Thanks for the lesson on blister beetles. Oklahoma grows some nice alfalfa and we depended on the farm to bale it right and never had a problem w/blister beetles. We get alfalfa hay from AZ a lot now and never have issues w/blister beetles.
I had never heard or saw the process of getting hay.... Until I was about 12 years old. I went to visit my dad and I guess I came at the perfect time for them...lol. 2 days after I got there we started cutting the field.... Lucky me when we swaft (spelling) I got to ride on the tractor.... Little did I know when we bailed it OMG I had to walk behind it and pull the bails off.... The whole huuuuge azz field. I got a lesson in life that summer.
Wow. 5 cuts. I have never heard of that 2 maybe 3 but 5 dang that's pretty darn good. I cannot believe anybody bad mouthing your channel. I mean everything you do is #1. Thank you for this video. Very interesting for sure. I live in the Southwest and if it doesn't rain a ton this year we are going to just dry up and be a dust bowl.
Interesting info on blister bugs and alfalfa. Never raised any alfalfa but, have gotten into and been blistered by the bugs. From the ending, it looks to me like we are going to see all the joys of putting up hay in a wet, rainy summer.
I would really love to see your bee setup .Enjoy your vlogs so much and learn something new every time! Thanks for taking the time and effort to share.
Yeah, letting the blister beetles crawl out makes total sense, if the grass is cut the blooms they're there for start to wither. They don't want to hang out if the blooms are dying. And YES, wanna see the beehive! LOVE bees! SO much to know about them but so worth the investment!
Okay, that was educational. Looking forward to the next one. Yes to the beehive. My brother and I had a hive when we were teenagers. Awesome experience
i appreciate your wisdom &how you share it... i continue to learn so much from each one of your videos sir! thankYou & heLLyes iWanna see those bee'Z... [p.s. that's gr8 common sense to open up the krimpers a bit, letting the beetles go on their way instead of becoming horse buffet in a bale... & personally i think you have a gr8 stand in that field]
Awesome video ..plant some oat hay cows and horses love it very little waste and seed most times cheaper then alfalfa ..also the last year of the alfalfa or in the pig damage spots you can over seed it and it will make an ecrn better stand your stsnd looks awesome don't get me rong but over seeding some oats will make more ton to thr acre . Kentucky red oat or a verity of the Canadian red oats will produce well for you . Interesting about the Beatals in your hay I relay enjoyed that info ..we don't have that problem in west just grass hoppers eating hay ..
If i am just growing this in my backyard to help the soil do i even have to worry about this blister beetle mess?? Can I just have my fat husband mow it once or twice a year?
I love your videos. You're always teaching us things. I got a question. Which is the best cutting in your opinion, the 1st, 2nd or 3rd cutting? You may get 4 cuttings. I don't know.
@@themendotaranch thank you!! I've heard that too but I've also had people try to say the 1st is the best. Thank you and I love your videos by the way. They're very informative.
Just interested how long Carlos? has been with you? You two seem to know what each needs , without questioning. My family was small farmers with Red / white face Herefords .We baled square bales Bermuda grass, family affair, get it in before it rained. Really enjoy watching your big time “ Ranching”.
for a guy that can afford a helicopter and a mansion with a roping arena you would think he could own a self propelled mower??????? pull mowers suck because in order to cut in strips you are driving over the wind rows way too much. what gives mendota ranch?????
@@themendotaranch Yep. All the people I know with the most money are the ones who are the least wiling to part with it. May favorite comment I see is " they have so much money why are they so cheap?", which actually answers the question they are asking.
Facinating!
Absolutely love your videos Jason
Thanks so much.

" they can just freaking eat it"🤣🤣
What's the name of the stallion used to breed your mares
Mr Sister CD
Can you get live blister Beatles in a bale of alfalfa? Do blister beetles show up in grass hay? Alfalfa hay cubes?
Looks lush 👍🏼 hope you are all well.
It is. We have been blessed with good rain.
Are the blister Beatles a hazard to cattle where I’m at we don’t have a problem with them so I don’t know anything about them
They aren’t.
Brilliant! Looking forward to part 2 already! Would love to hear about the bee's!
Yep, let’s see some bees , I’m a bee keeper in Arkansas 🐝🐝

He’s been here quite a few years and is a great guy and hard working.
Damn those blister beettles really suck
“I’ve invented new ways to screw it up.” I can relate. But if you’re not trying, you’re not learning. I’m looking forward to the rest.
When u bake do u ever use the wrapping technique?
No. We use net.
Good information, wanted to know, does the blister beetle, just on the alfalfa or grass hay as well.
Just the alfalfa. They are after the blooms.
Show us your 🐝🐝Please !
I want to see the bee hives
Not a farmer either.. but first cutting alfalfa for horses??
My first cutting is always grassy. I like a grass/alfalfa mix for my horses.
How much hay do you put up a year? I assume u sell some since ur not running all the reset mares
I bet close to 2000 round bales. We do sell some now that we aren’t feeding so many.
“Whoever commented that eat it”
Very interesting. You should be called what you want to be called whether it’s farmer or rancher
Hope you don't get any rain till after it's baled👍
The word RANCH is Spanish for FARM.
!
