We have downsized to a 1400 sq ft house in Florida. I have edited so much and love the simplified way of life so much. I got rid of laundry basket all together. We put dirty clothes right into the washing machine and run a load when it is full enough. Pull clothes out of dryer and throw on bed to fold and then put away. Easy peasy.
Mom and I are so alike. I have the same stuff I have been trying to part with. It’s so nice your channel is covering the two main phases of life. Your decluttering is exactly how it is for young families with growing children. Moms POV is perfect for us that are retired. You both are delightful and are my favorite decluttering, minimalism channel! Hugs, judy
Your mom is doing a great job decluttering. I’m in my sixties and just started the decluttering process Last week I finished decluttering a 10 x 10 storage unit with my daughters help It was great to vacant that space knowing I will no longer have to pay rent for all that clutter. Now I will start on my every thing else I own in apartment. I already know a lot of things can go, so I’ll start with the easy stuff You moms is a real inspiration to me. Please hug her for me Love watching you two❤
The car outfit exchange had me rolling with laughter! I am so glad your mom is wearing clothes when she will leaves the house. You two are awesome!❤. Thanks for sharing every week.
I am right this very moment moving into a brand new built home. 80 percent of our stuff has been in storage while we built….I am being ruthless and as I open each box say…..nope, never used or won’t use and even to my grandmothers glass items….haven’t used 5hem in over a decade….soooooooo no more storing!!!!!! I am in love with simple and minimal
With regards to travel/make-up/other lady bags we do have an initiative in my country called “not luxury bags”. You take a bag and fill itt with basic care items like shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste, deodorant, any skin hear or health product, that you want to get rid of, and it gets passed on to homeless ladies, women shelters. I believe that is a fantastic way to get second life for the bags and fill a meaningful purpose, help the ones in need. Good job on decluttering again, please keep sharing these videos, it’s great!!! Thank you!
Hi ladies- I just found your channel though the algorithm after binging Minimal Mom starting this past fall! I love your mother daughter episodes. My mom has been gone for a long time, and me being young when she passed, we didn't get this type of time together. You both are a treasure!! I feel like I get some mom time too when I watch, so thank you!😊
"My emergency car outfit" - Too funny! I love it when you do videos together. Way to go Cathy, you keep finding more to declutter! I'm closer in age to you than to Shannon, & you're motivating me to take a critical look around the house for things that can go that I don't use anymore. So much stuff accumulates over decades of raising a family, entertaining, etc. But seasons of life change & it's best if we can adapt to them in terms of the amount & type of inventory in our home. At this stage, as an almost empty nester, I'm looking forward to simplifying in order to have more space & especially more peace in my environment.
I love watching you and your mom! I imagine how it would have been if my mom and I had decided to declutter. Mom was born in 1928 and just kept everything! Some of it I try to explain to my (adult) kids, everyone saved their bread bags and stuffed them in their winter boots! I'm sure your mom remembers that, we are close in age. Times changed! And now I'm still finding stashes of saved plastic bags. :)
I’m currently on a 3-week trip in Europe and I packed super light. Funny thing is I was scared to pack so minimally, but now I’m realizing how little I actually need and I’m realizing how much more I can declutter back home now.
What I enjoy the most about your videos is how close you and your Mom are. You both are having so much fun. I started my decluttering journey 2 years ago and I, like yourselves, still find many things to declutter. I had to laugh about the hair brush as I jumped up and got THREE out of my bathroom . LOL Thanks for keeping us motivated.
I seem to go back thru the same spaces over and over. Recently emptied 5deawer chest onto bed, so, had to go back thru remaining drawers to make stuff fit. Got rid of more stuff!!!
I’ve been cleaning out since before I saw your videos but that inspired me more. I’ve noticed it happens in stages. Things I wasn’t ready to get rid of before, I became ready and donated them later. I’m still working on it. I don’t want my family to have to go through all this clutter. Thanks for the tip about diaries and journals.
Love your mom! The death cleaning videos were amazing! We have been trying to get ours to declutter for years, even gave her a gift certificate for an organizer but she won’t do it. She does “clean up” and sort things, but it’s not getting less. If we mention something, she gets sensitive. Perhaps you could do a video with your mom where she is advising us how to talk with our moms in a sensitive way? Thank You!
Your mum cracks me up!!! I watch all of your videos but whenever I see your mum is joining you I know I’m going to laugh. Also how you bounce off each other. ❤
I recently discovered this channel and really like the mother and daughter act. They make a great team!. Mum is a hoot and I wish she lived closer to me - Boston North Shore. ( BTW I am British, so this is how I spell the short form of Mother.) My mother was the opposite of a hoarder and maybe threw away too much but saved her children lot of hassle. She died over 30years ago .
