I like putting my flag behind the lake and blitzing with generals and majors on that side. I usually put all my strong pieces that I won't blitz with in the center so I can just give up one flank and crush them as they waste time on useless attacking. I just got back into the game, but as a seven year old, I played alot and this strategy always worked. Even as my friends began doing the same, I always managed to get the upper hand.
Hi Henery, It's very hard to win with the flag behind the lakes as you move up the Stratego leader board. Most good players always try to scout the 4 blocks of pieces behind both sides of the lakes. That's usually where the top pieces and spy are hiding. So it's very dangerous to put your flag there. Here's a link to the won/loss ratio of every flag position on over 42,000 games played at Gravon. The lake positions had about a 31% chance of winning. stratego-tips.blogspot.com/2017/04/wonloss-percentage-of-every-stratego.html.
@@strategotacticsandtips5636 huh...I guess it was just sheer surprise that made it work. That's very good to know, thank you. I would just think if I was attacking on one side of my flag, and have the other side filled with most of my stronger pieces it'd be hard to get to the flag, but I guess not. I'll have to take that into account. I don't want to put it in a corner, as if my attack isn't successful my flank will collapse and it's a wide open target, so maybe I could try to integrate it into the middle of my center.
That's great! There's lots of ways to play Marshal blitzers, but I do like swapping the Marshal with the General and then counterattacking with the General towards their blitzing side. A lot depends on your setup though. Here's a thread with advice on the Stratego forum: forum.stratego.com/topic/360642-how-to-counter-marshal-blitzers/
I found this informative. I have found the Marshal Blitz to be the easiest style for me to beat. There is a difference in how the Bronze level blitzers play than the Gold blitzer here. I need to come up with a setup that allows me to go on the attack like you did.
I like playing Marshal blitzers as well. They are hard to beat when they attack my flag side. :) The hardest players for me to beat are the ones that never reveal their Marshal or wait until the very end of the game to reveal it. I always have lots of scouts near my General. You need them for the quick counter attack.
Maybe in the future. I don't have time right now. I want to start posting some old videos again. I just need to find games that have worthwhile lessens to make people think like a Stratego Player. Maybe try playing some good former Stratego members at strategus.appspot.com/
If you like a fun quick Stratego game, try downloading the free Probe Stratego game (version 2.3.0.0) for the PC and play against it with a random setup. The games go fast. Try winning 5 in a row(it can be harder than you think). The random setup lets you really understand how important setups are toward actually winning the game. The games are a lot of fun. I like how aggressive Probe is when it's way behind or way ahead. I'll probably be posting some of these games.
Growing up as a kid....we played that when the player attacks, defender announces the piece....if attacker wins, he does not mention what the piece is. Yes, honor system in REAL PLAY...not sure there is a setting for this online....but I believe what is what Bash717 is referring to.....variant to the standard rules....makes a the game a lot more interesting and "rewards" the more aggressive player.
Could you also give some information about general blitzers. Against Marshal blitzers I know how to play, but against general blitzers I losing always. For me it is good they are not so much as Marshal blitzers
I haven't face too many General blitzers. It's probably a good idea to keep your Mashal centralized and placed on 1 of the top 2 rows. You might want a few bombs on the top two rows as well. Just don't place any bombs on the open spaces on the front row. Make escape lanes for your Colonels and fully understand the 2 square rule so they don't get trapped early in the game. Remember that the Marshal is usually on the other side where the General starts around 66% of the time. So you might want to counter attack your opponents General side with your General or Colonels. You might even want to try General blitzing yourself for a few games. It will give you an idea of the pros and cons of that strategy.
Where do you play? What platform

which way of playing do you prefer? Attacker and defender reveals piece OR only defender reveals piece?
I'm not sure what you mean. Both players reveal pieces when engaged.

Turn up the mic volume!
Will do.
