correct. I'm in the country and on a septic system but in the township you are required to have a backflow preventer not one backup heard of in any basement around here since that's been done
tbh I think basements should have concrete for the lower part of all the walls for a situation like this. And all outlets should be at the middle height of the wall
I had a similar disaster in 2018: When my dad was in the shower, the toilet in the downstairs bathroom was rising like this because of some unknown blockage 'cause all the outgoing pipes were all connected to one outgoing pipe.
@@Swoliosis1 I thought all plumbing fixtures had separate outgoing pipes. I thought toilets had a pipe that leads to the septic tank. The way it was at our house when I used to live there, the house was built in the 50s. My late father said the setup of the pipes is much different these days when newer houses are built.
Why did I watch this!? I have a phobia of overflowing toilets and other toilets...( I know I'm going to get bullied for posting this, but I wanted to also let you know your not the only one who is afraid of toilets ) 😊
So sorry, that's awful! For those suggesting she turn off the water, that's not the problem! There is nothing she can at this point. The city sewer line is overwhelmed from a storm and her home is unfortunately at the lower end of the sewer line so the water is backing up into her home. The solution is to install a backflow preventer, but it's too late.
Anyone that experiences this problem needs a “Backflow Valve” installed in their front lawn or inside their basement. This just happened to our house. Our situation was a sewer water backup during a heavy rainstorm. It rained so hard so fast that the sewers filled up and backflow into our house. Crazy thing is it didn’t happen to any of our neighbors who also have toilets and their basements. We are having a backflow valve installed by a local plumbing company for about $5900. It will be installed in the front yard by the sidewalk with a PVC pipe sticking out of the lawn. Don’t let this happen to you and your family again. Get a “Backflow Valve” to prevent the sewer from backing up into your house ever again.
It's coming from the sewer main due to flood water getting into the sewer. you can get back flow preventer but if not maintained they will let some water back but much less volume than seen here
did u not read description it is during a storm so guessing water is being forced up back in to house as water coming out of toilet like that should not happen. and if you look at the place everything is ripped out from bottom of wall and things are on top of draws so nothing is damaged to bad and looks like this sort of thing is common as they were prepared for it. i want to know what kind of storm does that
This is why sewage ejector pumps should be used in basements instead of having a gravity sewer under the slab. Both my house, and my parents house don't have sewage pumps, and I made them a stand pipe for their floor drain. It saved their ass three times already. My basement slab is above street level, so I'm not concerned about a backup.
Not worth getting bathrooms installed in basements. I've seen them backup very often. Most you should have are washers and those basement sinks. We keep ours isolated in a separate room with a floor drain. Our basement did flood once this year but that was because we have one of those basement windows that you can escape through. It has a drain on the outside so that rain water can drain but it got clogged and a foot of water was inside.
Wow if I went down stairs my house and saw this i would probably just faint until the water floats me to a wall and I would scream WHAT THE HECK IS HAPPANING HERE then be worried how much it will cost well rip ur bank account.
