I’ve been following your channel for years and it feels like a win for all of us that you got it back. Love the videos, can’t wait to see what you do with this one.
That's awesome. I tried my best to buy my high school truck from the dude that had it. He must have known who I was cuz about the fifth time seeing it, I started walking up to him and he yelled at about 100ft away. "It's not for sale!"
Sam, You can hear it in your voice - you’re so excited to have your FIRST TRUCK back. You’re proud of what you did to her - you remember all the good times you with her running back and forth to Wyoming - that shows if a man buys a truck and takes good care of it from the beginning it’ll last forever - You’re one lucky man! Do you know how many of us wish we could be in your shoes right now? Keep that truck in the family - it’s like winning the biggest lottery in history. Congrats!
Gotta say one of the best parts out of this entire video is the spare key screwed to the wall. Thats just as good as finding the truck for sale locally again.
Hey Sam, I remember you mentioning this truck several times on the channel. Congrats on getting it back. I bet you restore it's youth. I live in Canada. My first cars rusted away and turned to dust along time ago.
I bought my '97 new in August 1997 ( 3/4 ton 5speed manual long bed club cab Laramie slt). i have never regretted that decision! Just over 200k on the clock. the only thing I wish it had is the 4:10 gears. It does have a few mods on it. I live in Wyoming and grew up in Laramie. Congratulations on finding your old truck!
I certainly understand the nostalgia surrounding your first truck. Mine was a '70 Chevy with a blown engine I bought for $50. All the great memories of working on it with my buddies and the adventures we had are priceless to me now. Unfortunately, I live in the rust belt and the truck was in poor shape when I bought it. By the time I gave up on it, it was no longer safe to drive. Fun fact: The original owner had named it Fred and would only sell it if the next owner promised to call it Fred. That requirement was passed down from owner to owner. RIP Fred...
I’ve been following your channels for a while, all be it multiple accounts. I’m glad you found your first truck since you wanted it back. I’ve got my 2012 F-250 that’s my first truck. I’m never gonna sell it no matter what hard times come. Enjoyed the video Sam!
I managed to buy my first truck back too. Mine is a standard cab 95 12V long bed. I sold it to the gentleman that I bought it back from 19 years ago and he put about 80k miles on it in the meantime. Mine has a bit more work to be done to it but a worthy candidate for restoration nonetheless. I also had a similar issue with no start by the key but mine was a connection on the transmission wasn’t plugged in so still drivetrain related haha what a coincidence. Keep doing great work in keeping these trucks on the road.
Hell yeah Sam!!! Best VBelt & Son video of 2024 😎 I’ve been waiting for this from being a long time subscriber and I’m so happy for you because I know the feeling. In 2017 I sold my 01 single cab (my favorite truck ever) because of my stupid ex in order to buy a new truck with four doors. Next day I was sick to my stomach and I couldn’t believe what I had done, I told myself I would do whatever it took to get my truck back. 3 months later I was able to buy it back. It was tough having two truck payments but I made it happen by having a second job after my main job. I’ll never sell that truck ever again. It pulls all gooseneck trailers. Looking forward to seeing you restore it. Please keep the stock red bed on it, I like those red second gens with the chrome strip on the bottom. I’ll keep an eye out for a nice replacement. Congrats man!!!
Sweet to see. Just picked up my first truck this year. 98.5' 24v 3500, 5 speed 4wd with 400k on the dash. You're other videos about the Cali BS have me worried. I'm from Sacramento. But while I have my trans and transfer out doing my clutch and watching this... gosh I hope I never have to sell. :)
Talked to you the other day at NAPA and you told me about you buying this truck back. Good to see the video on it. Now it would be a candidate for a 24 valve P-pump conversion. Looking forward to more videos on this truck.
I don't usually leave comments on videos but, I just wanted to let you know that I've been following your channel for years sir. I really enjoyed seeing you get your old rig back, it brought back a lot of memories of my own trucks I've had over the years. I think a lot of us have experienced that overwhelming sensation of regret after selling one of our beloved vehicles, not many of us get an opportunity to mend that wound. Not long after I got out of the Army, I attempted to start my own "hot-shoting" business with my first ever ole 2nd gen. She was a 99 dually, far from my vision of my "holy grail" rig but, nonetheless, it still hurt to have to sell everything at the time. Fastforward a few years and a couple trucks later, I finally found her, my one owner 01 4x4 dually w/nv5600. I look forward to years of keeping this ole girl on the road and putting her to work when I can, and I can assure you, you'll never see this one on marketplace!
