Phil seems like a really great guy... just so down to earth and very passionate about his gear and craft. I appreciate that he is so willing to share everything about his rig with us!
Def Leppard is amazing and very fortunate to have each other as friends or I dont think their success would have went as far as it has. We still miss Steve, but Vivian has done an outstanding job and I'm sure Steve would give him the nod of approval if he were still with us. We wish Vivian and all the band members and road crew the best of health and luck!
Yeah. He seems like a cool guy. I don't think I have ever heard him speak before. I thought he would be some kind of older english rock guy who rambles on to much.
I was thinking the same thing 5 strings must have a lot of feed back.. got 3 in my H/S/S from 99 it's a squier with reverse head stock , No pickguard and purple metallic flake.. deleted tone knob for kill switch, Burnt chrome floyd rose and brass block, New tone know off a normal strat just colored the numbers with a sharpie ,pickup covers only because the stock sound is honestly the best tone I ever heard, 24 frets of madness couldn't as for a better guitar!! Phil has the same taste in guitars as me and I feel H/S/S setup is underrated as fuck!! He rocks keep it up
An absolute pleasure to spend time with this bloke on here - humble, talented, fascinating and a bona fide rock god. Fabulous video and a credit to his band(s)
Neil Schon is one seriously underrated/overlooked player. He's been 'ignored' for so long, merely because of the band/genre his is categorized in.....But the dude can PLAY! Not to mention, his live tone is friggin incredible.
"God Bless these Blues!!!" I'm always glad to see music with a good message. Great sound. Phil is a great guitarist, and the last to simply follow the crowd's standard, rather, he sets his own standard. Solid state power makes great sense if you can get a great sound out of it, and Phil does just that. I saw a rig rundown for ACDC, and they have a guy working full-time repairing their tube heads. For Phil to say, he blew a fuse once with his power head says multitudes. I really think solid state matched with a great platform makes great sense for a musician who is actually out playing a lot of shows. I have plenty of tube and solid state amps, but I find myself using the solid state more often than the tube amps even just playing a few shows. Lighter weight, they can take a beating, they have a consistent sound, no biasing worries, more dependable. What's more, I'd never leave my tube amps overnight on location, but were one of my solid state amps to get stolen, I'm not out as much money.
@@THUNDERWORX I appreciate your view point. I am poor, have had tube and solid state, not a lot of gear, because I'm not a rockstar. I bought a BOSS katana 50 last year after reading great reviews, and I must say I love it. Even though its Solid State they did a great job. It is sad, but having money is a factor for some of us when getting gear. BOSS hit a home run.
Thank you for the reply. Got 350 crate now And b52 head, I will admit I'm going to need a compressor and nose gate now lol. Hope to see you on road someday and at least you play live. I love playing the stuff you guys are doing
For the haters on here who didn't see the show live, Phil actually had the best tone IMHO. He was playing at the right volume with the right EQ on his sound so it fit great in the mix. JP had way too much bass in his sound, got flubby and competed with the other band members. Satch (and everyone in his band) also too loud and stepping on each other in frequency space.
Phil is a terrific player. I saw him on Hysteria and he blew me away. I didn't know he could do all that! And I also think it's cool he plays super strats with DiMarzio Tracks like the new Sugar Chakra. Rail pups have special characteristics you can't get otherwise, especially in single coil size. DiMarzio's Tracks totally smoke Duncan's Hot Rails. They offer more variety too.
Besides the disturbingly perfect figured top it really seems like a very responsive guitar. You don't always get the package deal, which is I think often why we see desirable-looking virtually new guitars on Reverb. Of course the right guitar has to find its way to the hands of the right player. 🎸 Just because it didn't click with the previous owner(s) doesn't mean it's not your soul mate. SRV got his #1 from a pawn shop I think.
Great to hear phil is a mac user and guitar rig 5 player... which i still think is the best sounding guitar amp sim ever made! I am surprised hes using solid state amps for live, but if it sounds good, why not!
This like the 14th time I've seen Phil show that splatter guitar (he was Pawn Stars once!) and the penny only just now dropped in the connection between why Phil chose a Pollock Jackson splatter technique to "individualize" some limited run Jackson guitars. "Jackson". A Pollock " Jackson " signature Jackson. Nice one, Phil.👍
Phil's tone sounds very good. In past years, recently, he's sounded very bright and shrill, to my ears. This is much improved. Those Blackstar's sound amazing!! It's a shame to see such beautiful guitars supported by those garbage Dunlop strap locks, though!! I would never trust my expensive, work-horse guitars to such an inferior product.
+RELAYER They aren't a great design. Simple physics works against them, and they have a tendency to release, unexpectedly. It happened to me, twice!! There are horror stories all over the 'net, check it out. Get yourself a set of Schallers and be done with it.
Gee whizz both Grover Jackson/Jackson have been VERY generous to Phil, but Phil has stayed extremely loyal to Jackson as well, as many guitarists/bassists switch. Phil could've selected any brand after 'Pyromania' but he chose Grover Jackson. Sixx, Paul Stanley but two. Love Phil for a range of reasons, playing [not a fan of his shredding], humble bloke who is self made/bit of luck too, and he is my personal/selfish last link for me to one of the greatest song writers, architect constructor of melodies, chords, riffs, bends and hook, and was a genuine rock star on stage in Steven Maynard 'The Riffmaster' Clark, his best mate Terror Twin who Phil says he thinks of EVERY single day, has sine 'Steamins' tragic passing. Saw him last week and he is the ultimate pro. May he play for another decade or more. Yes it's sorta weird seeing Phil not half naked with his ripped bod. He has a couple of Steve's guitars, and he also has one of his original LP Customs, I have no idea where his Ibanez Destroyer went as he had a black and a blue one, both triple pick ups.
Why don't DiMarzio modify the design of their pickup in order to prevent the E string catching under it, rather than requiring players to stick tape over it?
got some electrical tape on the end of his sustainer, must get his string caught under it. those 13's would probably rip a pickup out. i have petrucci's crunch lab and liquifiers on my PRS, i can pick out a dimarzio pickup in crowd. I had dimarzios humbuckers on a sg back in 77. didnt like the SG, kept the dimarzios
All his money and back up and he uses solid state. Valve amps are finished. Except for emperor new clothes types that try to convince you vinyl sounds better. Good video. Cheers
Umm, ok.... That why most Audiophiles still prefer Tube circuitry, 99% of the Boutique Amp designers use Tube topology, and the Audio industry has reported steadily-increasing sales of Turntables. But hey! Let's not let the facts stand in the way of your closed mind and lack of good hearing!
1970borntorun fair enough, I was wrong to say they are finished, there will always be people prepared to pay audiophile money, but it's interesting that someone like Phill who can afford the best of the best goes with solid state.
Who should we film with next?
Doug Aldrich, Joel Hoekstra, Reb Beach, Greg Howe, Richie Kotzen, Tracii Guns, Rob Marcello, Gus G, Andy Timmons,
George Lynch
Digital Tour Bus VICTOR WOOTEN
Larry Mitchell
Mark Tremonti

