This is my ranking of every episode of Mushoku Tensei so far, from worst to best. With Mushoku Tensei season 2 cour 2 about to start, I thought rather than a recap of everything that had happened to Rudeus, Eris, Sylphy, Roxy and the other great characters, it would be more fun to rank the 37 episodes we've already had, and give them mini reviews along the way.

Orsteds Episode is my all time favorite. The Trailer was insane hyped for me.

I don't think I've ever clicked on a video so fast!
1. Zenith finding out Rudeus can use magic. Seeing her so happy was a nice scene. I wish there was at least one scene of Rudeus spending time with Zenith in a meaningful way.
2. After Paul's battle with Rudeus where Dead End is waiting for Paul to talk, Eris goes over first to chew Paul out and is just about to attack him and Ruijerd steps in and casually grabs Eris by one hand while she is using everything in her power to jump on Paul. I have to imagine that in spite of the situation that Ruijerd must have been very happy to get that far with Eris from the first time those two met. No fear from Eris at all from Ruijerd.
3. Eris hanging on to Rudeus after Orstead saves him. This is more from the manga than the show but I can't help but think of the two page scene in the manga that they left out of the anime. I know it's cheating to use the manga, but the artwork was amazing!
4. Any episode with best girl Ghislaine.
Imo the Roxy ep fits so well thematically right after the Rudy and Paul reunion eps, it's pure perfection.
Yeah, I can see why people think that, for me it just kind of stalled the plot and while mirroring the Paul reunion, it was a reunion with some people who barely appear again and an adaptation of something that was stretched out from just a few pages of the novel, I just felt like it could have been done as an OVA, or a shorter segment of another episode. I remember watching it and realizing the whole episode was going to be that and just being so disappointed haha.
@@NatalieXHunter Understandable, I just feel like they did an insanely good job with the stuff they added and I think it's more about Roxy's character development than just the reunion. The changes/extra content was almost ep23 level for me, which is a high praise, since Rifujin wrote the script for ep23 himself.
I also love Turning point 2, it's not only great as a narrative but also in animation, that fight scene where Orsted just demolishes Ruijerd like he is nothing was incredibly done.
The only thing i didn't like as much was the anime kinda spoiling what would happen at that moment, since the episode started showing rudy dying there, but i guess the anime traded the shock for the suspense, which was...ok
I can't wait for the show to come back, and also, i hope now you can appear again with Espi at ED's streams, because i think Ed might be trying to steam Espi from you XD

This video reminds me just how good his series is, when from the 30s upwards I was saying to myself "...but I lOVE that episode!". My personal top 3 would be S1 Ep 22 (TP2 aftermath & the break-up of Dead End), S2 Ep 3 (Rudy hits rock bottom) and S1 Ep 21 (THAT fight with the Dragon God) which are very special to me, and all left me a complete mess.
There's more Mushoku Tensei coming, let's GOOOOOO!!!!!!

*Homie* , turning point 2 is going to be SO HARD to beat! I'm not exactly watching MT for its combat, but every bloody thing came together in that moment, and the animators got an opportunity to go buck wild, while the entire tone of the protagonist's life journey completely shifted on track to something so much bigger than himself.
Forever will be my reference for the phrase, "You are *not* the Main Character"

S1 ep 21,22,23 are some of the greatest stretches in anime. I will never forget that and S1 Bind as long as I live.
And yeah this is obviously a bias, but I honestly would put all of S2 at the bottom except S2ep3 and finale. All of Mushoku S1 was just so masterfully directed and storyboarded compared to S2. Even S2ep9 was mostly an info dump and I would legit still take all of S1 over it. I still love the show to death and am looking forward to S2p2 airing today!

Very excited about season 2 part 2, i've been careful to not even watch and trailers because i don't want to spoil it for myself. I'm currently on book 4 of the light novel as well, but they're going to take me a good amount of time to read.

40:50 - I do believe that it was Nanaoshi which told that she and Rudeus were from the same village, in the anime. 🤔

Yeah, I didn't think too much about that, but either way, Sylphy would know from this that there was something strange going on, as they do speak the same language Sylphy has never heard before and Sylphy knows where Rudy grew up in this world. The point still works, I just misremembered who said the line.
Love the video. It's great to kinda get a recap of so many moments in the anime so far. Towards the end, you mentioned how dangerous orsted was compared to ghislaine and ruijerd. I wonder how close those two are as far as combat capabilities. I always just kind of assumed ruijerd wasn't on ghislaine's level, but not too far below
Great video. I love the show and it’s has so many good episodes. My favorite episode is the Forest Goddess, but I have to use my imagination for that one when I listen to your reading 😊

For me, I would bring up the Badigadi and especially the Eris intro. The latter would be in top 3 together with Turning Point 2 and the first episode.
Otherwise I more or less agree with the ranking.
Still a bit miffed about not getting Therese after the Paul-fight..

