Hello!! Hope everybody is doing great. Those coloured pencils are a special edition of their Prismalo line. Prismalo is designed for children and beginners. And yes we want Steve colouring with them.
The packaging does not look like children's products at all :( And as it was said, it's really expensive for pencils for children and beginners. Here in my country you can buy professional colour pencils for 0.50$ per one
Hello to darling Rose (and Jennifer & Steve)!! It would be so great to have Steve do a video with these on black paper, unless he does not want to do so. Y'all are such a sweet couple. Thank you for the video!
Thanks as always for the great video and review! Would love to watch Steve color with that set on black, but only if he wants to. Maybe he could do one off camera and you could share it with us at a later time. It’s always great to spend time with you guys, thanks for all you do!
Yes, Steve should color with them. I would probably pick the color wheel set up 3 primaries w/3 secondaries opposite and then 3 tertiares w/ metallics a grey
Yes it would be fun to see Steve color on black paper with those pencils. Flourescent colors are my least favorite colors but they would probably look really good on black paper. The colors I would pick would be a warm and a cool of the following colors: White, yellow, blue, red, black, and brown.
Thank you for the review. It's great you do the search and you give us your opinion. Yes, for collectors, they are good. We need to craft affordable so we keep doing it.😊
Hi Rose and co. You are one of 3 people I watch on you tube. Colour pencils are a must for me as I am slightly colour blind and if I can’t see the colour names then it is very frustration. Even a number will be very helpful along with a chart. Thank you, hugs and loves.xxxx
I love the pencils as accent like FC black edition have neon or Pastel set. To have both fluorescent and metallic is good and use them with gel pens in smilar color. I would love to see Steve use them. You go Steve!
Steve needs to color on black paper! As to the 12 colors, I would include a black and a white, warm and cool versions of yellow, blue, red, a warm and cool green, burnt sienna, and sepia or some other dark, cool brown. Thanks for reviewing those! As I state in the post below this, I already bought a small version of Prismolos and loved them for what I used them for. I would have easily fell into the trap of an expensive small set because it was only (only?) $20 bucks.
I got a different set of the prismolos some time ago. There were only 2 pencils (a lot more affordable). There was a graphite/floro yellow and a red/blue set. The red/blue pencil was a true red/blue. I used them all until they were nubbins because I used them plein air. I have an adorable 2 pencil case that was just big enough to also hold a tiny sharpener and a small chunk of eraser. My husband had just had surgery and I had to take him to the dr's and PT appointments for several months so I sat in my car with a sketchbook and drew almost every inch of the parking lots..lol... Needless to say I got really good at trees and cars. I loved them but when I went to replace them, couldn't find the set anymore. Hubby was also back to driving himself so it wasn't a priority. But I am pretty sure I would not spend the money for the whole set. Although I am with Steve in loving those muted colors. I am pretty sure I already have them in other pencil brands.
yes to Steve coloring something quick with these on black paper! I think Steve is relatively quiet on most colored pencil videos but his interest was at least piqued here.
When you were first revealing the pencils, my thought was that Caran D'ache was trying to fill in the gaps that their orther pencils were missing. The florescent and metallics. But then that leaves the very odd choices of the regular colors. Im so glad I saw this video before discovering these on my own. I probably would have gotten them but I think its a hard pass in light of Jennifer's review. So thanks for doing this. As for Steve coloring....a big ole yes please. Jennifer you gotta make that happen. Love yall!
That was my thought too! The regular colors are basically Jewel Tones; if it was RGB it would be 150|00|00 for the red for example, 00|00|150 for the dark blue (well maybe a little bit in the red category lol) and 00|150|00 for the green. Even the Gold would probably be 150|150|00 and sort of in alignment. Obviously they're not precisely in that placement but just trying to illustrate roughly where they're at. If the quality was better it wouldn't be so bad but especially not for that price. These pencils are more of a collectible item...
I like the colors myself. I think I’d like a brown but you could easily make one by mixing. I think these world be best for highlighting small areas - especially the neons. I vote that Steve must color!!
If i only had these 12 i would cry too!! They kind of remind me of Caran d'ache Swiss Color----i have the 12 pencil set--they are water soluble---but the colors are "normal" yellow-orange-red-purple- blue-Blue green-light green-dk green-white- grey-black---these i could get by with (please dont make me though) they have no name or color on the pencil---they are nice to work with--i dont remember the cost----Steve you are in the spot light now!! HAHAHHA
I bought mine off an endcap from Blick, but they were less $ than that. I like using mine. I always look to see if I can use them on my pages. Love the metallic purple!
Yes Steve colouring would be so much fun 😁. Also do you (both) find double end pencils to be uncomfortable once they’re sharpened down? The back point ends up jabbing into your hand I have found. I avoid these sets because of this.
If I were to have a set of 12 pencils, these would be the colours I'd pick: 1. Bright Yellow 2. Primary Red 3. Dark Red 4. Sky Blue 5. Prussian Blue 6. Grass Green 7. Dark Forest Green 8. Olive Green 9. Ochre 10. Burnt Umber 11. Dark Purple 12. Light Peach
I have been experimenting with black, brown and tan paper w/ colored pencils, adding a bit of gouache to the mix. I have a large collection of dual sided CPs but use them for color matching suggestions, generally. Water soluble colored pencils = water color on a stick.
