I have had African violets for years. This year I started watering them with water I boiled eggs in. They just took off and bloomed profusely and grew fast. I use that water for all my plants when I have it. love your videos.
Hello
I just love ALL your videos, I have an African Violet for two years now. It has stopped blooming. I’m bummed. But the leaves look good. Is there something I should be doing?

I saw something on pinterest on making a tea of egg shells and water and straining it after a week or so...a little coffee....a little banana maybe. Now Im not familiar enough with what these flowers specifically need....in fact I know nothing...LOL But you reminded me of that article. I tried it on other plants and it worked well.
I'm 9 I've planned a cantaloupe from the seed oranges apples plum peaches
Awesome!! Keep it up!!
Great!!!
That's how it starts.Congratulations
Yummy! Good luck with your plant babies!
I am reading now and you are twelve now ;)
I love the mold potting tip. I've been planting for 45 years and have never heard this. It's great! Love your videos. I watch each new one.
I've been repotting my African violets using a wicking system where they end up sitting on top of a jar of water always. The single piece of yarn from the reservoir and up to about the middle of the potting soil, keeps them watered always and without compacting the soil. Works wonderfully. I learned it from watching the Gray Turtle African violet channel.
I do that too. I started doing that years before the Internet. Works great. I only use cotton yarn. Are you using acrylic? I was told that it wouldn't work. Perhaps it will.
@@caroleneuok5890
I use acrylic yarn, same as Gray Turtle lady. It works well. Since wick watering and a couple of grow lights, my violets are growing and blooming much better. I use Schultz AF food also.
Never had any luck with plants. Always said the only gardening group I could belong to is Wilt & Kill. Now I have a beautiful Violet and want to keep it alive and beautiful. This video is great. Thank you so much for all the information
This is funny...I always tell people that I killed all my indoor plants and can vouch for that in my 66 years...Because of covid19, we are not allowed to have indoor parties...one of my sister-in law gifted me an orchid for my birthday last year (2021)..It is still alive after 4 months, so I bought a total of 14 more orchid plants...I'm happy to say at this time Jan.2022, they are all surviving...
Keep trying.
Nice instructable! Two tips to avoid leaf breakage, 1. wait until your AF is on the dry side, which makes the leaves a bit limp and less likely to snap off during transplanting. 2. Use a spoon in tight re-potting to place the soil beneath the leaves avoid too much of a mess. You can also use the spoon to tamp down the soil a bit, fingers can be clumsy! Happy Planting! 🌸🌱
I'm glad I watched the video and glad I read your remark. I'm about to do this and the pointers will be of help. Thanks. 😉
@@daleandrews3552 Thank you Dale, for the sweet comment! Ironically ...I just reported some of my violets today, but should have waited a bit longer bc one if them waa still chock full of water which meant clumsy me snapped off a few leaves by accident. 🌱😂🌱 Should have let it dry out a bit!
Good luck with your transplantation! 🍀
I wish I was a better Gardener. I love watching your videos it gives a sense of gardening without me actually killing a bunch of plants. I've always wanted a green thumb. haha
Good tips, especially molding the dirt first to ease in the plant. Very cool!
I love the love and care toward your violets. You can tell by the way you speak of them and care of them.
The favorite nursery I worked at was a 20 acre a nursery growing African Violets. Every day was a treat as the colors we always changing as plants were sold and new plants started to flower. We had 20 different varieties that were sold regularly as well as small batches of specialty Violets. We had our own breading program and many of the varieties were patented. It is sad that the nursery went out of business because the owners decided they could make more money selling the land then continuing to produce plants.
😮 that sounds like it was a dream-job… sad they closed.
Love the decorative aspect of this video, something I don't normally see in informative plant videos. The addition of the eucalyptus was lovely, thanks so much for a great video!
Really loved this video, thank you for making one on African Violets. Please do make a follow up one on their care too.
Yes!!! so happy. MY AFRICAN VIOLET has 3 weeks with me. Im glad you made a video.
An African Violet was the first houseplant that got me really interested. I didn't know anything about them when my father-in-law gave me one for Mother's Day. I tend to use a different system though. When I re-pot mine I press the outermost edge of soil down just a little bit lower than the plant. When I water it I just fill up the "moat" with water mixed with fertilizer. All but one of them stays in continous bloom. I love that you did a video on these!
I love using violet pots for them, I like the ones that are more bulb like instead of straight. I have the best luck with these and I have one violet every big as that big one on the table. I never empty the water after a hour though so didn't know that! I love your videos!
Moulding the soil in the pot first is a great idea! Also estimating the size of pot needed is a great tip. Also using the dome to help with transplanting shock is something I will be trying.
Thank you so much for sharing this awesome planting advice. I love the white warming house you put them in and the bell jar, that's really neat. I love putting things under glass.
African Violates always seem to grow much happier when planted together in my experience. I always talk to them every morning! I give them lots of love and I really believe that helps them grow. They are such beautiful velvety creatures...I love them. Thank you again!
