    Quite often they fortify plant milks with calcium carbonate which is also the active ingredient in antacids. The last thing you want to do is lower your stomach acid. It seems so crazy to me that they use this as a calcium supplement when it neutralises stomach acid 😤

    I was plant based for year and felt blah. Switched to carnivore and I feel amazing. I try to reintroduce some vegetables but every time I get a negative reaction.

    I have had low vitamin a throughout my life. What test can I take to find out if the issue is bad conversion?

      any genetic test that measures the BCMO1 or BCO1 gene. From self-decode, "The T (minor) allele is associated with:
      Females carrying the T variant had a 32% lower ability to convert Beta-carotene. (R)
      rs7501331(T)+ rs12934922(T)= 69% lower conversion of Beta-carotene to retinyl esters... The BCMO1 gene (rs12934922and rs7501331) is known to influence the conversion of beta-carotene to vitamin A. (R)
      TT= 57% reduced conversion activity of beta-carotene (In test tubes) (R)."
      FYI there are vegan derived retinyl palmitate suppolements that one can use but there is always a danger of toxicity when taking the preformed vit-A / retinols.So depending on dose, one should space it out.Or if you're lacto-ovo vegetarian, you can consume egg yolks.

      I'm reposting because my previous reply was removed by youtube because youtube thought it had a url since I neglected to add a space after a period. You can get a genetic test for the BCMO1 or BCO1 gene. If you have one of the SNP variants that indicate low conversion then you can consider retinol palmitate supplementation (there are vegan/synthetic sources like by Solgar) but as with the preformed Vit-A / retinols, there's always a danger of toxicity so I would space it out depending on dosage. If you're lacto-ovo vegetarian, egg yolks will provide sufficient full vitamin A without overdosing.

    I eat 3500-3800 kcal being vegan. My problem is not eating too much of calories.

      @@Jay-eo3wl well, all sorts of whole grains like oats, buckwheat, pearl barley, brown and white rice, whole wheat pasta and tomato pasta sauce, corn (canned, frozen and in cobs), tons of bread (preferably wholemeal with high fibre content), all sorts of legumes and beans, such as white, navy, black, kidney, etc, peas, lentils, Edamame, tofu, tempeh, nato, sweet potato, potato, obviously seasonal fruits, like apples, pears, mandarins, bananas, mangoes, etc, avocados (I'm spoiled to live where they grow), fresh vegetables, almonds and almond spread, all sorts of plant milk (mostly soy, almond and oats), plus some jam, vegetable spread (margarine), a bit of oil, sunflower, and grape seeds (or any other oils). Some dark chocolate. Bulk of my dietary pattern is very cheap food and I get in the neighbourhood of >2 g-protein/kg/day without trying...

      @@Jay-eo3wl I need so much energy, and carbs specifically - I would've ran out of charge in no time if I didn't eat grains. I need ≈1200 kcal daily to just power my training. Also, fruits are a must as well, including grapes and persimmons :)

      ​@@arkytitan What do you attribute to your ease of getting in the protein? I'm moving to a more plant based diet whilst aiming for around 180-200g protein per day. Have been struggling to find a very convenient solution thus far, I normally end up filling up the quota with protein shakes or ready cooked chicken

      @@dangallagher6176 a combination of eating a lot of whole foods such as whole grains, beans, green vegetables and nuts/seeds, , me being tiny (65-66 kg) while needing a lot of calories. With 3000+ kcal of while plant foods 150 g of protein come pretty much automatically, which throws me well above 2 g/kg/day, and during prolonged periods I eat close to 4000 kcal/day, so... And I don't think I need that much protein, but I totally need the energy and the above three groups of foods are naturally protein dense in terms of grams of protein per 100 calories.