Bought my first truck, a 2000 6.8 v10 f250 a few months ago as a highschooler. After watching this video and reading the comments, ill be keeping this truck for a long time
This video was so cool that I had to watch it twice! That truck is meant to be yours Sam. It still looks nice and clean for it’s age with all those hard working miles it got on it.
So cool you still had the original key and never threw it away , congratulations! Some people have great love for there women and there dog and there trucks fall right in there too !
That’s a pretty cool story and video! Been watching your channel for a while now and it was cool to get some back history. You got pretty lucky it looks in pretty decent shape! Typical paint peel and a dented bedside. It’ll buff out. Im totally the same as you, I’ve always had a truck, my first vehicle was a truck. And although I’ve had like 40 something trucks over the years. I’ve got the best truck you can have, and that’s a 2002 24v HO 6 speed with literally no miles. It had 79,000 k on it when I bought it 9 years ago, and barely has 100k on it now. And I would never sell it. I’ve had people approach me in town, wanting to buy it, I turned down 35k cash one time, told the guy NO! I couldn’t replace it for any amount, even if someone gave me $100k it’s not gunna get me what I have. And that’s a pre Emissions 24v High output with a 6 speed manual! It’s the truck I’ll keep for ever. I thought I’d never sell my ‘06 mega cab 24v. But it was a smart Move cause just like you it open up a lot of doors, the money from the mega cab bought me a house and it bought my white ‘02 second gen. So it was a smart move to sell one nice truck and be able to buy another even better nicer truck and a house! I can’t think of any truck I wish I could go buy back and have again. The mega cab was an automatic so meh, I had a $9500 transmission in it. I almost manual swaped ir but got talked into building a stage 5 ATS trans. I guess I wish I could get back one of my 2wd first gens 12v manuals I had. I’ve had 6 of them, 2wd and 4wd, all of them manuals. Or maybe the little VW rabbit ‘caddy’ diesel truck I had. It even had the factory topper shell on it! It was so little and coool! A little vW truck. Non turbo diesel, the injection pump was even a Bosch ve rotary style pump! It was super clean, rust free, it was a nice for a 1984. It was baby blue. The thing for like 60 mpg of diesel.
Man that's awesome to find your old girl again! Just got my first 2nd Gen, 28yrs of waiting for one! Same color red, hope to find done good leads on parts and some hauling upgrades! Can't wait
Dude you have no idea how cool this is to see. Well…yeah you do. Haha. Been following since the very beginning and been hearing you talk about this truck for so many years. Congrats brother, you deserve it!
I had a 1991 Mustang GT 5.0 red, 5spd as a senior in high school that I bought on my own. I would buy that car back in a heartbeat, but like your buddies Toyota I’m sure it’s absolutely destroyed. Changed the oil every 3,000 miles it was loved!!! I hit a deer at 110mph, went through more back tires than I can count, the memories over 4 years in that car were amazing.
Man it’s real funny that I found this channel this week. Been watching your videos for the last few days because I just bought a 96 black extended cab long bed auto truck. Sounds exactly like how this truck was before it was red. Funniest part is you bought this one when you were 19, and I just bought my first 12v at 19. Really looking forward to seeing this truck come back to glory along side mine.
I actually have a green Dodge truck stepside push button automatic. I would have to guess but maybe 65. The cool thing was at High School skyline we had a downhill and if the battery was dead truck transmission had a rear pump downhill hit the push button automatic and actually bumped Start. I have too many cars now currently for jeeps Cherokee and grand Cherokee, which are a lot of fun and three newer trucks all ram. That stepside, though with the push button automatic was one of a kind.
If you have AAA insurance full coverage. They will come out and replace your front windshield for $100 deductible. They use Safelite and they get a super deal from Safelite. I’m sure other insurance companies follow the same procedure.
I had an amazing 2000 2500 24 valve Cummins with a 5 speed manual transmission and I was about to paint it when I fell asleep coming back home and drove it off the side of a mountain I wanted to buy it back from the insurance company but my parents would not let me. If I could, one day I would buy it back and restore it to its former glory.
I'm on my second 2001 Dodge 2500 turbo diesel, 5 speed manual transmission, 4wd, 8 ft. bed. Both of them were used when I got them. The second one I just purchased it in December of 2022. Both trucks came from Montana. I really like it but would rather have something newer. Mine needs a paint job but that's about it. The interior is in really good condition with hardly any ware and no rips on the seat. No stains either.