You're just lovely. I enjoy and learn from your videos and appreciate that there is no musical intro or background music. Thank you. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍🏼
I know this video was made a year and a half ago, but I just bought my first 2 African violet plants and you're my go-to source for anything plant and garden related
“Mold potting”. Awesome tip. I am learning so many great gardening tricks and tips from you. Thank you.
Great video - thank you so much. After a few years of taking care of my DH who has passed - I am back to having fun with my plants in the house and the African violets I love. I have 3 small ones that are in need of some of my attention. This helped me a bunch. THANKS!
I love your video here. Very informative and you speak well and effectively. I see where I've made my mistakes with African Violets and can't wait to try again.
Thank you. I have never come upon videos of care for African Violets. My mom started me collecting them when I was 16 and I have lost a lot from not transplanting properly. TY!! For your VAST amount of knowledge.
I have African violet pots also.
I didn’t know to empty water after an hour. My grandfather had such success with violets not me. Can’t wait to try this. Thanks for advice can’t wait to try!
I love African Violets. Mine are always blooming or producing new buds, so it's nice to always have flowers. I never knew they didn't like to stay wet. I've always just kept them in the plastic pots and set them in a fully glazed pot that I pour water into once a week so they are watered from the bottom. Good to also learn they like shallow pots. I really like that last pot your showed.
Precise instructions with the actual plants and tools, I gathered the basic, and yet, quite useful ways to care my new pet, African Violet, thank you!
Thanks much… My big takeaway from this video is keeping in mind pot depth requirements… makes a lot of sense about getting shallower pots for certain plants to avoid root rot… always learning, 🙏🐸
I LOVE African violets!! I purchased two plants about 3 years ago!! I propagated a leaf from each plant and potted the two leaves directly in soil!! They each sprouted 3 babies each so I ended up with 8 African violets!!🥰
I got excited with how the leaves had babies and, so I ended up propagating a few more leaves and now I have 25 African violets lol!!❤️😂
Great presentation. Easy to watch but mostly to understand ! Thank you.
amazing thanks so much just brought my African violet back to life ! by trimming the leaves and watering from the bottem and placing in bright indirect sunlight.
Love this. I’m ready for the next video. I had some years ago so I needed a refresher. Keep doing what you’re doing. Great useful info and pleasant delivery. I’ll be watching more!🪴
I loved your video on African Violets....I have a few and now I know what I should have been doing. Thanks so much for your help
I love your attitude and presentation. You talk real good.
Thank you for this video- I will watch it multiple times, as I only have 2 Violet plants now, but both need repotted. Your info is great & I love the tone of your voice (it has love in it for your violets 😊)
I had never tried to raise African violets until a friend gave me one she had propagated from a plant her mother-in-law had given her before her death probably 40 years prior. It is a beautiful ruffled leaf and blossom in a deep pink. I have the original plant and also have propagated probably at least ten more and shared them with friends and family. They almost all the time and so for disease free. I loved the molded method you shared, thanks. I will definitely try it.
I loved your video and especially the bell jar and little green house for decorating purposes. Very nice!
I have always put pieces from other broken terracotta pots in the bottom and I water my plants from the bottom. Love the tenting advice! I have given so many away and now I got to go buy some more terracotta pots. My violets get morning sun filtered through lace curtains. I like the idea of putting more than one to a pot.
Love it ...thank you ! found this so helpful.Im bleaching and repotting right now! .My violets are from starts of my darling sister in law whom has passed away much to young and it keep them in my kitchen window becuase they make me feel her so\pirit when i look at them
Thank you Laura. One of the best videos about African Violets on youtube.
Very simple techniques, however the tips about planting carefully were of course important specially enclosing the plant so it get more humidity and temperature to flourish, thanks for the video.
My mother loved African violets. her always grew and flowered like crazy. each year she demanded we insert a rusty nail into and right beside the root ball. I do this to this day. Not sure if you have heard of this before - but it would make her flowers bloom profusely. About a 1/2 inch rusted finish nail.
Love your videos - very informative. You are such a sweet, kind lady it makes watching your videos even more pleasant.
Thanks for all the info. Your violet care is very much as I have grown violets for 40 years. I had 1 very large violet, similar to the 1 on your counter until my son came sliding down the banister & knocked it of my plant stand, breaking it off at the crown. My son survived the mishap but unfortunately the violet didn't.
I had more than a dozen of violets from my collection and I was used to create figèrent colours by starting to plant 2 different colour leaves together and they will have 2 different plants with different colours often two colours together. It was big fun for me.you should try it. I discovered it by accident
Good morning, loved the show, thank you for sharing the knowledge and showing how to re-pot them. The plants are really healthy and strong. Enjoy, a beautiful houseplant that is not such a favourite plant anymore, yet it never loses it's charm. Go well, kind regards.
Hi Im from Australia and have just discovered yr feed. I am loving all of yr instructional vids'...
With violets we use a wick water system.
