I think about Lil Ugly Mane and his whole discography at least once a day. That man’s music is insane. Not only is a lot of his shit scarily well produced, but almost every single song/snippet is a bop in it’s own right. But I think his greatest talent is lyricism/rapping. He gets very technical and just fucking fills up the verse with such dense vocabulary, word play, and imagery, but somehow still makes it catchy as fuck AND rhyme? That man is an absolute monster on the mic. TL;DR Lil Ugly Mane the GOAT
I know this is a meme but incase anyone was wondering what Anthony’s take on lofi hip hop is he’s said “in many ways millennials have perfected the ambient genre with lofi hip hop” so he quite likes it. Personally I don’t agree but still interesting to hear his take on it
Antwan - I have a great idea for a series. You should do an 'underrated' or 'forgotten classics' series, where you talk about albums which have been somewhat forgotten, or aren't celebrated by the community as much as they should be. Might I suggest Richard Hell's 'Blank Generation' or Eno's 'Here Come The Warm Jets'. I bet you've got bloody loads of albums to talk about.
Mista Thug Isolation is amazing from start to finish, BUT, there are better Memphis tapes out there. Runnin'-'n'-Gunnin' by Tommy Wright III comes to mind for me. I certainly prefer Third Side of Tape, they're completely different albums but it's so much better for me.
Glad Lil Ugly Mane getting the shoutout he deserves. Back when it first came out it was almost like a game of sorts trying to figure out the man behind the music. And just in time too since after that he's been growing out of the woodwork getting in touch with his fanbase and starting touring this year.
People say Keef and Finally Rich influenced the entire surface of rap today but really Waka Flocka, Lex Luger and Flockaveli birthed the sound. This dropped in 2010 and rappers TODAY are STILL trying to sound like this album
Nifty By Nature i wouldnt even necessarily say finally rich was what influenced the soundcloud camp like carti, purpp, pump, etc., but along the lines of tapes like bang 2 and almighty so because on those was when keef was really starting to experiment with his moany-mumbly sound that everyone really honestly hated whenever it came out, at least people that knew him from the mainstream, but looking at his style after those tapes and comparing it to now, its almost like the bit THE FUCK out of his style.
That one Cohen fan coming in just to say that its awesome that you want it darker grew on you and to tell anyone in the comments to try some of his stuff- some of you are bound to dig it and Cohen deserves a spot in our musical conciousness
These kinds of recommendations are the reason I started to watch this channel in the first place. They're actually names that many people (myself included) don't recognize at first sight (Traxman, Bell Witch, Batushka). Within this video, I actually discovered new music, instead of an opinion over popular albums. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy listening to his opinions over popular albums and artists, but I really miss going to this channel as a medium for discovering new music from bands that don't appear on the Pitchfork blogosphere.
Wish you had a few more words for Rashad. He changed the game for footwork and brought in so many different elements that modernised it and made it more accessible to casual listeners. Double Cup means a lot to a lot of people. RIP

You Want It Darker is essentially Leonard Cohen's version of Blackstar, being a beautiful yet sombre farewell to fans. I wish you'd talked about it more because it really deserves it.