You don’t even know how many times I’ve had to change my clothes while I’m in the car!!! Spilling coffee… one time the fasner on one of my blouses broke. Luckily I had a top that was in the truck for a donation- so I could switch. 🤣😭. It happens!!!! 💕. Your mama is getting so comfortable on camera.
About four years ago, I mentioned in a comment that I'm hard of hearing and said that I couldn't understand voices over background music. Thank you so much for listening! Love your channel
Thank you, when I make talking videos I try not to add music. When I have other videos of around my home and cleaning my home sometimes I try to add light music to make it more interesting =) I hope you have a great day.
Love the videos with your mom-I'm 50, and my perspective is somewhere in between the two of you, so I can always relate to one or the other of you in these videos. Appreciate you both explaining the "why" of your thoughts & feelings about reasons to hold on to or to let go of specific items...that aspect really helps us viewers ponder, dig into, our own processes & rationales :)
I had to laugh when Mom said she'd put clothes in the declutter box several times and taken them back out. That's me exactly. For some reason I imagine how I can wear the item, but I never pick it to wear. It's a pretty color, but it doesn't feel good. I need to just get rid of it and then I'll be done with it. Thanks for making me feel normal. I love watching you two together.
Yesterday I spent an hour in my basement den decluttering a "corner area" (that I have been meaning to tackle for about 3 years) that's near a storage cabinet and was able to declutter around 20 items. After I was finished, I was irritated because I should have done this a long time ago because it didn't take very long. Half of the stuff was basically trash and half can be donated. You are correct, I keep revisiting areas that I have already decluttered several times but still find things mainly because my mindset is different, I think. I have to be honest; I have decluttered a few things that I regret but for the most part I don't regret getting rid of most things. I have a continuous "donate pile" and when it gets big enough, I make a trip to the thrift store. I have also found things that belong to my two kids and sometimes they want them and sometimes they don't.
So important to keep decluttering on an ongoing basis. I helped a friend declutter her home and we created a "Donation Drop Zone" in her garage so she always had a place to put the things she wants to part with. It's been so effective and she's filled it several times as she's gotten more ruthless over time. ☺️. Hi Kathy ☺️
I had an old falling apart blanket that I finally put in the outgoing box in the garage. In the middle of the night I couldn't sleep and went out and got it! In my defense my grandma made it but I am over 60!! I did throw it away the next year when it really started to fall apart but I kept a square of it in my nightstand haha.
I put an A/C box in my basement and started putting toys away kids hadn't played with in months. Kept it for 1 month and just decluttered it! Felt sooo good! (They did ask for 1 thing during that month, which was pulled back out, but everything else went without a hitch!)
You and your mum are so beautiful. Always lovely to see your videos together & I get so much out of your minimalist content. Keep it up ladies, you’re absolutely brilliant ❤😊
I saw a beauty boutique had a big collection of those vintage mirrors on display in their reception, it looked amazing. An update, a few days ago I went though our books and got rid of 3 boxes, also got my son a more suitable desk and am slowly going through his stuff and paring it down. I also went through my wait and see bag and got rid of another 2 bags of clothes. I'd happily keep decluttering full time for the whole month, just need the family out of my hair and time off work, and someome to clear off the boxes and bags from the front porch on a regular basis. This is so freeing. I've always decluttered but never like this.
My friend told me her husband took the kids away and she spent 3 days going through their room! 18 hour days! I wish I could get a big block of time but how exhausting.
Oh sister! I, too, have had old mirrors from family. Good job letting it go!! (That's where all mine went) I really love seeing you two together.....getting two generations of opinions is great! Maybe the bathroom cupboard breeds makeup bags during the night......yes! That's it. It isn't us......
Love these monthly videos. It shows the way we "peel back the onion" in decluttering. Doing my stuff, but hubby gives me grief while I am decluttering. I kept all his work memorabilia for him (awards and news) and gave them for him to sort through, he did and was happy about it....little steps!
Yay, a livestream :) and it is really really crazy how much stuff we all can keep finding. This has to be one of my most favorite trends ever...decluttering. Less is more. I've really tapped into self awareness and the fantasy self. It's like a lightbulb goes off and you are unchained.
Recently finding your channel... very inspired to get to work. When "mom" mentioned the travel iron, I immediately went to my closet and pulled mine out to donate. I doubt I ever travelled with it and I don't remember if I ever used it! Letting it go! There's so much more to address. Thanks for the ideas.