I bought myself a set of 12 pencils in a typical red Caran Dache tin. I am not very fond of their quality and was very disappointed. I cannot remember how much I paid.... but by far not as much as you. I live in Germany...perhaps these things are a bit cheaper here. After watching your review on the Derwent Chromaflow I had to have them and I love them very much. Thanks so much for your lovely videos 🙏 Angelika
I look at these "special editions" as just sort of gift guide stuff. Not for serious or even hobby artists. They're often not made from their best materials. That said, they had intriguing results on black and tan paper. They look like they're pigmented. Probalby overpriced here in the US because they're imported. I did buy their special edition of metallic pencils. It came with the option of getting the Neocolor I metallics but I already had those so I got the set of just pencils, luckily before the price rose. That almost never happens to me.
Yes, Steve color on black paper!! I would pick (not knowing Caran d'Ache color names) , Yellow, Orange, Red, Magenta, Grass Green, Cyan, Blue, Purple, Tan, Peach, Light Gray, Black. Do you have future plans on doing a review on the new Ohuhu colored pencils that just launched on January 25th? I've seen another review, but they just dont compare to yours with all the tests. I love your channel, i love your website, im in the process of so many tutorials! 😆 😅 multitaskting 😅
I think it would be fun to see Steve do some coloring, but not limited to this set... That's just mean!! 😂😅 I would want a set of rainbow colors! 🌈 I like bold rainbow colors! ❤ But then you could add a good opaque white and a tone of some of the colors...
Without names, how would you reorder more of favorite colors? I don't like getting only half a pencil of the color. I don't like the price. I would have put a color on half with the same color, only darker on the other end. (or lighter)
:D Yes, Steve needs to color with these on black paper. Ummmm, I wouldn't buy these. As for colors to add to a set, as opposed to just coming out with a little set to carry around with me, I would look at the colors already in the Caran d'Ache set and plug some holes that are most requested. I am not familiar with Caran d'Ache since I'll never be able to afford them, so I haven't looked into them. But these are not the colors I would have picked.
These look like morandi colors and fluorescents. Think highlighter colors. Maybe these are more for writing and notetaking than for coloring pictures. Also, small boxes of colored pencils are usually the same same same variety. I like them for black paper especially. I like the quality of the caran d'ache leads. This isn't for coloring artists, this is more of a journaling, planner, scientific notetaking set.
I think you're spot on. I was imagining a bullet journaler that cares about high-end brand names on their kit. I could see it being a fancy gift to someone like that
I would probably choose something pretty basic. Yellow, orange, pink, red, violet, blue, blue-green, green, brown, black, gray, and white. I would also love to see anything Steve colors using this set of pencils.
When a pencil breaks down and leaves crumbs, I like the way you say that it is “crummy”, but don’t you really mean to say that the pencil is “ crumbly”? Because it is falling apart and leaving crumbs? I mean, crummy works, but that usually means that something is not worth much, and is an awful value. I have never been a Caren D’ashe fan, but thank you for this thorough review.
like mentioned in other comments, those bicolors are Prismalo watercolour pencils & there is a set (also a limited edition) with the usual normal colours. the Prismalos are a real strange pencil, not really a child's pencil, but not really student grade, either ... they are cheaper than the Supracolor (at least in Europe..), but then again, Caran d'Ache Limited Editions are usually super expensive . (i'm so thirsting for the metallic pencils of the new space/galaxy themed (don't remember the name right now) special edition, but it's a 6 pcs pack for 35 Euro & they are no Luminance for sure...)
Wow. $23.50 US to Canadian dollars is $33.82! You can get 12 regular size Faber-castell Polychromos for that. Or 36 Black Widows, or so many other very good pencils brands! If I was going to design my own set. I'd pair each pencil with their opposite on the color wheel. Like red/green, blue/orange, violet/yellow, etc. I would also include 2 bonus dual pencils. A black/white pencil and a blender/eraser pencil, and a pencil sharpener. Personally, like the precision of eraser pencils. Also, including the bonus pencils and sharpener would just make for a nice, well-rounded on the go or beginner set! It would be a great gift set! Lol
I have way more pencils than I need. I think this collection is fun; I like the colors & am going to check them out. They are definitely overpriced though. Also, I wonder what the 3 fluorescents would like like under a black light.
What a surprise for you to advise a “don’t buy”! And the price‼️. A 6 pack would have been nice for traveling to visit my husband in a nursing home. What 12 Prismacor pencils would y’all suggest? I have accumulated duplicates of several pencils in from 1980 to 2022 as I built up to a full big set. I’d love to put together a 12 or even 24 set of Prismacolot pencils. My pencil cases are difficult to manage now that I have to use a walker.
It would make sense if Caran d’ache were to release pastel tones, dark tones or muted tones since these have been the trends on pencils and pens in the last years. But I get a sense that most colorists don’t care much about neons and metallics. Whoever designed these in Caran d’ache clearly thinks differently.
23:48 Yes Steve color on black paper!! Yes, please Steve!!
Steve colour on black…yes please!
Hello!! Hope everybody is doing great. Those coloured pencils are a special edition of their Prismalo line. Prismalo is designed for children and beginners. And yes we want Steve colouring with them.