    The title “How to Practice a Plant-Based Diet Correctly” implied that I might learn this, but was left with more questions and very few answers. For perspective, back in the 1980s-90 over a period of about 7 years I experimented with total plant based eating, mostly whole foods consisting of fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains and legumes and my health and especially my gut health suffered along with brain fog, low energy, and chronic joint pain. If plant-based is the answer then I was doing it wrong. Now in old age and being very low carb mainly animal based for 12 years now my overall health, energy, vitality has never been better. Twelve months ago I heard of several persons having excellent success eating only beef and water and when I experimented with this I also had excellent results finally overcoming the last remaining niggling gut issues. Please convince me that eating the muscle meat and accompanying fat of ruminant animals is NOT the species appropriate diet for humans.

      You believe that muscle meat and organs from ruminants, with very little else, is the species appropriate diet for humans? There is an incredibly large amount of evidence in the scientific literature that this simply is not true. For one thing, red meat intake is positively correlated with increased risk of all cause mortality, increased risk of cardiovascular disease, and increased risk of certain cancers. Whole plant food intake is correlated with the exact opposite in the literature, showing a decreased risk of all cause mortality and the diseases I mentioned previously. We know that individuals on plant focused diets tend to live longer and healthier lives than individuals on meat based diets. This is extremely well established in the human health outcomes data. The best available evidence that we currently have on human health and diet tells us very clearly that a whole plant food centered diet is ideal for human health.

    I want to go plantbased or even vegan but have to go carnivore to heal in order to go vegan, I have gluten and dairy intolerances histamine intolerance and sifo which is fungal overgrowth and so many veg and friut I cannot eat without triggering nightsweats, mucus from hell, blocked nose, insomnia, brainfog, aches and pain, etc Ive tried vegan, taw vegan, mcdougall etc, all problematic, I wish I could have a banana smoothie with greens but bananas are histamine liberators most greens are high in histamines and friuts feed the fungus, hopefully my gut can heal with the bone broths, carni diet and then reintrosuce veggies slowly.

      Carnivore can set you back even longer as it only masks your symptoms it does not really deal with the underlying problem. Go see a registered dietician.

    What about when someone absorbs a lot of oxalates. Plant based diet made everything worse for me.

      The simple answer is to reduce/avoid higher oxalate foods and also prioritize calcium-rich foods. For example, replace spinach or chard with collard greens or kale; replace almonds with hemp seeds; etc. But reality is always complex, eating plant based is not the same for everyone.

      Also cooking can remove up to 90% of the oxalates

      Been plant based for decades and never had problem with oxalates. Sprouting, fermenting, boiling, cooking etc, reduce oxalates and other inhibitors. Eat a variety and you won’t have that problem.

    Even better, DON’T. This is a load of rubbish. I went above and beyond what is suggested here and never felt worse. Added animal protein back and never been better. Not just subjectively, objectively as well. All blood markers at top levels. Plants are what food eats.

      But for me when I did meat based diet i felt worse and bloated and whey again become vegetarian I feel amazing and I avoid allergic foods like milk and nuts and I eat lots of fruits and vegetables and rice and sourdough bread and lactose free yogurt and cheese and ghee and kefir and butter

    No matter how bad your conversion rate is, some vegetables have a humongous amount of beta-carotene.

    Did our ancient ancestors have to " practice a plant based diet correctly?". No! They ate meat and whatever they could scavenge. And don't give me the bulshit argument they only lived till 30. There is a big difference between life expectancy and life span. Look it up.

      @TheProofWithSimonHill Interesting.... That's exactly what we are doing today. Killing people and drinking dirty, polluted water in the form of tap, bottled and other purifying methods. Water obviously is a living thing. When you damage it's energetic structure, that leads to disease. Look up structured water and learn something. I'm happy to debate you as I have written extensively on these subjects.

      ​​@@blsenterprise1our ancestors also didn't have supermarkets or the contamination, pollution and soil degradation potentially destroying nutrients. Planning nutrition adequately isn't exclusive to a plant based diet. Trying to mimic "ancestral" diets isn't optimal for human health today, it's a very different world. Ancestral diets were also very different depending on geography and climate etc. There's no one size fits all.