I have never watched the show. I'm just here for the voice and personality lol.
Ok so my top three would be as such (also yes i am a Sylphie i admit it):
3) Season 1 Episode 3 "A friend" because its the first time we see best girl Sylphie and we see Rudy's intelligence in a social sense when he's dealing with his father. Also i'm quite a fan of the bullies getting payback to stopped scenes so.
2) Season 2 Episode 9 "The White Mask" as we see Rudy choosing to stay in the world his now because he's happy now and really thats what he wants, a life hes happy with and being happy with himself and he's got, even if it isn't ideal and he still has parts that need working.
1) Season Episode 0 "Guardian Fitz", i know Sylphie does more in the other material when Rudy leaves and she is meant to have attacked Paul when he was sending Rudy away but we never saw any of that, so this was really Sylphie's first time to really show how good she was and our girls didn't disapoint she was kind of a bad ass honestly, plus we also see she was able to make friends who later she can keep and does work with outside of having Rudy around and his friends and are willing to support her and she'll support them.
As an honourable mention Season 1 Episode 13 "Missed Connections" because it was quite funny seeing the stright laced and inocent Roxy with Elinalise and she's well...Elinalise and they do have a fun dynamic, plus anytime with Elinalise is golden because she is a fun character plus it was nice to see a bit more of how much Roxy cares about Rudy.

Yes, I did, the video was simply taking too long to make and I had to have it up on Saturday as obviously the next season started airing on Sunday, so I made it without images or clips just so I could have it up in time. A lot of people only listen to the audio anyway so I figured people wouldn't mind too much... Sorry, though.

I'd have to disagree with you on Roxy's episode. like with you mine is also personal, obviously, but I always like getting more info on characters, my favourite types of episodes are usually conversation-based, think of Subarus negotiations with Crusch in re:zero, so more slow-paced episodes are my go to, I love the quiet before the storm type episodes as well. dont hate action, Turing point 2 is great for how it portrays Orsted as this true threat, and his theme is amazing for it. just really like characters talking.
either way, Roxy's episode is nice because if you've read her side series she really did just up and leave in the middle of the night, seeing her parent's reactions to finally seeing her again is still one of my favourite parts. Though as I understand it it's mainly the placement you've got a problem with, I always took it to mean this is what is happening with Roxy as Rudeus and crew are throwing up on a boat. but that's about it from me. great video!
Come on, you can't compare that cry fest Subaru to anything other than Kazuya from Rent-A-Girlfriend. Dude has more waterworks than Aqua.
@dc1397 are you aware of the channel you're on😅? Subaru is a great character. I'd also say that Subaru has way more to cry them the RAG guy.
Either way, I was simply using that series and specific episode as a reference to the type of stories and vibes that I like.
@theboneman7379 I am completely aware. They took an outstanding concept with Re:Zero and crapped all over it with pity party Subaru. Very sad to see what they did with that show. Especially him not listening to Emilia who absolutely begs and pleads with him to not mess up her meeting...which he promptly does. What a great friend he is.
@dc1397 to each their own. I like Subaru for his flaws as a character. It's exactly his falling that makes it great to watch him rise to the challenge. He has to improve, but he wouldn't improve if he already knew the lesson. I was expecting a lot of people to disagree about the Roxy episode lol. But wait until you hear what the part of Re:Zero I thought was the most boring in both the WN and anime out of the stuff that has been animated is... I'll give you a hint - it's many people's favorite episode of season 2 if not the whole series lol

For Redundancy I may just put out a chapter here and there as a special thing, not necessarily in order either because they're mostly standalone stories. I'm not planning to do it as a serialized series because that stuff really screws me in the algorithm and at the moment I could really do without that!
I don't think ranking individual episodes makes sence: it would be better to ranks arcs and sub-arcs (turning point 2 being it's own mini-arc, for example technically) so that you don't need to discard setup episodes for not containing their payoff. Rather you'd take into account how good the build-up was when considering the arc's actual point.
Yeah, it doesn't really, it's just a format of video people do with series that I thought I'd have a stab at with MT.
Rank every light novel volume?
I might do that, but I need to finish reading them first - when I read the series it was only translated up to volume 14, so I read the rest on it as the web novel, and now I'm going back to read the light novels up to the end.