Glad you liked the video Barry!
How can someone not love Phil? So humble and still a rock star!!!
He's amazing!

Top bloke...very simple player that makes simple phrases and sounds, sound HUGE.! All round perfect guitar player..👌👍🤘🤘🤘🤘
Been listening to this guy since I've been alive. Some of my earliest memories of music is Def Leopard. Phil is a boss!
😀😀
Digital Tour Bus is there any chance you could get Pete Willis on this show
Pete Willis doesn’t play anymore does he?
Mister Tee I don't think he does. If he got asked to be on this or something else he might do it.
He finally bought a shirt after all these years. Thank you!!
Joely Barish 😂😂😂😂
It doesn't really fit though.
too small or not, I'm just glad our Phil is growing up
Yeah. He seems like a cool guy. I don't think I have ever heard him speak before. I thought he would be some kind of older english rock guy who rambles on to much.
hehe
Who else here can't stop watching his left ear flapping in the wind with that hoop earring?? Awesome vid! :-D
Now that you said it, I can't unsee.... NOOOOOO
Thanks for watching.
Wow, 13's!!
Lol, all 5 springs in the back cavity for the string tension......and a brass pick!?
My man, lol!

Phil is very humble nice down to earth man ... We know him from Fender in Corona CA.
Phil Collen is a cool dude and a great guitarist.
Couldn't agree more!
An absolute pleasure to spend time with this bloke on here - humble, talented, fascinating and a bona fide rock god. Fabulous video and a credit to his band(s)
More videos with Phil coming soon. 😀😀
I notice Def Leppard song lyrics are not pretentious but REAL.
Bad ass guitarist and such a cool guy to boot.I have seen him live with Def Leppard years back many times. Great video thanks.
So glad you enjoyed the video!
The knowledge and mastery is apparent.
Got to see ya guys last night ... it was my Bday present 🎉❤... tytyty for the great music 🎶
Dude Def Leppard and journey figures Phil and Schon are the big reasons I even play music !!!
Thanks for watching.
Neil Schon is one seriously underrated/overlooked player.

