no need to break anything, once you get the grill off just grip the lock barrel and turn to the left then the right. the cable inside will do the work.
Successfully did it on my 2008 Focus! Pay close attention to where the creator inserts the screwdriver to pop the grille off - is quite difficult otherwise. Also be careful of where your fingers are when getting the lock itself out, I ended up pinching my finger between the bowden cable and the bottom of the grille. Smashing the white plastic bit off is quite a task, I ended up using the screwdriver as a sort of a chisel. The whole thing took me about an hour and a half, I also ended up damaging the paint on my bumper a bit, though I'm pretty sure many of you are more careful than I am - many thanks for making this video!
Brilliant! Thank you. Prising those press clips blind was only possible because you'd pointed it out. I wouldn't have tried pulling out the grill if you hadn't shown it. The rest was easy. THANK YOU!
trusted what you said on the video and although i managed to break a piece off the plastic attached to the grill when pulling it out, it went perfectly with a replacement lock i bought for £20 on ebay. you saved me a ton of mmoney. cheers
Thanks for the video. My second lock just failed and the old trick of pushing on the with plastic and turning key didn't work this time so your video was very helpful in getting in to my bonnet. Thanks!
Thank you for this video, this helped me get my sisters car repaired. The replacement part was absolutely awful though, so a bit of modification was required... Had to superglue the plastic "+" shaped spur on the end of the cable into the plastic "+" receiver inside the mechanism that holds the bonnet latch, otherwise it kept slipping out and the key would no longer work.
Thanks this video maker . Really this video was helpful and we opened it so easy . Just who ever designed this did not have any clue of cars maybe fired from safe box company
Thank you for this video, I was stuck at getting the gille off, didn't want to break the car, but watched your video and how you just yanked it out. I just went for it and it come out. Now I'm just ordering a new lock. These cars are rubbish lol!
Great video. My 2010 bonnet has just given up this week. It dose tend to warn you as the mechanism becomes more difficult before it goes completely. I understand the mechanism was supposed to prevent would be thieves from opening the bonnet but this idea back fired on the proper owner 😳 I've ordered a new lach and cable. I've had my focus from 2011 and it's the first time this has happened.
If you are watching this ...also first watch another vid on YT from Chris Burton. He does it without hammering & breaking stuff and it only takes about 90mins. Try that first, but thanks also for this vid..all trying to help us.
6:06 - I'd really like to know more about these two push clips. I'm currently researching to do this fix myself, and I'm unclear on how these clips or screws should be removed. Any advice greatly appreciated. thanks
Very useful but too complicated for me. The garage mechanic opened it without tools but by vigorously pushing with both hands then left right with the key. This is now being replaced and I hope it lasts as long as the original 18 years.
If you don't want a 2 x key car. many Ebay kits sell a customiseable key tumbler you can build for your existing key. Also, I didn't half wince on watching you use bare metal screwdrivers against that nice shiny paintwork under the grill!
Thanks mate, But you did not tell that there are 4 screws (pins) above the grill. The middle ones making the job difficult. I did it but after 50yrs playing with cars!
By sheer luck put the screwdriver in to try and force it out and the bonnet opened! Have now removed it and your driver trick works a charm, really needed this because my battery was flat too, all well now, thank you very much.
@@kevinhunter8393 I had the same issue, using a plier works but it took me a good 30 mins of yanking 😂 had to squeeze the clips at the end in so it could be pulled out.
Neale H Hey I’m struggling with the hammering the plastic bit out. What did u do? Scared to break something. I see the vid jumps from old key unit to just cable and it’s out in no time
Finally got round to doing this. I'd say it was a little more difficult than a 4 🤣🤣 My grill deffo didn't come off as easy as yours in this video and I broke the cold air intake which I could glue and tape and put it back on and it's good. Hopefully I don't ever have to do that again. 💪💪💪
Hi I m currently having this problem could you please tell me which locking kit you got as my car is the same car but I've heard there is 2 different kits I dont want to purchase the wrong one thanks
@@mohammedsaif9192 maybe check with a camera if yours has any tabs behind it. Could be you need to twist it with the key then push it out. But I'm not sure. If yours is a different year maybe they changed it a little bit. Also try popping it out with a screw driver from the back by pushing against the cable
No no no no, no need to smash any thing off, it can all be removed from under the bonnet, and pulled into the engine bay. At least it can on my UK 2011 1.6 diesel model.
Done this but the new part only lasted 4 years which is really a crap design so have to do it again at least I know have to do it just needed a refresher 😁😁
If I buy a replacement for a 2015 model, will it work for my 2006 ford focus model? It should be obvious but I found one that says it works for 2004 up to 2015 models. I dont want to buy it and it not work. Thanks!
you spent more money than you should have and you can keep the original lock without breaking it swan neck 10mm spanner at the back you can access they 2 bolts from the front of the car just put your hands up and over and it only took me 40mins to undo the bolts remove the lock hatch replace that broken part and put it all back together
Mine has broken twice now! Really poor design this. Probably gonna just use a long screwdriver instead of a key now once the 2nd broken latch is taken out.
Use some electrical tape around the flat head screw driver when prying off tabs/clips. So you dont damage paint on bumper.
Wish I'd seen this comment before I went ham on it 😂
Dude. Your a life saver. I'm absolutely useless with cars and you simplified it enough for my simple brain!! Thanks a lot bud.
My mum and I have never worked on cars before but this video was amazing, watched twice then took under half an hour start to finish!

I'm currently researching to do this fix myself, and I'm unclear on how these clips or screws should be removed. Any advice greatly appreciated. thanks
You can get a push clip removal tool or it's also called panel/trim removal tool. But I just used a flat head to pry it out.
Nice! Very detailed
Thank you very much.
Me has salvado bro 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You can also swap the lock if you just want the original key all you have to do is punch out the two roll pins and swap the barrel I've done it .
on mine there were 3 little pins
Twist the wire (lock) left then right, after you get the grill out, should pop the hood.
Tried this mine won’t pop
ye u just need long pliers. will do the job, im reliably told by a mechanic.