Great story!! Not that long ago I just bought my first vehicle. It’s a 2005 ram 3500 G56 lifted old oilfield truck it’s been a family friends truck for years. And still running with 1.4 million kilometres on it.
I did this with a Jeep once. Instantly regretted selling it, 3yrs later they gave me a call to see if I’d buy it back. Nothing had changed, they just drove it and maintained it. Felt like a time capsule.
This video is like a dream. I wish I could buy my first truck back but it’s probably been melted into a fine ingot of American muscle by now. Sold it years ago with high mileage
I’m glad we both made appreciate the truck the same. Both got some damn good use out of it and a bunch of stories. I told myself I wouldn’t start fixing it up right off the bat but I have parts on order 😂 stay in touch
On my old 1993 I interrupted the clutch pedal switch. Ran the wires behind the drivers seat belt cassette with a toggle switch. That truck wouldn’t start with the switch in the off position. Truck is still going strong. It’s owned by my son’s and now my friend.
Watching this makes me want to buy my first truck back it’s a 2000 ram 2500 auto it was a perfect daily and I have plans for it now that I know these trucks more and more so glad to hear you got your first truck back congratulations brother!
Glad you found your 1st truck. I'm a dodge guy too. still got my 1996 2nd gen 1500 I got when I was 18 also still have my 2003 dodge 1500 I got when I was 19. My daily driver is a 2016 ram 2500 hemi. Hope to get a diesel one day.
I feel ya, i bought my 95 eddie baure f150 twice. Grand total i have owned my truck for 18 years.its got the factory f lsd diff front amd rear, tow package, manuel trans ( now a zf5) and makin 350hp (round up a bit) from a 302 sbf.
Not a dodge guy but, I am in the process of sending my first truck to scrap. I got it around the same age you purchased this truck. Had it 13 years now. I do wish it was in better condition so I could make the case for keeping it. But, I have another project vehicle and a toddler. I don't have time to rebuild a rusted out truck that needs a new engine.
Man it's great seeing the OG back on the channel i say clean her up new paint job power running boards clean and reupholster the interior some basic maintenance and make it a daily driver again
My first rig was an 88 ranger that made maybe 140 horsepower so heck no I never want to see that again. I understand why you wanted that rig back, 12 valves are special! I enjoyed the video!
Very cool Sam! Congrats I still keep an eye out for my 78 Chevy I put a 396 in out of a 67 SS Camaro with 4spd Still had half ton axles and I never had time to grease the u joints before they broke or wore out when I was having fun with 35’s!
Good find! Yes i would like to have all my old pickups back. I would also like my Dad's 83 k5, My Grandpa's 72 f150 ranger and My uncle's 93 z71 that he bought from Dad.
I've got my dad's old 97 dually 12v, he bought new. Also got a '07.5 manual drw. Do I need them both? No. But I would never forgive myself if I sold them. I didn't know you ride dirt bike too! Awesome.
I bought a new Dodge 2500 4x4 standard cab 5.9 12 valve with 5 speed manual and manual 4x4 and locking hubs. Yelp your right I sold it and still to today I would like ya have it back but Iam sure it is a bucket of rust ,
I have an absolute mint condition lond bed box with tailgate, lights, bumper. Here in Utah zero rust! Hit me up if you’re interested. It’s white, coming of a truck with 92k on the odometer.
GREAT STORY ...Same thing happened to me! Been tryin over 5yrs to buy back. Noticed it within minutes of it listed on OfferUp. Its 1992 reg cab chevy tonneau cover. Cammed all mechanical ran thru new everything 700r4 upgraded rebuilt corvette servos . Guy used it as a work truck 70k miles guy used it and mixed (dex-cool) mixed with green antifreeze 😡 and got rid of the trans for a junkyard no 3-4 gear. Bought it back half price after saying im getting half a truck back. So $1200 and its moving my trailers around yard til i get trans rebuilt. I am in the 209 and it still passes smog even with the crane cam.
