This is one of the single best release trailers for hardware I've ever seen.
Not a single word except for the product name. Clear visual communication of what the device is and how it's meant to be used. Clear communication that this is a Real Console that plays Real Games, as well as a casual pick up and play handheld. Clear demonstration Nintendo was (in 2016) thinking about taking esports seriously. Visually demonstrating that a first time player is initially uncertain about it, only to quickly adjust to the new system. Quietly revealing a large variety of launch titles. Crazy how good Nintendo got at marketing compared to the disaster that was the WiiU

I definitely agree. And it feels just as impactful as it did during it's release on RUclips. I wonder if they'll have a grand trailer like this for the next console.

@@JoseJimenez-vc7we that and Nintendo was clear and communicative of what the device was. I think long as they properly communicate on what the next console is, it'll do reasonably well. Especially now that Zelda's popularity has soared in the last 6 or so years.

Coming here after the news of the original trailer being private.
The day this trailer got released, I was in a robotics class. I didn't have a smart phone or any way to watch the trailer, so I sneakily took the laptop away from my team members so I could watch it. (wasn't a big deal, no one even noticed the laptop was gone for the 4 minutes I took it) I remember the switch hype so well, and honestly I really miss it. I really hope the hype for Nintendo's next console is similar
I'm not sure if you can relate but I feel like having someone to hype up or be face to entertain the launch for the next console I feel would be important as well. Someone like Etika who was able to spread that to people who spread that to others.
Lately it feels like nintendo has stemmed away from having "having a face" like Reggie so I also feel like there's this disconnect between the nintendo and their audience now more than ever. I guess that's why we have content creators but I'm not sure...
@@Kuratian that’s super fair, both Etika and Reggie were big parts in why I enjoyed the build up to the switch so much. Ngl since 2019 Nintendo hype has not been the same without either of em. They really brought an energy to the community that has not (and likely will not) be replicated
I remember being sad I never got into Nintendo systems after wii.. until the switch trailer dropped I almost wanted to get a Wiiu but stopped myself then the switch came.. I wished i had bought more switch games but I will soon enough... Totk and splatoon3 are what I desire...

It's very far from an original idea, Razer did this years ago except it's Razer so of course it was overpriced and it never went into mass production.
Dante this will be the same as its nintendo wii u... overpriced hardware, extremely overpriced software. They have lost their way. Should just give up and make software for other consoles.

innovative like always. there's not much you can do after that, it's everything gaming in one
One thing I love about this trailer is how the moments are actually plausible. Before it was all goofy no realistic scenarios pretty much, even the Wii U trailer was sort of gimmicky and highly unrealistic for the masses. Here, even if these seem a little bit far fetched, at least we can imagine these situations happening fr. It helps the marketability by a long shot, making it more relatable and less seclusive to a smaller audience. I love this trailer, I remember when it came out for the first time. I was really excited to see something like this come to fruition. Still my favorite console 7 years later.
Nintendo just delisted their original video, it is time for the next generation. 🎉

@@Samuelisakson It's the most likely reason. The video is from October, and got taken down in October. This is about as long as a console lifespan, makes sense the licence is done.
Almost exactly 7 years later, the original upload of the trailer has been privated.
I've been reading articles on the reason why Nintendo decide to remove the original video, on my Nintendo news there was something about a license expiration for the actors in the video.

i was 11 and i stayed and my parents let me stay up late to watch the direct. i ran out of my room, and told my parents nintendo was coming out with a new console. i saved up $300 (mostly with christmas and birthday money) 3:30 and my dad had a friend that worked at gamestop, so i got to “pre-order”. i got a new iphone on march 2nd, but i could hardly care about that. i could hardly sleep that night because the next day was going to be the best day ever. after school, i got home off the bus so my dad and i could go get the switch, then he surprised me by already picking it up. euphoria rushed through my body the first time i’d laid my eyes on that fresh box, and i spent weeks playing that thing. if heaven is real, it’s the night i watched this nintendo direct.

The Nintendo Switch is now 7 years-old! This might be the last March 3rd where it's the latest console. Between now and then if it doesn't release we'll at least get an official announcement on what the next system really is, so we're getting really close!
For those who don’t know, this video got taken down on the official Nintendo RUclips channel because the license agreement to the song and other aspects from the trailer has expired. I’m just glad that the original trailer still exists in at least some form.

In my opinion, this may be one of the most revolutionary consoles ever. The different types of controllers, the fact that it can be played on the controller AND TV, the only problem is that it's made by Nintendo which means it will only have nearly entirely exclusive games for it.
6 years later and this console has a large catalogue of third party games (obviously with some exceptions)

Uploaded exactly 7yrs ago today. How time flies by. And i still get goosebums watching the announcement trailer.
I got it on day one and still enjoy playing it after that long time.
Also today marks the day when Super Mario Bros. Wonder is officially released which is likely to be another big milestone in the History of the Nintendo Switch.

Man 7 years feel like a long time. I remember the first 4 years of the switch very fondly but the last 3 seem to pass by really quick. The build up from the NX was so real, we knew it was gonna be a great system and now the next generation (switch 2 or switch pro) is coming. I am really glad to have had played with a lot of friends when the switch was still molding itself and waiting on games after the 2nd year. Even though a lot of us have grown in life, I look back and see the great times and all nighters we would do on this system. I was 18 waiting in line for a switch with friends the night before, which was the last few times you could probably do that for a console launch. Now 25 and friends older than me, I still look forward to play fun games

I recently got this Switch from grey market, as they didnt launch in our country. I must say that Nintendo just re-designed the entire handheld gaming market.
Really cool! just being able to play skyrim and Zelda on the same device has me teally hyped. Also the video was made very well.
