    Thank you for posting this! Super easy on my 2009 Sonata after watching this video. A couple of things I recommend for others: 1) Disconnect battery (in my case, because the switch was so bad I could no longer put it in "On" without starting the engine, plus it's just safer) and 2) disconnect the wiring harness before loosening the screw to make it easier to pull off and also for easier access to the screw. Thanks again for the video!

      What if it’s locked and won’t turn at all? That is the problem I’m having, will disconnecting the battery cable still help with that issue?

    Hello, I have a 07 sonata and my steering wheel is locked and the key will not turn in the ignition at all, I’ve tried simultaneously turning the wheel and key at the same time to unlock the wheel and start the car but i cannot, I’ve proceeded to just replacing the ignition switch etc however I cannot get the key in the ON position. Please help !!!

    • @EdDoesTechEd
      @EdDoesTechEd  3 года назад +1

      Dang, that sounds like a steering column issue. When that is malfunctioning, you must try your best to move the steering wheel left or right, even a millimeter to loosen up the ignition switch enough for you to turn it with the key in it.
      I would suggest you doing more research, as I did, and found up three main causes.
      "While there are a variety of reasons your Hyundai Sonata key won't turn, the most common 3 are a binding steering column/lock, an ignition switch issue, or a problem with the ignition key." - repairpal.com
      The best of luck to you!

    Thanks for video I may need to change mine on my 2007 sonata no start no sound. Did you have to use a memory saver to keep ECU from needing reprogrammed?

    • @EdDoesTechEd
      @EdDoesTechEd  4 года назад

      Hi Don Jr Kocielko,
      Are you getting any lights at all when the keys turn? It's been almost a week since you coming at so hopefully you got it up and running. I did not go that far to use a memory saver, I didn't think changing the ignition switch would affect it that much. Maybe I should look into that next time, just to be safe.
      Thank you for your contribution.

      That would have something to do with the steering wheel/column (I believe). Once you turn it in a certain angle (left or right) and hold it, it will break/loosen the wheel lock enabling you to to turn.

    Hi. Good video. I'm wondering what the car was doing that made you change the swich.?
    Sometimes I go to start and it all the power cuts out. Battery cables are good. After a few back and forths...
    Car starts. But then I have to reset the radio stations. Any ideas ..? Thx.

    • @EdDoesTechEd
      @EdDoesTechEd  2 года назад +1

      I would put the key into the ignition and turn and the power cut out. Seems to have been the same as you. The resetting of the radio stations seems to be more electrical related for sure. If I do the back and forth more times, it would reset as well.

    MY KEY WOULDNT NOT MOVE FROM LOCK. THIS IS WHAT I DID: Liquid WRENCH (not liquid NAILS, you gen z folk) sprayed in the lock slot, using the litte straw that comes with it, AND THEN waiting 2 days, and theb BACK FORTH BACK FORTH BACK FORTH, and it broke free. .. But I DID find the little area where you stick the allen wrench into (thats the L shaped tool you gen z people) And then it has to be a thin one. try different sizes. harbor freight, 7 dollars for a kit.
    I DID try to press the button and did... BUT MY key wouldnt leave the LOCK position. Maybe pressing that button and trying to jiggle it after 2 days of Liquid WRENCH sitting in it (which is better than wd40) and it gave way.
