I have noticed the principle is similar to speckled trout. Many fish you just don't want to hook it like swinging a baseball bat. There are some exceptions but, that's like fish similar to alligator gar & tarpon due to their mouths being very boney.
i’ve learned to hook carefully and reel down fishing bowfin waters live nerve ending the hook set makes you snap off in the event of a bowfin or pickerel hell even flounders
Thank you for an excellent presentation. I’m unable to fish with a bait caster for lighter baits. I believe I understand why I lost two nice bass at my tournament last Saturday with my spinning outfit.
Thanks Randy, I have lost too many fish on my spinning rods because of setting the hooks wrong. Just last week I couldn't figure out why I couldn't pin the bass on my ned rigs or worms that I normally don't have a problem with on my bait casters. I was using a 2lb to 4lb line that is extremely strong that I have caught up to a 7lb largemouth with, but I guess the stretch in that line didn't allow me to just hit back and then start reeling on it, I needed it to be one motion and I just needed to be more patient.
As a boomer i fish most of the time with a spinning reel on light weight line , 12lb or less, and i catch some big bass with it. Personal pb is 10lb14oz with a bunch of eights and nines thrown in all with a finesse wacky worm. Light 1/0 hooks. Hook set is just like your said and a taut line before snap hook set. The sharpness of the hook is super important along with being patient in reeling the fish in.
nah he’s definitely not he’s just taking a softer approach listen to the message he’s clearly against it anyone that compares ffs to redneck blinds and setting corn to hunt deer and having to reteach his sons to hunt properly is not “for FFS” be serious 😂
was practicin for my saturday club tourney, was twitching a jerkbait while just zoning out to the beauty of the scenery& a smallmouth hit& jumped throwing the hook- I realized I hadnt even set it since i wasnt paying attention.
I have some custom LEE SISSON RODS I need to sell. Lee is a old time bass pro bery well known also for revolutionizing the crank bait. He's known as king of the crank baits and balsa! Anyone intereste
A lot of times I will reel in a crank or two right before setting the hook. Usually plastic worm, Senko, lizard, jig, etc. They kind of hook themselves on crankbaits or when trolling. Just my 2 cents.
Good demonstration. I actually try to remember you demo when I set the hook.
As always, thanks for the fishing tip!
Good stuff, Randy. thanks.
Great, helpful details. Can't recall any other channel digging this deep on a hookset with spinning tackle.
I'm gonna try that reeling faster instead of snap jerking.
Thanks for the info Randy. Would love to get your thoughts on how to set the drag on baitcast and spinning reels

Looks like Hank Parker came out for FFS. Can you be humble for once and do a follow-up video on this?
When he said “I fish for Humminbird” at 2:20 we all knew what was coming next. It’s called damage control.

Thank you Randy Ive definitely ripped some lips
I slack line'em, like the Gman!
@@anonymouscalinewhat’s your credentials? I doubt you’re getting paid to fish. So there’s that….gman has actually won tournaments.