Of course we would love to see Steve do something! I agree with having a better representation of the color wheel if dropped off on a desert island.
Yes please, do a colouring on black, Steve!😃
Do it Steve! I loved them on the black paper!!!!
Yes Steve!

Yes, Steve needs to colour a page with them

Yes Yes! Steve color, please!!!
Steve must color using those pencils on black paper. You can do it, Steve!
Yes, Steve should color with them. I would probably pick the color wheel set up 3 primaries w/3 secondaries opposite and then 3 tertiares w/ metallics a grey
Yep Steve needs to color with these.
Yes, it would be fun to watch Steve color with these pencils on black paper. It would be great to see you both try a mandala together.
yes to Steve colouring. lol. My 12 colours would be black, white, yellow, orange, red, light blue, mid blue, dark blue. brown, gold, silver, purple,

I agree with you! The basic colors
I would love to see Steve use these colored pencils on black paper! Sorry, Steve! He he he!
Color on black, Steve!
Im a Caran Dache fan, but i think i want the Derwent Drawing pencils a lil more.
Thanks Steve and Jennifer. I do like the pigmentation and the colors of this set however it does seem a bit hodge podge.
Steve - PLEASE color with them on black!
Steve needs to color with these OLD Spice Pencils on black.
Yes, it's Steve's turn
Thanks for Reviewing ❤

Poor Steve! Maybe do a mini picture on black - I'm feeling sorry for him 😀
I'm going to buy these and try them out. I definitely would have chosen different colors!
YES STEVE!!!! COLOR!!!!! 😂
I bought myself a set of 12 pencils in a typical red Caran Dache tin. I am not very fond of their quality and was very disappointed. That’s surprising. I find Caran d’Ache pencils last forever for me. I can do up to 50 light layers and I don’t need to sharpen.
Red, blue, black, white, brown, green, yellow, orange , gold, silver, teal, pink.
Do it, Steve! 🤣
They seem unique & fun as you said but the price &negatives would keep me from getting them.
I look at these "special editions" as just sort of gift guide stuff. Not for serious or even hobby artists. They're often not made from their best materials. Will you do a review for the limited edition cosmic blue mix media set?
Yes, Steve color on black paper!! I would pick (not knowing Caran d'Ache color names) , Yellow, Orange, Red, Magenta, Grass Green, Cyan, Blue, Purple, Tan, Peach, Light Gray, Black. Exactly. It'd be awesome if he used this set to spark inspo and had unlimited access to any other colors/brands he wanted.
Steve color on the black pa
we need to see Steve color with these!

it would be great if Steve would color with these pencils on black paper.
Hi. I would pick pink, purple, matcha green, evergreen, turquoise, baby blue, burgundy, lavender, mauve, tan, lemon yellow, and gold

Go Steve! Use those weird set on black,
So curious is a Swiss made pencil better than pencils made elsewhere? And if so why ?
My 12 colors:
White
Light Cool Grey
Black
Cool Yellow
Salmon
Warm Red
Phthalo Blue
Sap Green
Dark Indigo
Ochre
Burnt Sienna
Burnt Umber

like mentioned in other comments, those bicolors are Prismalo watercolour pencils & there is a set (also a limited edition) with the usual normal colours.

Pet Rose for us please
I actually kinda like those colors. Not sure why but I do.
I do too.
Wow. $23.50 US to Canadian dollars is $33.82! You can get 12 regular size Faber-castell Polychromos for that. Or 36 Black Widows, or so many other very good pencils brands!

Steve needs to color those on black paper
I have way more pencils than I need. I think this collection is fun; I like the colors & am going to check them out. They are definitely overpriced though. Also, I wonder what the 3 fluorescents would like like under a black light.
LOL...the Old Spice color palette
What a surprise for you to advise a “don’t buy”! And the price‼️. A 6 pack would have been nice for traveling to visit my husband in a nursing home.
What 12 Prismacor pencils would y’all suggest?
I have accumulated duplicates of several pencils in from 1980 to 2022 as I built up to a full big set. I’d love to put together a 12 or even 24 set of Prismacolot pencils. My pencil cases are difficult to manage now that I have to use a walker.
I do like those Florescent colors. very vibrant but definitely not for that much money. lol
PS: Steve needs to use those on black paper! hahahahaha
I think it will be fun to let Steve colour a picture with these pencils and let him comment about the experience.
It would make sense if Caran d’ache were to release pastel tones, dark tones or muted tones since these have been the trends on pencils and pens in the last years. But I get a sense that most colorists don’t care much about neons and metallics. Whoever designed these in Caran d’ache clearly thinks differently.
