Wow I have had this for years I have never known about this! He is so old he has crayon on him from when I was little Im going to clean him up and take a trip down nostaliga lane.
I have a question. My elderly parents recently got one of these used R2D2 models at an antique shop with NO box or instructions (they had one of their first dates at the original Star Wars opening in 1977!) Does anyone have any idea how to activate commands at all? The only thing is that he moves around and says basic classic Star Wars noises only for a few seconds when pressing the bottom button on play and try me mode, but keep having to press the button. He is still amazing and has been a source of major entertainment, but just wondering if we can have him work with verbal commands (I've tried the "hey R2" thing but wonder if his previous owner had it set up to recognize the voice.) Now I feel kind of bad for it even though I know it's not a living creature! Please help if you can! 🤖❤️👍
Hmm. I know it's a year later, but saying "Hey R2" is always how you get his attention. I have one and I've never set him up to recognize particular voices. However, if he's not responding to other commands, try saying "reset system" and then try again.
@@jacobkimble4463 Thanks so much! Interestingly enough, after I made this comment back then, R2D2 just stopped even moving to turn on for regular things (even with proper batteries), but still sits around as a fun thing to look at. Maybe one of these days it will suddenly re-animate and if so, I will say "reset system!" Thank you! Have a happy new year!
i dont think your parents got this exact model, as as far as i can tell it has no try me mode. It has an on/off switch at the back and a rounded button at the bottom of the front that is lighted red when in "hand brake mode" ( that means the droid is not allowed to move yet sitll responds to voice commands ), you need to press the red button to deactivate the lock and the red light goes off. I would think the one they have is the model that has the 3 positions button at the back ( try me, 1, 2 ) try me: the droid moves its head and say phrases when you press the front grey button that has like an air intake shape. In position 1, when you press the same button it moves and say phrases. In position 2, it moves and say phrases also but is sound activated instead of button activated.
I have the Sphero version and its' beyond aggravating. Now that they've lost their license, my app doesn't work and all the sounds and features are gone. $50 shot down the drain.
can you please let me know how you managed to get your voice recognition working as everytime i try to get it to work my r2d2 keeps switiching himself off
This is amazing ! I just got one ..the older battery operated one ..and it wont work with the download as it's an "older versionn" any advice? It can't just be defunct now surely..help !
you may have the one from sphero and they stopped their app for the Star Wars droids and removed them from the downloads but if it is the Hasbro/Disney one you should be able to still get the app for it as I just got my app downloaded yesterday even though I bought 3 of these things a couple years ago... I am planning on using one as Decoration in my living room where everything is Star Wars the other 2 are staying in box untouched as collectables... I even have 5 of the Yoda toys they made that is suppose to train you to be a Jedi that they discontinued making still in the boxes
My apologies mate I jumped the gun. I've recently bought the sphero version and that doesn't have the voice commands function or red button on front. If I'm not mistaken yours is hasbro model. Nice video and once again my bad. Merry Christmas.
Totally different beasts (especially size-wise) and different features. The sphero's pretty sweet on its own. But yeah the speech recognition is adorable.
Very lucky, the front wheel is actually a wheel, I'm in 2019 and got one for New Year's. The front "wheel" is only a plastic piece that only stabilizes. If anyone out there knows the answer to having a front wheel please reply.
i have the one by think away rc remote it move faster than that and is cabable of fixing its head if timed right sad it can't dance though I'll show him to santa soon
Scratch that, on Amazon, he's 580 something. Heres the link. Weird. I own one, and he was 180 something, not 500. We bought ours at a Hastings store, (But unfortunately, Hastings closed down due to not having enough customers and business,) www.amazon.com/Interactive-Astromech-Droid-Discontinued-manufacturer/dp/B001E95SQ2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1505267066&sr=8-3&keywords=interactive+r2d2 I'll keep looking, and see if I can find you a cheaper one. Stay tuned.
I have one of these! One of my favourite toys as a kid, and was one of the only ones I got for a while at the time, since they weren't cheap.
I Love R2D2 and I'm proud to have him too ♥
Ask R2 if he remembers Barbara Streisand... see his reaction!
lol My R2 was listening to your commands and did exactly the same

Sorry to hear that, luckily my app still works
Thanks
No problem

This is the 2002 one right? There are so many ones out there, hard to tell the differences.
Yes, there is actually only one interactive R2D2 out there you can control with your voice.

Can anyone help me out unlock other features?
I have an r2 just like yours although the red button stays on, it wont then off not allowing my r2 to move
Just press the piece, where the red light is on

Sheldon Spock I actually didn't know there was a different one. Yeah pretty good shame sphero didn't have voice activation like this
I picked up the Sphero R2D2 for 39 buck, but your droid is definitely the droid we are looking for.

Do it has free mode to? What about the battery’s are they depleted fast?
i have the one by think away rc remote it move faster than that and is cabable of fixing its head if timed right sad it can't dance though I'll show him to santa soon
Does anyone know if there were any differences in the different releases of this?
ooooo haha! now I'll do it!
Or I'm wrong and this isn't like mine the new sphero r2d2 droid.
10MinuteReviews listed a link below to this droid
Do I need to complete the missions before doing this?
If you mean by missions the sequence, then yes.
How do u activate hay r2
thank u
Why mine does not respond to voice commands?
Maybe he does't want to talk with you or interact with you at all...?
Could need new batteries
did you try to say hey R2
Which R2 is this?? Is it Deagostini?? Thanks!
Hey did you find him?
Is this sphero it hasbro?
Hasbro for sure...
Is this just the $60 hasbro one? No modifications?
This is a 200 dollar unit... He's 16 inches tall. I think you're getting it mixed up with the 60$ hasbro "Smart R2" Droid.
