      Alec Neate
As kids here in the UK, it was so very much more peaceful than today. There were no screens other than the TV screen, so no faces buried in an iPad, smart phone or laptop. People spoke either on the landline phone or face to face. No mobile phones. The only cameras we had were just film spool ones that we had to wait a week to get the pictures developed from, which was exiting. Music was provided either by the radio or vinyl records, or cassette tapes later in the 1970s. If you wanted to see a new movie, you had to go to the cinema which is among my best memories. We came out with our imaginations buzzing with desires to be whatever kind of person the hero in the movie was lol. Playtime was with friends and/or siblings and we played at whatever our imagination suggested, or football/soccer etc. We were outside doing things until we were called in for dinner or bedtime. Mom was always around and dad wasn’t too far away or due in from work any time soon. That is a deeply secure and peaceful feeling that I miss the most. Summers did seem sunnier for longer, in the UK than it is today. However warm it got, it was never too hot like in recent years. People were generally more polite. Not everyone had or has the same quality of childhood, but that’s the same with everything. I’m describing how things were generally.
If you get on well with your parents, please tell them every day, or at least very often that you love them so very much. They won’t be there someday. I wish I’d told my mum and dad more, that I loved them.

@@alecneate76 It's true. I was born in 1957 and my childhood was through the 60s in Wales, UK. Life was a never ending carefree adventure. It was idyllic. All you had to worry about was getting home before it got dark. Otherwise the day was all yours. It was wonderful and I always think I was lucky to have lived at that time.

It's strange, I a man of over sixty years of age and I can't remember anything of the series except the theme tune, yet every time I hear the music the tears flow. It is the memory of lost innocent times and of the loved ones who are no longer with me. I get the same reaction from the music in the original and best film version of The Railway Children. It's a kind of sweet sadness.

Summer Holidays..1974/75. Out of bed at 8:30..waiting for the BBC1 test card to finish & ''my shows'' to start. White Horses, Flashing Blade & Robinson Crusoe all to myself with breakfast of sweet tea & toast. What a start to the day. Those times are gone. Today?...it's grim breakfast tv, with grim news told by grim people. If the BBC had any sense they'd try these shows for a week...& see the viewing figures zoom. But they can't...all the tapes of these broadcasts have been lost. Shame on us.

Thank you for uploading. I am taken back to a time of innocence and childhood. This sounds morbid but I would like this played at my funeral for two reasons. Firstly as everyone has commented it moves people to tears so if nobody is crying than this will do the trick! Secondly it reminds me of my childhood and how I loved the program for its unique "feel good" factor today's t.v lacks.

The theme song is beautiful and will always remind me of fond memories riding horses, and pretending to be the girl in the programme.
