For every stupid person who doesn't know. Ganguro is a makeup style or a style in general. Just because she does a tutorial on it, doesn't mean she really likes this look, or wears it everyday. So stop hating.

Sorry, but so many of these comments are really ignorant. I'm going to have to speak up. Ganguro fashion is meant to be outlandish and comical- it's a statement against outlandish and comical standards that are cultivated in their culture. The "ideal physique" is to be pale and have dark hair, so they do the exact opposite. They make their hair bright blonde and paint their skin to look dark brown. I'm sure that not everyone does it for that purpose, but it's more socially profound than your "i refuse to sink" tattoo or your fall out boy hoodie.
uh... lmao no its not trying to be racist carictures, ganguro was just the extreme of gyaru, its literally just came from wanting to completely reverse the beauty standards, although for a while there was b-gal which was very culturally appropriating to black culture, but luckily it died out quickly

I hate how these people who live in the American culture come to talk here that it's some kind of asian snooki or Nicki Minaj. Like open your minds America isn't everything. Ganguros came before those two were even famous. Many people are being judgemental if it's not something that is from the USA. You can see it how the kids react to K-pop video and anything that isn't American they think it's weird. Or they compare American stars with Japanese, Korean etc. And say that they are copyng the Ameican stars.

I totally agree. I'm a ganguro too, and I hate it when people compare me to stupid bimbos like Pamela Anderson.
Kpop is quite loved in the usa so that makes no sense. Some people are rude yes but every culture has that, dont just lump all americans into that stereotype.

somehow the ganguro makeup style reminds me of goth makeup, how it's "extreme" and unconventional beauty but the wearers feel beautiful in it. however you express yourself, as long as it makes you feel good and happy, i think it's wonderful : ))) makeup, even basic makeup, is a form of expression. conventions shouldn't define the beauty of it~
it also has similar elements of protest against convention....like in most east asian countries, pale skin is considered the standard for beauty, but this style darkens the skin. it's interesting!!!

I have always find ganguro attractive, even though black hair and pale skin is my thing. Like this style is so rebel and badass ! Ganguro's don't give a shit about what others think, the attitude makes it even more awesome. It's beautiful and weird. Weird in the good way, love it. Awesome tutorial !

When I was a kid in the 2000s, I found it weird, as well, but now I appreciate it.
They have the most gorgeous bone structure I've ever laid eyes on. His (Japanese commenters refer to them as a man, so I'll follow suit) cheekbones are so high and sharp, and the lil faces he pulls are too cute! Plus the perfectly executed ganguro makeup and little skit at the end were adorable :)
Literally almost any middle/high school girl in the early 2000s was wearing some foundation at least one shade darker than their neck lmao. This was mostly because working-class girls would buy their makeup at the grocery store, where the options were cheap yet limited. I'm super pale and I would still wear THAT BEIGE MAYBELINNE STUFF. Also wearing bronzer and darker foundation to look tan in the winter was never intended as a form of black face. MOREOVER MANY ASIAN AND ALSO OLIVE-SKIN WHITE PEOPLE CAN ACHIEVE THAT DEEP TAN LOOK NATURALLY.

実は私は、ヤマンバ文化は外国人との会話でかなり使ってる。
欧米人は日焼けに憧れるので、日本人が日焼けをめちゃめちゃ嫌がることを結構不思議がってて「日本人は何故あんなに日焼け防止に熱心なの？そういう文化なの？それとも白人に憧れてるの？」って、よく訊かれるから「十数年前にヤマンバギャルってのが流行ったんだから、違う。日本では、日焼けが流行る時は流行る。ただ日本の場合、ヤマンバ時代に日焼けの評価が徹底的に落ちちゃって、今はその反動で、日焼け＝チャラい・ビッチ・おバカ・不潔ってイメージになっちゃってるんだと思う」って説明してる。

Oh, and ganguro means the fashion of a sunburned face. It was started be a rebellious group of asian teens in shibuya (the fashion capital) that wanted to overly-do the concept of asians trying to be white; trying to be pale and having neutral makeup tones.
I know it looks a little silly to us, but ganguro to the japanese was like scene kids for americans.

@MrSheepieh Actually, they're not making fun of them; ganguro is about liking the whole tan, blonde, and super girly look (which was popular in western fashion for a bit) while having a fun attitude. They enjoy the look, therefore they create looks to adhere to that.
Btw I think this Japanese style is trying to O.D on highlighting and contouring