Placing the wick through the drain hole into water in the bottom of the support pot underneath.
Love yr work and thank you for all that you have shared. 💜🧡💚💛💙
Great video and helpful tips! Thank you for sharing :) African violets are my favourite flowers and I have pots of them pretty much in every room of the apartment. They very often need repotting though because we have two cats that love to knock things over lol. Terracotta pots are always my first choice too. A huge mistake that I use to make when I first had violets was getting water on the leaves. After learning the DO's and DON'T's of caring for them they really do bloom beautifully 🌼🌺🌼🌺
Beautiful violets and how you displayed!
The "Wick Watering" process for African Violets is one style, I find helpful. Also VERY handy are plain plastic spoons to gently work around /or push down the soil under the AV leaves. Works great as opposed to my clumsy fingers. Bulb syringe watering IS MY GO-TO for watering my succulents @ AV. !!! Thnx for reading. My old fashioned style's work well.
Ive noticed everyone wants to be a plant expert. I believe this is how its done well it works for me. :)...
You are the only one I see that knows what theyre talking about, Ive learned alot from you. Good for you !👍
I'd love to see a tour of your house plants.
Yes I agree ⭐
That huge one on the left is amazing.
Aw I love how she talks about them
Thank you for this video. I have a nice deep purple African violet I am thinking of repotting and your video was quite helpful. My violet is currently in a glazed pot. When I brought it home, I carefully drilled a hole in the bottom for drainage. Your vedio has helped me choose a better pot.
As an aside, I have a fish tank and when I change the water, I use the "old" water to water my plants.
Mold Potting, I have never seen that done before. Genius!!!
Great instructions, I learn a lot, I will change all my pot today.
I am glad I found your video. I now know the best ways to take care of my new plant.
Thank you so much. I used to have African Violets. And had a photo of my perfect prize plant. Maybe this year, I’ll get some. Happy new year.
Really good information. Thank you for creating the video.
Thank you so much - this was a really well presented video: great information without a bunch of filler! I learned a lot!
Thank you for your thorough care guide and tips 💚
AMAZING VIDEO! your instructions were amazing and my violets are doing amazing with this method. Works even better than the others!
Great information about pot size. I did not know that. I'm needing to remove suckers and pot.
Great information. Thanks for sharing. I've always loved African violets but I didn't have much success with them, now I understand why..
Thank you for sharing Africa violets I love the dark purple
Thank you so much for this information. I love African Violets!
Thankyou for this video! So informative and you cover everything I had any concerns about!
5.08. I really like the zip idea on the compost sack! I haven't seen that before.
OMG!!! Thanks a mil for posting this video! I think I am going to watch it a couple more times just to make sure that my African Violets don't hate me anymore!!! :(
It isn't the water that burns the leave but direct light on the leave while it is wet. I bath my violets with a sprayer with warm water just make sure the plant is dry before putting it back in sun.
Connie taylor It depends on wind and humidity of your climate. I live in a very humid climate, and water tends to pool on the leaves for days, which increases the chance of bacterial growth(happens very often). So I avoid wetting their leaves :)
I mist my violets all the time and never had them burn. I was recommended to mist them by the nursery owner I bought them from. I also keep them indoors though.
Awesome! My sister had a beautiful African violet delivered to the hospital after my 1st child was born. Needless to say, the plant died within a few mos. 😂 I decided to give it another try w/ 2 plants a cpl yrs ago. I love the look of terra cotta as well & discovered on my own how much plants love them! Note: place a liner under terra cotta plates because mold will grow.
Great video, sometimes my African Violets start out as one and all of a sudden there is two growing side by side months later, not sure how that happens. Love your ideas
deezie
What a nice surprise to get a video on African Violets. I have several of them and it's always great to get some additional information on this plant. Thanks Laura. :)

👍🏻
Really, really good video. very informative and professional. thank you!
I’m repotting my African violet thanks this video was helpful
Great video...love the idea of mold potting...so cool!...Thanx for your vital info! Happy Gardening!..:-)
The best advice . Thank you
Thank you so much for all the great information 💖
Thank you for the video. It was very helpful!
I love all your videos. It's so inspiring =) If I may suggest a topic, I would love to see a Christmas Cactus video.
That would be a very good one as they can be very difficult to get to bloom.
Very nice and informative....very clear Thanks
Excellent video. Succinct and right to the point. Thank you. 💜
They are beautiful. I can remember a friend of my mother having a bunch of these . They were so pretty. I tried one once but didnt know enough for success. Of course the leaves rotted and it died. But now....wahlah....we have you tube...LOL
love this video, I will try the tenting and see how it goes. I also like the cleaning of the pots with a bleach solution. Since the pots are bacteria free I would not water the plants by filling the kitchen sink and soaking them there. The kitchen sink is a potential breeding ground for bacteria. thank you!
Really enjoyed watching this. I learnt a lot.
Thanks for delivering it.

My violet wont bloom. Its big and beautiful but no blooms