I've got a set of OEM 2006 Ram 3500 hubcaps, wheels and Maxxis 35"x12.5"x17" tires, plus a brush guard and slightly dented PS2 Silver tailgate listed on Craigs List for sale. (Not to mention a refreshed 1996 12 valve long block w/brand new head, 60lb springs and a rebuilt 841 P-pump, with the ECM out of the truck the engine came out of)
Iv got a 97 single cab 5 speed with 410s your right is tached out at like 80 it was my grandpa's i got it back in 02 when he passed away I think its got like 158k on it now it definitely needs a transfer case tho
@@VBELTandSON the truck is probably to old to get oem. But Lmc truck and a couple other companies like it sell aftermarket ones. Also I would check with Keystone. On rare occasions we have used, used ones you just have to take your time drilling the spot welds then you can use the holes for plug welds putting it back on.
As long as I've worked in the Auto Boddy and products distribution business, Maaco was one of the worst as far as quality, hence the cheaper prices. Prep was always the biggest problem. And that was decades ago.
I’ve always wanted my 78 Macho Power Wagon back but I have no idea where it’s at. My 99 Ram Sport short bed reg cab 4x4 broke her back and was sold for scrap. I had that truck for 19 yrs. Now I’m stuck driving a little 2011 Ford Ranger . I miss my Dodges☹️
This truck was on the trailer as the thumbnail on your previous video and I should’ve known better that that was it. The red second gen with the front bumper and the headache rack was an absolute giveaway but it never dawned on me 🤦🏼♂️
How much did you pay for this old truck? I’m curious I’m looking to get one right now wondering what they go for let me know brother thank you. Glad you got your truck back.
Hello I thought I would share My story. I dont have the same truck and I don't plan on selling my truck. I own a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad cab 1500 2wd short bed with the 5.9 motor I Purchased it 1/2010 it is now going on 15 years. It had 142.200 on it when I purchased it now 15 later it has 177.00 on it that 35 thousand miles not much mileage in 15 years. My trans is getting weak but other than that it's a good truck..
I’m about to pick up my newly acquired 98 12v 5 speed truck. Now off the top of my head I don’t know much about it. I know it’s got 841k miles and the owner still drives it from time to time. We worked out a deal and I’m gonna get it this weekend or early next weekend. What front end parts have you had good luck with? Of course I’d like thuren or synergy but I’d rather not put that kindve money in a truck with that kindve miles until I know it’s going to last for sure. Any input would be appreciated man I love watching the videos and your opinion would be one I’d think highly of.
I had a 68 Chevy C-10 that I bought. Did some work on. Needed a lot of body work. Looked good from a distance. Sold it when my ex-wife was pregnant with our son. A few years later, a friend found it on Facebook marketplace. Got a hold of the guy and was gonna buy it. He said he had a guy coming to look at it. Figured it was sold. Guy got a hold of me saying that guy passed on it. So I went to the bank and pulled out his asking price. Was almost to my dads house to grab a trailer when the guy told me the other guy changed his mind and was coming back. I told him I wasn't coming to look at it. That I was on the way to pick it up. He told me he wasn't gonna hold it for me. So it got sold out from under me.
That reminds me of my truck when she used to be my dad's truck and 02 Dodge 6 speed with 31000 that truck has been everywhere hauled everything my father gave it to me and I'm planning on fixing it up it's going to be a little bit
As a young 19 year old trying to figure out what to do in life, would you say WyoTech is worth it to learn how to work on, fix, and do preventative maintenance on trucks and cars? I am a resident of the state already and I want to hop into the automotive world to one day build my own custom trucks that will run for as long as I live.
Love you content so much I wanted to cry like a baby bc my step dad took my truck from me and wont teach me how to drive it or anything I try to get a buddy to help me put brakes on and he got mad so now I want to get me a new truck so he csnt boss me about it
I’ve been following your channel for years and it feels like a win for all of us that you got it back. Love the videos, can’t wait to see what you do with this one.
With you taking care of it, I can see that truck being a great 16th birthday present for Callaghan. Congratulations Sam.
That's awesome. I tried my best to buy my high school truck from the dude that had it. He must have known who I was cuz about the fifth time seeing it, I started walking up to him and he yelled at about 100ft away. "It's not for sale!"

I loved that truck made me a lot of money and delivered about a thousand cord of wood. Glad your happy about getting it back
I’m glad we both made appreciate the truck the same. Both got some damn good use out of it and a bunch of stories.
I told myself I wouldn’t start fixing it up right off the bat but I have parts on order 😂 stay in touch
A truck that served it job very well it’s whole life
Awesome Sam!!! My first truck was a 95 dodge 12v 5 speed 4x4. Regular cab longbed loved that thing. Wish I could find her again
It's almost full circle! The blue machine, the stump grinder and Tiger! It's a throwback to your beginnings.
