Loved it when it was old school - it truly was up until Dec 2017 a year after Mel passed. When the new suits from SFO took over it really changed. . A lot of the great relics were taken away. Now the bar is boring and dark stripped of the old charm along with this the regular visitors and characters no longer hang there. The rates are way north of what they should be. Im glad we stayed there for many years up until the end. Good to see one original member of staff Danny from the pool / admin being interviewed here. Many happy memories.
Mr. Haber was a genius at promoting his restaurant. I worked there for the 1979-1980 season. I only saw one celebrity the whole time I worked there. Cyndie Williams, From Lavern and Shirley. Over all those years from 1975 on when Mel bought the property I don't think there were that many celebrities there. Mr. Haber always wanted his picture taken with Sinatra but Sinatra refused. He did sneak his face into a picture of Sinatra talking to a friend. This picture hangs on the wall at Melvyn's today. You're right. The old Melvyn's was much more fun and classy before they remodeled the restaurant.
I bought his book and he signed it for me. My favorite place in the world 💕