Well Done! Thank you Phil and Digital Tour Bus!
No problem!
Totally cool and modest guy. Amazing player! One of the guys I´d love to hang out with.
🤘🤘🤘
Great playing and Great tone with the blackstar.
I finally got to see Phil and def last year at carolina rebellion....killed it
Nice!!
Can't help but love Phil Collen. Thanks for the wicked video!
So glad you liked it. More videos with Phil coming soon, so make sure you subscribe. :)
Gotta love Phil.... Super cool guy...

Amazing player and a nice dude as well, more power
Very much so!

Great song at the end. What a lovely guy.

Super cool dude that rocks like no other. Great choice in guitars- my favorite. Rock on Phil!
He's great!
He is an inspiration!

Dammit - I would have LOVED seeing this tour
It was a great tour!
its amazing that over a few years, even local gigging bands can reduce their setups to ears and save a fortune
Jump to minute 12:00 amazing to hear Phil singing the blues!
Seemed like a great dude. Never really seen him interviewed before and the Delta Deep song sounded cool.
Very nice guy!

Whenever I'm feeling a little bit down, nothing cheers me up more than watching Phil Collen. Pretend he's a brilliant guitarist.

He's great
PHIL collen!!!!! Absolutely awesome!!!!!!!

Solid state amp, 13’s and a thick metal pick. 🤯
Wow! The Delta Deep Singer & Song Amazing!
😀😀
Ojo you are one of THE BEST GUITARRISTS IN THE WORLD
😀
This like the 14th time I've seen Phil show that splatter guitar (he was Pawn Stars once!) and the penny only just now dropped in the connection between why Phil chose a Pollock Jackson splatter technique to "individualize" some limited run Jackson guitars.
"Jackson".
A Pollock " Jackson " signature Jackson.
Nice one, Phil.👍
pretty cool, brass pick and 13's holy shit Phil rock the hell on!

Hi,might be dumb question but whats the difference if headstock bend to front or backwards? I mean does it affect sounds or something?
I'm not sure. Hopefully someone else in the comments can help you.
Man I can only hope to look and rock that good at 60
Everyone should be hoping for that, hehe!
You don't have to hope mate, just be a vegan, workout monster like Phil.
Those Black star amps sound fantastic. I'm glad to see that he isn't a tube amp snob.
Thanks for watching!
Don’t recognize him with a shirt on
haha
My GF talks about Phil's "No Shirt Onstage" look. I always tell her that if I wouldn't wear a shirt either if was in that kinda shape that Phil is in!
Better with a shirt, but still repulsive.
@@mbrown5494, he's a great guy and a very talented guitarist, no one cares what repulses you.
He is very humble 😄
Most definitely.
That’s how a rig tour should be done.
Really glad you liked this video. Hope you subscribe and check out more of our gear videos!
Digital Tour Bus . Yes, already have.
that Blackstar ID is the Sh#t!! awesome amp
😀
Why don't DiMarzio modify the design of their pickup in order to prevent the E string catching under it, rather than requiring players to stick tape over it?
Because they think that tape looks cool!
Not sure.
Never really thought about him being on the G3 tour. Not saying he isn't good but never really thought his style complimented Joe's.
That man is a legend!!
He certainly is! 😀😀
Brilliant
Glad you liked it!
13’s and metal picks! He is not messing around
💯
Whata great video.

"WOW... THANKS PHIL"!!
Thanks for watching.
Legend.!!!

gotta love Phil....geez he's a busy boy though!
Very very busy!
Que gran tipo phil, sencillo.
I like that DTB is just the artist talking who wants to hear the interviewer talk about the same shit every other interviewer does lol
Yup, that's the goal! Everyone else can put awkward interviewers on camera, not us. 😀
Great to know Phil uses one of the mini blackstar amps😂
Nice dude
Most definitely! 🤘
Easily the most successful band member from Genesis.
Bahaha.
Yeah, with slightly more hair!
Holy shit!!😂😂😂😂
THAT was FUNNY!!!😂😂😂😂
The blasphemy 😂
Lmao
His guitar work on adrenalize and pyromania was pretty good
Definitely!
Not often you see a guitarist who knows the actual specs of his gear " Cue: guitar tech " hey Fred, what strings do I use " ?
This is true for most musicians as successful as Phil is.
That strat tho ...
Thanks for watching.
Blues is mega!!!
Thanks for watching.

It would be about a 30 second video
This guy has a very personal way to play fast notes
Thanks for checking out the video.
Why do I hear people in forums saying: dont' use a Mac for live stuff.
As in a Mac laptop? I don’t know why anyone would say that. I’ve used a 2009 MacBook Pro laptop at every gig for 7 years. Hasn’t failed me once.
Not sure.
Whats the name of the song of 11:58?
11:26 DEBBIIIIIEEEEE!!
