    When you use inks or high flow acrylics on the plate, add a drop of dish soap to your plate first to prevent beading :)

    You might try rubbing some cooking or baby oil on your plate to remove the pencil lines. I was able to remove some pastel that I thought had stained my plate. With a bit of oil and some rubbing, it was completely removed.

      Yes babyoil or shower oil and baby wipes after. Do this a couple of times and the plate will be clean again.

    Thank you for posting this! It gives me so much inspiration to give abstract another go. I usually end up with a big muddy mess when I try to work on a canvas. This technique looks like a good place to start.

    Now where did I put my Geli plate?🤔I haven’t played with it since I moved, and you made me want to figure out which box it is still packed in. I loved the ones with the lighter colors and one or two light layers. So soft and lovely! I love that people are discovering your channel! Look at you grow! Well deserved, as your content is unique.

    Recently borrowed a gel plate to compare with the ones I made and had issues with the graphite stick marking the plate. While I don't have baby oil as recommended to clean, I did have some sensitive skin cleansing oil. I put some on and rubbed with my finger tip the stained parts till it all came up, then wiped the oil off with a clean paper towel. Good as new, and I didn't have to buy a plate to replace the one I promised to return the same as it was when I got it.

    i can't wait to see what is next with these sketchbook pages and these separate sheets. I am wondering if you continue working abstractly or ever work in representational elements. I struggle with what to add. I do often work representationally after the abstract background but often get stuck at this in between phase. Thanks for your honesty and enthusiasm.

      I tried still lifes a while ago. But I keep on coming back to abstracts. I'm also tempted to explore landscapes, still abstractly though. Unfortunately I don't have any good advice for you there.

    Thank you for sharing your experience and talents with us ❤ Q.- will you work the pages into little finished pieces in your sketchbook or just leave them? I often feel guilty for “wasting” expensive sketchbooks even though I know better! ❤😊

    • @jclosestudio
      @jclosestudio  11 месяцев назад +4

      You are most welcome! I think I'll probably just leave them, I'm lazy like that 😄
      I rarely go back, but I'm tempted to go through my sketchbook and see if I want to add to any previous sketches where I've given up.
      The only sketchbooks that are wasted are the ones left empty! And who knows, maybe you'll want to go back over them in a few years time. You are just leaving yourself that possibility. Nothing's wasted.

      @@jclosestudioI was thinking if you only printed every second spread you could cut them out and use for collage later. But even just that center line sure adds interest to the other papers. Cool stuff. Might try that.

      True! Might try that. But I do like how the two pages work together. It's almost like a mini series of two@@411chook

    Do you seal your work with anything to prevent the soft pastels and neo color crayons from smudging? If so, what? Thanks.

    • @jclosestudio
      @jclosestudio  11 месяцев назад

      Not in my sketchbook, but on finished paintings I spray a few layers of fixative and then dab it with gloss medium and a soft brush. I’m actually working on a video about Neocolor II crayons where I show that. Will be out soon

      I clean mine with baby wiper.

    • @jclosestudio
      @jclosestudio  11 месяцев назад +2

      @novitaelisaillustration Fantastic! How are you enjoying using it?
      Most of the time I don't bother cleaning. It. The dried layers will come off next time I print with fresh paint.
      However you can usually clean it with a wet cloth. Baby wipes do work pretty well, cause they don't leave a lot of fibres. I have also read that hand sanitiser works, but I didn't find that any better than water. You can also rinse it with soap under running water.
      I find it quite a bit of an effort to get the dried paint off though, which is why I leave the paint on usually.

    • @jclosestudio
      @jclosestudio  11 месяцев назад

      yes, baby wipes are pretty good.

    • @novitaelisaillustration
      @novitaelisaillustration 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@jclosestudio thank you for the info. Currently trying to clean it with baby wipes and it works! I need to put some pressure though, but being careful to not scratch it too. My geli plate it's the one from Speedball brand, I think it's bit weird because it has some sticky feel to it somehow. My paper keep glued to the geli plate, it sometimes hard to take off. Maybe because it's new? Idk, but hopefully it getting better the more I use.
      I made lots of mark marking for collage and use it in my mix media illustration 🥰

    • @jclosestudio
      @jclosestudio  11 месяцев назад +1

      I think they are all a little bit sticky, but the paper "glueing" to the plate is probably the paint. I've also found that the longer you leave the paper on the plate, the more it sticks, but also the more paint it picks up.
      Is is fantastic for collage! @@novitaelisaillustration