You have such a beautiful relationship and it's just lovely to watch you both together. I mean, it's your mom so of course you're so comfortable with each other and have great conversation.
Oh my gosh...me too! Years ago I also decluttered our clothing hamper that was a divided section kind. First I decluttered the laundry baskets. Then I went to a three section hamper. Now, I just use a small round rolling bin hamper with a waterproof liner that sits right next to the washing machine in our hall laundry closet. I guess people use these liners for diaper bins? I thought hey, that would work inside of our little rolling basket hamper so if anything wet got put in there, instead of straight to the washing machine, it wouldn't cause mold, etc. It looks great just to have the one rolling bin right next to the washing machine! I guess we are kind of weird because our dryer broke 2 yrs ago and we are still hanging dry but it works for our empty nester status 😅 The bin sits inside the laundry closet in the hallway where the dryer should be LOL we may be weird but it works, and there's even room to hang all the laundry dry inside the closet as well!!
That sounds like a great system! It's crazy how I also over complicated everything by having all these extra baskets and hampers LOL. I hope you have a wonderful week!
What I find amazing is that I can declutter, then go back over exactly the same area and find MORE stuff to get rid of!!! I am 62 and have downsized a couple of times. At my current home, I have decluttered my closet and my kitchen at least 2x and I am finding more things to eliminate from my kitchen as I watch you two. I know some of the need to declutter multiple times comes from me going through my garage. I have been using it to hold some of the things that I just couldn't get rid of at the last move. Naturally, some of it finds its way inside the house. But, I also think that some of it is, as you have said, getting into the flow. Baby, I am so tickled to be 'in the flow'. My 'plan' is to do a weekly 30 min cleanout, and then at least 1x annually to save a day for an all-day marathon. It is just me and the dog, so you'd think this could be a 'one and done', but I don't realistically see that happening...:-) Love you two!
Love to see you both, so I'm in the middle, I'm older than Shannon but younger than Kathy but as I listen to Kathy's logic on why she kept so many things a lot if made sense to me. Maybe it's just an older lady thing 😆, but hopefully little by little I can start thinking more like Shannon and just think of what I need/use NOW. I'll keep trying, thank you ladies 🙋
Lisa, I think it's less an age thing and more of a personality thing. I am older than Kathy and have never had trouble letting things go. I have watched some of Shannon's videos with her Mom decluttering (the older videos), and when Kathy decided to keep something, I would be thinking "Why are you keeping that?" LOL
Back up car outfit - maybe in a bug out scenario if SHTF! I dont see me bigging out either, im sta8hone where its more comfortable. Good to know mom isn't driving naked. Ha ha! Eliminating the hamper, good call, an extra not needed step. Because you just might need that travel iron for an Italy trip! It's crazy what we hold on to for trips we only take in our heads. I have a small travel alarm clock, had it for years, guess I can let that go. Phones have replaced them.
It is so inspirational to see you guys doing these videos together. When you were talking about make up bags, I paused the video, went up and got the big make up bag that I never use and got rid of it. Such a relief! I only need my tiny bag now👌
I have that same striped sweater tunic thing! In fact, not only do I have the white with black stripes, I also have it in black with white stripes. Maybe I should look at myself in a photo. 🤣
First, I just want to say that your Mom looks very nice in the blouse she is wearing. That’s a keep. As I have said before I like when you and your Mom do videos together. They really get me thinking about my years of stuff because I am your Mom’s age. I was wondering if your Mom has noticed if she buys less stuff now.
@@shannontorrens1 That means it’s rubbing off on her. That’s really good. Your Mom and I come from a very different era. I am trying to lessen my stuff and shopping too. I don’t buy nick nacks anymore. Keep up the good work work, Shannon. I am sure your kids are benefiting from your example too!
