This is the earliest memory of rally that i have in my brain. Seeing that banged up ford focus racing towards me from the distance. I was 5 at the time and didn't even know who these legends that were driving right there were. I started getting into rally again in the past 2 years and when i watched this video for the first time i got goosebumps to be honest. I had just realized who it was that i had seen that day.
Colin liked his short-cuts, i remember from rally GB there was a section that went through a flat open park area, the road snaked its way through this area. all drivers before Colin stuck to the road but Colin being Colin saw an opportunity to save time and went straight over the grassy bit where the marshals and camera guys were, the image of them diving out the way is still in my head today
Sure, there's more successful drivers but nobody has ever encapsulated what rallying is, more then McRae. He was always exciting to watch & i've never felt the same excitement watching rallying since him
I remember this as a 7 year old and I adored seeing Colin McRae absolutely rag the Focus because every time he was driving he gave everything. This was of particularly fond memories particularly at 2:19. M-Sport definitely built this one properly, that wouldn't happen today a car accepting two major accidents and still being mostly driveable

Pierre Fouquet Um... what? Cars today are WAY less tough mechanically and structurally than they were back in the early wrc and group a days. Absolutely no question about that. Active center diffs, electronically controlled transmissions, and so on all make today's cars glass statues compared to the old cars. No chance a modern rally car would keep going after being rolled in a flat out 6th gear corner. But that's also because today's rally drivers don't have the "keep going no matter what" mentality that old drivers had... There is absolutely no fucking way any wrc car today would take the punishment colin mcrae would give it. Its just like how the modern cars cannot cope with the classic safari rally, so in 2020 they are making it much easier with closed roads and private estates. It seems like you're making a lot of retarded assumptions, and that's not good because you can spread misinformation...

+pomaranc747 That rule along with the super rally rules make today's WRC a shadow of what it once was. People go in and they are like well if I crash, I can always restart whereas back then you had to go carefully because there was no 2nd chance. I wish the FIA could just stop messing with the sport and leave it be. I mean they have n't done the same to F1, so why spoil rally??
+Billy Raymond True. But its fans never left. F1 still has its fans who show up season in season out to watch the best go at it. I can't say the same for WRC....
"and we went in what was called a 5 right plus which is sort of a 5th gear corner and of course McRae in full maximum attack mode went in flat out 6th gear!" Oo
“Straight roads are for fast cars, turns are for fast drivers.” - Colin McRae

I love this quote
Great quote from a guy that couldn't turn one. 😂 Atleast in this video anyway.
@@kierenalvarez how many races has he done? ofcourse he's gonna have crashes lol. he has thousands of races so crashes are guaranteed

@@DrMurdercock yeah he didn't invent that saying lmao I heard it before he was even in rally racing.

2023, McRae is still legendary. 16 years after his helicopter crash.
2:21 Is this how the Ford Street Ka was born?
underrated.. up you go
/puma
I have the cougar which has similar features to the focus, and its the best car iv'e ever owned
Haha, I have one of those! I can see the similarity.
The mcrae 4 is actually based on the Ford Ka

dang bruh RIP
Aye.
that ford focus is the nokia of rally cars

2023, still remembered the WRC GOAT, Colin McRae.
Collin might not be one of the most successful rally drives, but, thanks his flat out driving style, one of the most famous
" But we talk about Collin Mcrae here, A Man who knows nothing but Flat out" that was the best quote in this clip
When rallying was just fucking epic!!!
Sam Power Tommi makkinen and him battling it out with Carlos sainz, juha kankunen, Richard burns, Marcus Gronholm it was class
nah, groupB was when it was epic,
The 80’s were the times when rallying was epic
Nicky " 99% of the car is damaged", Colin " its not over, we still have 1%".
"If in doubt, flat out!"

Not gonna lie: This episode helped in my decision to buy a focus.
Likewise, I had the ST:170.
This man was a beast. Still in our hearts
Colin forever. The real spirit of rallying. God bless you over there!

Nowadays cars look so fragile in comparison: that Ford was like a rock
Oussama Erraji I own ford focus mk1 2004 and It's not build same as WRC Focus whih is like rock but mine is more like plastics everywhere.

mine from 2001 has achieved 400.000 km, ford makes strong cars
FeRRuXi *europe ford
Oussama Erraji Softer bodywork = safer. In modern cars, the body work is made to absorb the energy in a crash.
There will never be another Colin McRae
Seeing Colin finish rallies with these hilariously ruined cars on the regular in the 90/early 00's was so entertaining.
I feel like the WRC cars were way more sturdier back then.
+Norwegian Bandit There are rules that forbid a lot of things like that now.

Bullet Club25 You might be suffering from nostalgia.

Nah, Intercontinental Rally Championship
Dirt rally 2.0
Someone before me already said this but the balls of the co-drivers with this man.
I was born in 89 and still remember the hype around Rallying, what a time to be alive. We were blessed.
This mans the definition of full send or no send
McCrash was always a treat to watch.
WRC hasn't been the same since 2007.

RIP to the legend. 15years today./
What about the kids and other people he killed by being a dick in a helicopter 🤦🏼
My childhood hero gives me goosebumps watching him drive if in doubt flat out 👍👍
How to turn a focus into a puma.
One of the most iconic cars in the world.
Golden days of modern rallying, in my opinion.

"When in doubt, flat out" Colin Mcrae
Collin McRae is finally the most legendary driver in the WRC. And he will be for ever! Colin you are the best!!
The Car looked like a Real Outlaw ! Thank you Colin
And this is one of many reasons he is a legend
13 years (!) gone already, and I still remember this like it was yesterday...

Amazing
Colin McRae - the Nigel Mansell of WRC. Super fast, spectacular in crash. Just needed more luck and stay on the ruad to win titles against Makinen.

A truly fearless driver.
