    I have had terrible battery life on my S22 Ultra and was ready to get the 14 Pro Max, but when I saw a class leading 2,000 nit display, AOD, a marginal processor increase, and no mention of a larger battery I decided to buy a used 13 Pro Max. I upgraded from the 13 pro max to the 14 pro max and the day to day is very similar and I may even prefer the notch because it’s less intrusive feeling on videos. I upgraded from the iPhone X to the 14 Pro, and the gap is huge. However, all things considered, this mostly just feels like another iPhone. Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing, given all of the QOL updates... I think I’m just jaded from waiting for so long and not seeing a lot of progress from an innovative standpoint. I was more enthralled with the X (coming from a 6S) than I’ve been with the 14 Pro. It just isn’t quite special enough.

    13 Pro Max is peak experience, getting that one instead.
    This year big focus on display tech with 14 Pro Max. Next year gon be focus on full body redesign, implying USB C or maybe some new connector port (10yrs since apple introduced lightning).
    Like what you said in the video, 14 Pro Max feels like a half step. Apple saving the other half upgrade, the body redesign for next year.
    edit:
    From what I read in the comments, I’m getting the impression that some opinions are looking at my comment and thinking the phone will be entirely different. A “full body redesign” could mean many things. As much as I would like to know the exact answer to what Apple’s exact approach would mean, I don’t. But what I do know is that a “full body redesign” can also be an evolution of the current design for a better experience. The same way they did with the screen redesign this year and added dynamic island. Apple doesn’t do redesigns as often so when they do have one done they will stick to it for many years. Here are some examples for an opportunity for Apple to solve problems through a body redesign:
    Apple could flush out the body with the camera bump and make the back flat with the camera which resembles the iPhone 4 back aesthetic. When putting the phone on the table it won’t rock back and forth because of the flushed camera bump adding to a better experience.
    Another example is that Apple needs to change the lightning port to provide a solution to transfer those high quality ProRaw files taken from the rear camera with fast transfer speeds which could imply USB-C or something entirely new.
    Finally seeing how Apple usually goes all in when changing a part of the body of the phone (like adding USB C) we could realistically expect changes in other parts of the body as well and have that change stay relevant for many years to come as how it happened with the boxy design in the iPhone 12s.

    • @archimedes2261
      @archimedes2261 2 года назад +2

      I would hope no full body redesign and do not care about USBC, the main attraction of the iPhones since the 12 pros has been exclusively their square chassis and how apple took the oven shape cams and integrated them so well into it plus 13-14 I think doing something else other than will be a massive regression. Anyone not happy can just get a Samsung ultra, I did that in 2019 the new thick square brought me back and I may not leave until Apple screws up but not likely anytime soon 😆

    • @BIG2hats
      @BIG2hats 2 года назад

      There won’t be a design change. The square stainless steel chassis and dynamic island will be here to stay for quite a while. I'm going to go for the regular iPhone 14 Pro. I still use my iPhone X from 2017 so i'm in for an upgrade! In my case, it's not only the Dynamic Island that i really like. (It's also the design!) Of course, the main reason why i'm upgrading from my iPhone X is for the camera's! I really would like to use that macrolens! The other nice thing for me will be ProMotion. Because my iPhone X does not have that! The only thing missing for me is USB-C. And that's the only reason i might upgrade again next year. If the iPhone 15/pro doesn't come out next year with USB-C i will hold on to my iPhone 14 Pro! I'm going with 256GB Space Black. I think the Black one does look very nice this time around and i have the white/silver one with my iPhone X. All in all, i was a bit looking towards that purple but i don't think that purple is really that noticeable. Though sure, when the light hits right the purple look really nice. But i will still slap a case on it.
    Anyway Drew, nice that you are keeping your 13 Pro! I think that if you're upgrading from a 13 to a 14 the upgrade isn't that big of a deal indeed. Except if you really like Dynamic Island (which i honestly think would be a fair reason to upgrade.) I mean it's not only "Dynamic Island." But also the design in itself instead of the notch. Of which i'm personally really became tired off. I had the same feeling from my iPhone 6s+ when i upgraded to my iPhone X!

    honestly your so right. I hope they add more functionaluty to the dynamic island. it's under utilized at the moment but it could be so much more useful with an easy iOS update. and I also would love to see them give us the option to change the refresh rate. I hate how it's a variable rate and that it's not always on 120HZ.