My favourite videos are when mom comes and joins in,shes my kinda friend, and she is the bees knees at this decluttering lark now, wow, keep going girls luv ya xxxLizzie Wales UK 😘
Thank you for your videos. It looks like your mother is looking younger with each decluttering video. Had you not mention this lovely lady is your mother I would think she is your older sister. I appreciate your relaxed fun videos and bindge watch them whenever I need an inspiration to tackle a project in my house. 😊❤
I absolutely LOVE watching you and your mom!! She is so funny! I love watching y’all together! It fills my heart ❤️ You are so sweet and precious with your mom! Thank you both for all the encouragement and the entertainment! : )
I loved this slow in depth video about letting go a little each time. That’s how it comes in so makes sense thats how it should go out. Its a manageable approach. I like how this process helps keep you in touch with your homes needs but also causes you to have conversations with yourself about where you are now in life and to consciously be in touch with who you are now. It sparks conversations with yourself that are meaningful and could propel you to your next project or venture and keeps the energy of your life flowing forward. ❤❤❤
I wish my mom shared my joy for simple life and could let go of things but she keeps everything from the past and is overwhelmed but not willing to change. It’s so sad. 😔
Watching while drinking my tea from my own Anthropologie mug. The handle is truly tiny but luckily I only have small hands!! Great video. I love your relationship. ❤
Well done both of you 👏🏼👏🏼 after watching I am always motivated to take another look around - & I too still find more things to declutter it’s amazing 🤩 I love how you both talk through why you decide to declutter each item it’s fun to hear your stories 😀 Happy 4th of July ❤ great video ❤
Yes I can find things each pass through the house. 😁 I do find the idea of "blessing" someone very helpful, especially if something was of high value. I think, I hope someone feels blessed to find this item, which (I cross my fingers) is priced reasonably. Even if they resell it on ebay. It is no longer in my inventory. It feels good letting it go. Thanks for sharing🤗
I think these videos are helpful because they celebrate little victories and give with examples of things you do not need (like dont keep a mug that you cant really use because the hole is too small or the hamper that makes extra work for you).
You are both so funny and inspiring at the same time! Thanks for encouraging us to keep up on the decluttering! I've had to help declutter more than 50 years of craft items at my Mom's last year. It was a huge undertaking, and got rid of 11 huge trash bags of stuff. She still has a lot of stuff, but it's more manageable now and will help us kids out in the future! Now I'm busy this summer decluttering every area of our home, and am LOVING it! We have a huge library of books that I've collected for more than 30 years, and we homeschool so the books keep coming in;-) So far I've decluttered 260 books and brought them to the thrift store!
I really liked the decluttering aspect from 2 different stages of life. I am more your mom's age and the things she lets go are some of the things I need to go through and it's great to see her decluttering muscles grow because it gives me hope for myself. I also need you Shannon most to DEVELOP my decluttering muscles and help with the thought process for decision making. An area or category at a time is far more manageable at my age. I actually have what will fill my back car seat ready to go toward the end of the week and I cannot wait to get it out! out! out! Thanks to you both and have a nice 4th of July. It's pouring buckets here in the n/e. P.S.--I never thought of an emergency outfit for the car. I just might do that!
Shannon, you and your mum have really inspired me and I've started decluttering after years of filling my house. Can you offer any advice on how to get past the hurdle of thinking ' I can alter that, or I can sew that into something else '? I am a crafty person who loves to sew and find I go round in circles with clothes as I always find new reasons to keep them. Applies to any craft or hobby person. Thanks for the inspiration🙏
Happy 4th of July weekend! I hope you are enjoying your weekend doing something fun. Awesome job again decluttering. I hear you. After you've decluttered so much, there's not always a lot to get rid of anymore...just a few things here or there. Hi, mom, Kathy. 💛
As im watching your vlog. I have been rummaging through my stuff and decluttering, some will be given away and some can be sold. Still a long process for me but a little goes a long way. Guilty with travel pouches but still not ready to part ways with it as plan on traveling is still in the horizon. Love to see both of you on your vlog. 💕🇵🇭
You two look EXTRA cute and happy. If Mom ever decides to rob a bank, that extra car outfit would come in handy for the getaway. Lol.
We have downsized to a 1400 sq ft house in Florida. I have edited so much and love the simplified way of life so much. I got rid of laundry basket all together. The "emergency car outfit" was my favorite part of the video🙂
"A little bit (of decluttering) goes a long way." So true! "You put them on and they triple in size." So true! You two are fabulous!!!

Haha I don’t know why I love these ‘what I decluttered this month’ videos. I find you and your mom together so entertaining.
I am so happy to hear this! =)
You two are so fun! I love the decluttering tips, and how well you interact, great videos. Keep 'em coming.
Love watching you and your mom! You guys look like you have so
much fun together!
😊 thank you
Yay, a livestream :) and it is really really crazy how much stuff we all can keep finding. This has to be one of my most favorite trends ever...decluttering. Less is more. I've really tapped into self awareness and the fantasy self. It's like a lightbulb goes off and you are unchained.
