He was already a complete rapper with his own style built from tons of underground experience when he came to YG in late 2012. 3 months later WIN began. What people think is similar to GD is basically what many Hip hop artists do. GD was special because he is himself special and has his own swag. It's not because he does a unique facial expression that nobody else does at all.
Every though Mino styles like GD, has a voice like TOP he is still his own person, Mino. I hope to see how both him and all of Winner progress in the future. The future is definitely bright!

Mino uses a bunch of punch lines throughout the lyrics (yes, that's an important part in rap making). I am sure that Mino is different from GD and CL, who are basically strong swaggers. Mino, who has lots of experience on the underground hip hop scene, is much serious and sophisticated in making lyrics and definitely shows different characters in terms of diction, flow, body moves, and others. From what I understand YG, it never encourages its artist to try to be YG or copy someone else's style, and in fact it's the opposite. YG repeatedly values and demands uniqueness from each artist, being one of a kind, very much. I think GD and CL contribute to the construction of the swagger hip hop aspect within YG while Mino, with his own little witty swag is adding some lyrical intelligence (like Tablo), and solidness in overall quality. As a rapper, he is more manly (bear-like) than GD and softer and more flexible than CL in expressing self. Plus, this time Mino worked on his rap and flow with the track made by Teddy and Choice 37, which I think is why he is easily considered doing typical YG thing. However, taking a closer look, you will surely find how unique and classy rapper he is. So true! I've heard so much about how really good his lyrics are. Not being a native speaker-I could only second guess. But I definitely remembered Big Tone, one of YG's producers and their rap mentor during WIN, saying that Mino writes really good lyrics and this is what sets him apart. And there was YG praising him as an excellent songwriter during the WIN Finale. I actually SC'd one of your comments about the WORD PLAY that was going on in this song and I truly appreciate it. Sometimes a lot of the nuance of the language gets lost in translation-so it was really a big help. I believe that the real essence of rap is how you effectively express yourself (like in poetry) that's why I always make an effort to check the lyrics. Thank you! Mino uses a bunch of punch lines throughout the lyrics (yes, that's an important part in rap making). I am sure that Mino is different from GD and CL, who are basically strong swaggers. Mino, who has lots of experience on the underground hip hop scene, is much serious and sophisticated in making lyrics and definitely shows different characters in terms of diction, flow, body moves, and others. From what I understand YG, it never encourages its artist to try to be YG or copy someone else's style, and in fact it's the opposite. YG repeatedly values and demands uniqueness from each artist, being one of a kind, very much.
I think GD and CL contribute to the construction of the swagger hip hop aspect within YG while Mino, with his own little witty swag is adding some lyrical intelligence (like Tablo), and solidness in overall quality. As a rapper, he is more manly (bear-like) than GD and softer and more flexible than CL in expressing self. Plus, this time Mino worked on his rap and flow with the track made by Teddy and Choice 37, which I think is why he is easily considered doing typical YG thing.
However, taking a closer look, you will surely find how unique and classy rapper he is. So true! I've heard so much about how really good his lyrics are. Not being a native speaker-I could only second guess. But I definitely remembered Big Tone, one of YG's producers and their rap mentor during WIN, saying that Mino writes really good lyrics and this is what sets him apart. And there was YG praising him as an excellent songwriter during the WIN Finale. I actually SC'd one of your comments about the WORD PLAY that was going on in this song and I truly appreciate it. Sometimes a lot of the nuance of the language gets lost in translation-so it was really a big help. I believe that the real essence of rap is how you effectively express yourself (like in poetry) that's why I always make an effort to check the lyrics. Thank you!
