wow thank you Pastor for the recommendation of the book The Confessions of St. Augustine. I just downloaded a pdf and I was blown away, been searching for a great book about who God is, but the way Augustine portray God is just wow! We still need his writing today.

Two more by Dostoyevsky that I would suggest as a Christian would be The Brothers Karamazov, and Demons (or The Devils, or The Possessed depending on the translation). They show what a difference a persons life path can be when you walk with God, or without. Those books will stay with you forever, and really show the importance of having God in your life.

I read often but not as much as I would like to.
Outside of scripture I read a lot of Platt, Chan, and Piper for Christian living. I read C.S. Lewis, Lee Strobel, Josh McDowell and Ravi for apologetics.
    Any good Theology books?

Correct. Outside of scripture.God has given people like Washer, Piper, MacCarthur , Platt etc gifts to help the body dig deeper into scripture. If you are suggesting that we should only read scripture then why go to church? Pastors (if done corectaly) exposite scripture. They help you dig deeper into scripture. Its the same thing as reading a book.

When people read the Bible only they'll have their own ideas of what the passages mean or remain with them. You cannot dialogue with such people, they are not open. Yes, the Spirit teaches us, but in different ways, mostly using others. Jesus modelled church attendance by going to the synagogues. We are to listen to sound and serious teaching, to others. We are helped by others who God sends our way. Otherwise the eunuch wouldn't need God intervening and sending Philip to help him out. Writings help much too.
But I would rarely go for new books. I go to the old ones, to reformers and Puritans and pick writings that are Christ-centred.

If we all read the Bible alone, we would each find our own way to hell.

I find it very interesting that the The End for Which God Created the World doesn't make the list, especially considering that pastor John Piper has said that outside the Bible it has probably been the most influential book he has ever read. I wonder which other book he has forgotten 🤔 lol
