oh and Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol is AMAZING, you guys gotta do that one at some point.

Even to this day, I hold a special place in my geekery for all the members of this team so I just didn't care much for the cartoon versions

People remember Judas Contract not because of the comic but the the show which I think handled it better but that is because the show came out later and had time to learn from the past. A lot of good comic at there time have a bad issue with dating themself these is one that shows it a little more than others.
Judas Contract was hailed as one of the beat stories in comics before the Teen Titans cartoon. I agree that the show did a great job with it, though.

Eh, lots of people make fun of Superman's disguise, but there's one thing people forget: unlike Batman, he makes no attempt to hide his face or anything. Nobody knows there's even a secret identity for him to hide.
Besides that, Clark slouches, wears slightly baggy suits, raises his voice a few octaves, and uses the glasses to dull his eye color. Besides that, who would think that clumsy, small town Clark is an alien who can lift a building?

That's what pissed me off about the Judas Contract movie. Beast Boy gives this eulogy talking about her as if she had some big redemption and she doesn't there's nothing redeeming about her in the story or in that movie and it's frustrating that they end and the movie makes tries to give you the impression that she died a hero or that she was worth anything when she wasn't and the only time I've seen to where she doesn't suck is a little bit in the Teen Titans cartoon and Young Justice to where it's her brother who's the a-hole and not her
The rest of the run is really good and way better as you read it all

I have quite the burning questions how has no one figured out Batman's identity?!? it even took the riddler drugs for him to fit the puzzle together
This might be late, but Raven doesn’t just sense evil, she is an empath. She can sense other people’s pain, joy and all the other feelings.
And the real reason Raven did not expose Terra is because Raven is struggling with the evil within herself being Trigon’s daughter. So, she is not sure if the evil is within herself or Terra. So, she did not want to make any accusations without certainty.
And after all the school shootings we have over the years, Terra’s hatred of the Titans is more realistic than ever people. Some are rejected and angry while others are jealous of others who are successful or beautiful or whatever. There is logic to some evil even if they are illogical looking from the outside. How do you explain a teenager shooting kids or total strangers?
Sal seems to know a bit about the book, but some mistakes or misrepresentations or disregard for the facts to be funny like his friends.
But I don’t like the snarky comments; it’s like people who thinks they are too cool for comics. Are the comics perfect? No, they are not like the MCU movies where there is a team of writers and have months to develop a story. Marv Wolfman and George Perez do a monthly comic month after month for years. What is a budget for an issue of comics? For you guys to make funny comments is disrespectful to these creators who have entertained hundreds and thousands of people.
And to identify Starfire for her relationship to Robin dismisses everything else she is. 😢😢😢😢

Cool show as always. It was a comic of it's time. My fav Titans was their cross over with the JLA. But, Tara did return...sort of as a member of the titans, Along with Damage. Think it was her from another earth. I.e. Earth 1. Earth 2. Earth 3. Any way she acted as she did since Marv had a problem with Shadow Cat and this was his making fun of that character. So that it makes no since is ok with me since I'm a fan of Shadow cat from her in the early X-Men and in Excalibur.