I remember you talking about this thing years ago, absolutely crazy you got it back congrats man
Glad you found your 1st truck.
I am very excited for you Sam. Stay blessed brother!
My first rig was an 88 ranger that made maybe 140 horsepower so heck no I never want to see that again. I understand why you wanted that rig back, 12 valves are special! I enjoyed the video!
I’m glad you got it back!!
That’s great man! I’d love to find my old 95 Ram. I felt the same way when I sold it.
Very cool Sam! Congrats
I still keep an eye out for my 78 Chevy I put a 396 in out of a 67 SS Camaro with 4spd
Still had half ton axles and I never had time to grease the u joints before they broke or wore out when I was having fun with 35’s!
It's amazing how much work someone will do to fix a 30 second problem
If you don’t know you don’t know. I’m glad it was simple fix
Awesome.
That’s inspirational man I’m never selling my third gen my kids are growing up in it
Man thats awesome you found your old cummims 😎 Can't wait to see it restored.
Awesome my first truck was 1979 ramcharger!! Miss that girl
Makes me want to buy my 97’ QClb back ! Great trucks but not much room for car seats
This is an amazing story! Love it❤
Sam you couldn't make this story up enjoy keep living your dream 👍😎👍
Even the OG key! Amazing story!
I bought a new Dodge 2500 4x4 standard cab 5.9 12 valve with 5 speed manual and manual 4x4 and locking hubs. Yelp your right I sold it and still to today I would like ya have it back but Iam sure it is a bucket of rust ,
That’s so cool Sam ! Congratulations buddy 😊🙌🏻
Never thought I’d see this truck again! Glad to have it back
Man I’m jealous, I hope to do this one day with my first truck
Congrats man that’s a dream many of us will never see. But yeah I Wish.
Congratulations! We gonna see a full frame off restoration!?!?!?!?
Time to restore it to its natural glory! 👍
Thats great you got it back. I'd put it back to black.
Looking forward the videos of u fixing it up 👍
Happy for you Buddy !
Should build one of those second gens into a twister rig
I've got a white long bed off a 95 sitting in my yard. Southern Oregon
I've got a set of OEM 2006 Ram 3500 hubcaps, wheels and Maxxis 35"x12.5"x17" tires, plus a brush guard and slightly dented PS2 Silver tailgate listed on Craigs List for sale.
(Not to mention a refreshed 1996 12 valve long block w/brand new head, 60lb springs and a rebuilt 841 P-pump, with the ECM out of the truck the engine came out of)
A man and his truck is just a modern day cowboy with his horse.
Iv got a 97 single cab 5 speed with 410s your right is tached out at like 80 it was my grandpa's i got it back in 02 when he passed away I think its got like 158k on it now it definitely needs a transfer case tho
Great story.
Sweet truck
It is not that difficult to replace the outer bedside. Its just spot welds. We replace them frequently at work.
Where do you order the sides from?
@@VBELTandSON the truck is probably to old to get oem. But Lmc truck and a couple other companies like it sell aftermarket ones. Also I would check with Keystone. On rare occasions we have used, used ones you just have to take your time drilling the spot welds then you can use the holes for plug welds putting it back on.
Dang that’s what I figured would be the case. I’m on the look out for a clean bed at the moment
Still have my 1997 5spd 4wd LWB I bought in 2008
Almost enough 2nd gens for every day of the week!
Pretty dang cool.
There's a company that sells all aluminum dashes for those trucks now
Heck yeah brother 👍🏻🇺🇸
The days when Craigslist was the shit lol I feel old now
That reminds me of my truck when she used to be my dad's truck and 02 Dodge 6 speed with 31000 that truck has been everywhere hauled everything my father gave it to me and I'm planning on fixing it up it's going to be a little bit
Pretty freaking cool
I’m here for it
As a young 19 year old trying to figure out what to do in life, would you say WyoTech is worth it to learn how to work on, fix, and do preventative maintenance on trucks and cars? I am a resident of the state already and I want to hop into the automotive world to one day build my own custom trucks that will run for as long as I live.
Love you content so much I wanted to cry like a baby bc my step dad took my truck from me and wont teach me how to drive it or anything I try to get a buddy to help me put brakes on and he got mad so now I want to get me a new truck so he csnt boss me about it
My first truck was a 1993 Ford F150 and I wish I would have never sold it
Is it going to be Callahan's truck???? 🤔🤔🤔 You have to keep it in the family now
