It felt like a courier ship to me immediately, and great to hear about nice atmo flight characteristics. I am not an asymmetric ship kind guy, but there looks to be good value here as a non-combat starter. Thanks Jay!
@@RedJay Thanks Jay, this ship has really captured my attention in ways I didn't expect. I can't wait to see what kind of range they settle on for this compared to something like the Rambler.
Sometimes I have the feeling that the ship exists out of leftover parts of any other crusader manufactured ships. It's not meant to compete with the competition, but to sell any excess material they had leftover.
Yeah, it felt a bit like reheated leftovers. I also had that feeling with the spirit, but here it is more intense. Reheated twice? :) Very Kitbash, very substandard for CIG.
That is very in style for Crusader. The Spirit series was basically just some old shuttles they redesigned to save money. The Ares was an offshoot of the Spirit development where one of the lead devs wanted a-symetric design. The only brand new design they have is the hercules and acording to lore the Hercules is not carrying the company echonomically anymore.
@@valeriansamborski5844 Well just because you save money of the development process does not mean the end product will be a budget product. It just means you have more money to do other things like having panels over the inner frame of the ship XD
The biggest issue for me is the flat and barren top side as well as the gun not working visually, (its obviously supposed to be larger). The engines also feel way too small for the large back end and the angles are too sharp. On the positive side the interior is beautiful and the non combat functions are nice. It also handles really well.
It does handle well and CIG did up the cannon to Size 4 but its still not going to win best looking ship awards externally anyway. Do agree the internal spaces are well made and could absolutely live out of this ship if needed to do so.
If they make it a size 5 gun they can get away with above $55 sales. Kept as is $55 will be a really tough sell for many unless they make it a size 4 gun. It has to be around the $45-50 range to do well. It’s a great ship, but the cutters can all carry vehicles and the atls (or any future mech suits). So particularly the rambler ($50) does what the intrepid does, but it is slower and carries less cargo while being able to transport some vehicles
100% agree, even as a non-combat starter, it's totally under-gunned. Upsizing the S3 to a S4 (preferably S5) would make it somewhat viable for most lower level gameplay loops.
I like it. Asymmetry isnt for everyone. Especially in this way. But there will definitely be those who love the design. Interior makes sense. I think it was overzealous to say "too many doors". Door locking is coming very soon. So knowing that your ship is safe if you open the ramp is nice. Alot of starters have the issue of once they're open, the whole ship is accessible to others. This resolves that. A heavy weapon rack in a starter is new. Most ships are lucky to have a rifle rack, let alone something bigger. Internal space is well thought out in my honest opinion. Again, not for everyone, but no ship in SC is for everyone.
Door locking sure will help on plenty of ships. Rifle racks for 2-hand and 1-hand weapons/utility gear are so critical now that I would not bother flying something beyond size of a fighter without them. Don't forget you won't be able to sit with a giant 2-hand kit on your back.
I melted my C1, bought back my Cutter LTI, upgraded it to the intrepid, and used my remaining store credit on a pulse and paints for both of them. This feels like the successor to my old Mustang Beta, and while I recoiled from it at first (both from looks and specs), I’ve come to love it. I think this will be my 1.0 starter. I originally intended to run with a c1 or other cutty-sized ship until 1.0 and then downgrade and use the remaining credits to gift a package, but I learned recently that you can’t gift things purchased with store credit, which is a little bizarre, so buying a pulse is the solution for me, I think.
The Avenger Titan has 8 scu and much better weapons and missiles that can be changed from 4 size 2 to 8 size 0nes and two size 3 and one size 4 guns .Its cheap and doesn't cost much to operate and has two ways to enter but it does need its gold standard refit. I have used it for years and it preforms like a fighter. Hell you can buy the Titan right now with the game and gear a paint skin for 56 bucks.
Intrepid just got a Size 4 gun last night. I have to put some testing with it in game see how it handles now with it. Avenger series has always been good choices and yes Titan in particular is timeless.
First Crusader ship that I've passed on. I was hoping for a Crusader starter but getting a fugly little Mustang Alpha/Beta competitor was not on my bingo card.

@@RedJay Would you happen to know how CIG go about allocating your '$ brought' ships from your hangar to the ''PTU/EPTU'', because only specific ships seem available. The reason i ask is, i have both a Zeus CL/MR in my 3.24.2 hangar, yet only the CL appears in my hangar for the EPTU, has it anything to do with the MR being in development, and CIG dont' consider loaners ''ES'' in this case?. Reason im interested in using the ES in the EPTU is for its ''2x M Quantum fuel tanks''. I brought a ES to see if it made a difference, yet the ES still does not appear in my EPTU hangar. Any idears?

It's not a strong reason but for players its to give starters more variety and some hype to get new players to become new backers. For CIG it helps them train up new ship devs.
Ok, the appearance of the ship is purely preferencial, even if I don't like it, others might. That's fine. But the interior is not a good design. The components in the rear needlessly take up space and should be pushed to the sides where the cargo is. If the two cargo slots sat together as one, that would make a much better space to take 8scu boxes of difference shapes. The offset corridor also needlessly takes up space in a small ship which is a bad decision when small ships need to be so much more efficient with their space management. Having the whole ship design offset for the sake of just 1x S3 weapon is it's biggest issue. Asymmetry works, when it has a valid purpose for existing. The Ares ships focus around having 1 massive gun that justifies it's reason for existing... the Intrepid is entirely offset for 1 gun that still puts it at the bottom of the DPS table. It's an arbitary design decision that was made more so for style over substance. For me, disappointing, considering CIG has made such fantastic, well thought out ships. They can do so much better, this feels like it's from another game from a prior era.
Personally, I find the interior to be good. Great even. The layout is nice and the cargo is like that to prevent larger boxes. Asymmetry isn't for everyone. You don't have to like it, but something isn't inherently bad, just because you don't like it. There are plenty of ships that I'm sure you can enjoy. This one is for those who love asymmetry.
@@Nemoticon Frankly, that's your opinion. There are plenty who love the design. Myself included. Too many people think that if they don't like something, then it shouldn't exist.