    I went from iPhone 5 to iPhone 8 Plus to iPhone 11 promax to iPhone 14 pro max. The only big changes I noticed over the past couple of years of me having an iPhone was the change from iPhone five to iPhone 8 plus. The touch ID, true tone, the extra camera, better Bluetooth 3D Touch, wireless charging, and faster bionic chip made using the phone a lot easier. Going from the iPhone 8 Plus to 11 promax was also a big update for me. it was my first phone without a home button. Losing 3D Touch annoyed the crap out of me though. I also really love the three cameras. Going from the 11 promax to the 14 promax was not a big update for me. Yes the camera and display improvements as well as the dynamic Island are cool, but apps open just as fast as they did on my 11 promax. I feel like smartphone manufacturers, including Apple, have perfected the smart phone to the point where upgrades aren’t special anymore. I would not have upgraded from the 11 promax to the 14 Pro Max if my phone didn’t break protecting my dog from being eaten by another dog. so far my biggest pet peeves about the 14 promax are:
    One. The pill cut out cuts into the display more. this is extremely annoying when watching videos because whenever I pinch out to fill the entire video player, the display bleeds around the edges of the island.
    Two. Because the speaker has been pushed all the way up to the top, it’s a lot easier to take a person off of speakerphone when talking to them. It wasn’t that easy to do this when I had the 11 promax.
    Three. The large camera bumps have become a nuisance. I’m constantly worried that the camera might become scratched. The camera protrudes on the 11 promax but not that much.
    These are issues that I will eventually have to get over, as they probably won’t get any better. The notch didn’t go away, the bumps kept getting bigger, and I had to deal with the notch cutting into the display on videos with the 11 promax. Upgrades are becoming more and more pointless year after year. Don’t upgrade unless you absolutely have to, your plan has some new deal, or your phone is just too old. Companies have already perfected the formula. It’s time for something new. Foldable phones aren’t it, cameras aren’t it unless the person takes a lot of photos, gimmicky features like the dynamic Island also aren’t it’s either (even though I really like it). my mom updated from the iPhone 8 Plus to the 13 Pro Max and my dad updated from the 7+ of the 13 promax. Those were giant upgrades for them, as they brought a lot of new features including performance enhancements, display upgrades, camera improvements, and more. but going from something like the 11 Pro, 12 Pro, or 13 Pro, to the 14 pro are not big updates. If you’re using anything below 11 series, turn updating would be official. If you’re on the pro series, updating is now pointless. Same thing goes for Samsung.

    Heh, really thought between 13 and 14 pro maxes (coming from 7). I picked 14 pro max (well, preordered from carrier so still waiting) mostly because of exactly that I can take those 48 MP photos of landscapes and stuff and the price difference was negligible after the deals I got from a friend working for the carrier.
    I’ve used different add on lenses and good old leg zoom to make my 7 more versatile. The camera is still ok and takes very decent photos in good light, but battery life and occasional issues with almost every other thing with my phone just have made it frustrating to use. But it’s the non-optimal situations where I want to take better photos too!

Before the 10 I had the 6plus ( 2015 ), the 7 & 7 plus looked the same so I never thought it would change til the 10 dropped. I got it & had it for 5 years. I’m so due for an upgrade & the 14 pro is the one I’m getting. As far as the “ DYNAMIC ISLAND “ goes, ya right it will get old overtime but the 16 pro ( 2024 ) will be a change & I’ll be buying that unless they wait another 5 years for a change, that’s where I stand on that ma man. Nowadays, it is almost inexplicable to even believe that upgrading each year will be worthwhile in terms of features or hardware. I understand that the average iPhone upgrade cycle is near four years, so these clickbait titles are just nonsense for most people.
    There will be a niche market that can afford to upgrade every year or is still living in the old days where yearly upgrades were more significant, but no one really needs to upgrade yearly, even every two years. Look at the S20U -v- S22U or the Fold -v- Fold4, just tweaking the same phone (barring the marketing trick of the s-pen). So YT creators need to get over it and not be so dramatic. Maybe look at it from a thoughtful angle and give good advice.
    The reality is that the iPhone 14 Pro is a better phone than the 13 Pro, so buy it if you are in your upgrade year. Do not fall for the buy last year's model, as that advice has proved stupid from these influencers (iPad Pro and MB Air). There are so many little improvements on the 14P; they may not be headline grabbers, but they add up to a much better phone. Otherwise, wait for the 15 Pros and upgrade if that is your time.

    I reckon when Apple will adopt usb c next year they’ll have regular usb c on the 15 and then reserve thunderbolt for the 15 pros, although there’s rumours that they could just have usb 4.0 on the iPhone 15’s

    I’m so surprised no one is comparing dynamic island to Touch Bar

    I totally agree with you about the 13 pro max - 14 pro max comparison even though i havent used either 13 pro max or 14 pro max. (Still with my s9 plus of Samsung). However, isnt it nice to have a 48 MP camera in your pocket for special days like your kid's birthday or your loved ones say graduation ceremony. Go to settings, pick 48 Pro Raw, take your pictures and then turn it back off. Its like Samsung's Note line. You may not use the s-pen too often but always good to have it with you. Always on display thing :) If I happen to buy the 14 pro max, the very first thing I will do is turning the aod off as early as possible. I have still a 13 pro max 256 gb Silver still boxed and thinking about trading it for the 256 gb. 14 pro max due to:
    1) 48 mp pro raw capability
    2) 4 K cinematic
    3) Dynamic Island
    4) 2.8 K action mode (probably with the 15 , it will be 4 K also :) )