Oh my gosh, I didn't know other people had "car outfits"! You never know when you might need it!😁
Recently finding your channel... very inspired to get to work. When "mom" mentioned the travel iron, I immediately went to my closet and pulled mine out to donate. I doubt I ever travelled with it and I don't remember if I ever used it! Letting it go! There's so much more to address. Thanks for the ideas.
That is awesome!
Love Your Show, Shannon and Love Your Mom too ❣️🤗
Kathy, you have come so far with decluttering since you first started. You have really developed your decluttering muscles. Great video, ladies!
Thank you so much!
I ha❤decluttered so much the past 5 years so now I make a paes through my house to declutter or discard things. I try for 5 items each time.
I liked your stripey jumper too, but good on you for decluttering it.
Cathy u have come leaps and bounds! I love both of u doing these videos! My favorite
It is so inspirational to see you guys doing these videos together. When you were talking about make up bags, I paused the video, went up and got the big make up bag that I never use and got rid of it. Such a relief! I only need my tiny bag now👌
Love that!
Hello Judy, I notice my mom buys way less! She still gets clothes when she needs/wants to switch things out but overall there is way less shopping.
Shannon & Mom Cathy, Great video. It's amazing what all we hold on to. Love your videos. 😊
Sending good vibes to you and your beautiful Mom from Chicago area ❤❤
I always enjoy your great decluttering videos. Loved the garage one, plus these kind. It is so great you do these together.
Shannon and Mama duo! Always a great time 😊
My favourite videos are when mom comes and joins in,shes my kinda friend, and she is the bees knees at this decluttering lark now, wow, keep going girls luv ya xxxLizzie Wales UK 😘
I love the mirror & compact set, the hand mirror from 1950s and the hat bag😍
Thank you for doing these videos together. These videos crack me up 😂
Thank you for your videos.
You guys are hilarious I love it!!! So nice you get to do that with your mom - and love your sense of humour - I’m laughing a lot !! 👍❤️🙏
I use makeup bags to categorize and hold hair items on a shelf in my closet. They work perfect!
Watching while drinking my tea from my own Anthropologie mug. The handle is truly tiny but luckily I only have small hands!!
Great video. I love your relationship. ❤
Thank you for sharing your mom with us.
I do find the idea of "blessing" someone very helpful, especially if something was of high value. I think, I hope someone feels blessed to find this item, which (I cross my fingers) is priced reasonably. Even if they resell it on ebay. It is no longer in my inventory. It feels good letting it go.
Thanks for sharing🤗
Just love the videos with your mum! My mum & I watch them together, so much fun ❤
You are so kind, thank you!
We have a huge library of books that I've collected for more than 30 years, and we homeschool so the books keep coming in;-) So far I've decluttered 260 books and brought them to the thrift store!
such a lovely duo :) each time i watch you feel a smile :) thank you :)
this was awesome ladies! you two reminded me of more stuff I can let go of....thanx for the inspiration ♥
So glad!
Love you two! Amazing what you two find. 💕💕💕
Shannon, thank you for continuing to keep these motivational videos coming. You and your mom are truly helping me to continue my decluttering journey
I always look forward to your videos. You are so right, there is always stuff to declutter!!
Yay! Thank you!
Haha! I have that G mug… yeah, the handle is badly designed. I have it on my desk at work and I use it for pens and pencils.
this is inspiring me to keep decluttering
This was SO FUN... love your stories 😂. Thanks for making us smile.
Just wanted to say- you two are gorgeous. I mean I love the content and your mom is hilarious. But you are both stunning. ❤
Thank you so much!! I hope you have a nice day =)
Shannon, you and your mum have really inspired me and I've started decluttering after years of filling my house.
Love love love the decluttering videos with you and your mom. ♥️
Yay! Thank you!
So glad I came across this... it's exactly what I plan on doing today!
I have master closet shelves that perfectly hold a laundry basket. My husband and each have one for our dirty clothes.😊
Happy 4th of July weekend! I hope you are enjoying your weekend doing something fun. Awesome job again decluttering. I hear you. After you've decluttered so much, there's not always a lot to get rid of anymore...just a few things here or there. Hi, mom, Kathy. 💛
I seriously have a travel iron in the 'maybe' pile to declutter or not. You're right. It needs to go LOL
I love watching you ladies!!!
I love this mom and grandma
As im watching your vlog. I have been rummaging through my stuff and decluttering, some will be given away and some can be sold. Still a long process for me but a little goes a long way. Guilty with travel pouches but still not ready to part ways with it as plan on traveling is still in the horizon. Love to see both of you on your vlog. 💕🇵🇭
I love you guys now your mum is so positive towards the process. ❤ thank you for sharing
