    • @VanTravels_

      Almost 100% of places accept card. I use cash very rarely here. To open up a bank account they ask for your passport, a work contract, the letter that your school will give you (on why you need a bank account), and your TIE document. Some people I know were able o open a bank account without the TIE but I was never able to until I had it.

    Thank you for the informative video and for giving us lots of insights into life as an Auxiliar! I've applied for the BEDA program for the upcoming school year (which is another english assistant program that also lets you pick regions but most of their placements are in or near Madrid - the BEDA application came out in December and I gave a shot at applying since it came out earlier than the nalcap one and I wanted to get the ball rolling early. They do have an interview process so I did a group interview the week after new year's) I'm really excited about the possibility of going to Spain in the fall! I've watched some of your apartment hunt vlogs and was scared that it'll be difficult to find a place, but everything eventually works out in the end.
    Have you had students ask you to give them private lessons/tutoring in English, Math or other subjects? Is it easy to find tutoring opportunities? I know there's a bunch of auxiliar facebook groups out there that post opportunities like that but just wanted to get a feel of what's happening on the ground.
    I was also wondering whether you help teach the subjects like math, science, gym (as in make lesson plans, powerpoints, play sports with the kids, etc) or whether you pull students out in small groups and practice English conversation with them, or both. I'd love some elaboration on this. And do the teachers use some kind of rubric to assess the students' English skills?
    Thanks again for the wonderful videos and greetings from Texas!

    • @VanTravels_
      @VanTravels_  2 года назад +2

      Hi! Apartment hunting sucked but you'll eventually find something!
      I don't have any private classes because I haven't really wanted to take on any just yet. I hear of opportunities often but they do get taken pretty quickly since other auxes seek those for extra money. You can always offer private classes to your own students and tell the teachers that you can offer classes to anyone interested.
      For my high school I only make games or worksheets for some classes or sometimes the teacher does it and I just help out and help read. I haven't had to make any powerpoints, those are usually provided by the teacher and I just read/them.
      The teachers don't assess their English. They don't ask me to do so either.

      @@VanTravels_ Thanks so much for the input! I'm glad to hear that the work is mostly helping out and making fun activities and that the teachers have been nice in not making you do much of the heavy lifting and prep work. That's really good to hear. In the aux Facebook groups sometimes I see posts about auxes not getting much direction, etc and that is scary. In my BEDA interview I did mention that I prefer a warmer location as far as placement is concerned (having lived in only warm places), but if I get Madrid I'll make the best of it weather wise and budget wise. I feel like you can't go wrong with almost any location in Spain in terms of placement. Wishing you the best and looking forward to your next videos!! Saludos

    Hi there thank you for sharing your experience. I found your video really helpful. I applied to the NALCAP this year and just recently heard that I will be placed in Andalucía. However, I am a little bit nervous because I only have experience being a para not a teacher and assumed that the NALCAP was more of a program where you assist the teacher instead of actually teaching the whole class. Do you get the option of telling the teacher your comfortability level of teaching whole class or do you just get thrown in it?

    • @VanTravels_
      @VanTravels_  Год назад

      Hi! Thank you for your kind words! They know that most auxiliares aren’t experienced teachers and they’re okay with that. There aren’t high expectations for you. You might be asked to put together some worksheets occasionally or read of their books (teach the lessons that they’re already learning) but in my experience all of my teachers were super nice and I could ask them to help me with the teaching part since I wasn’t experienced.

      So the gyms are pretty similar to the ones in the US in terms of equipment. You won't have trouble finding one if you're in a city. I don't know about pueblos but you can find them all over in cities and they're very nice. I go about 4 times a week. I lost about 15 lbs while living here in Spain bc the lifestyle is way more active. So you'll definitely be able to remain healthy!

    Hi! Your videos are very helpful and informative on the processes. I'm planning on applying for NALCAP once the apps open, though I was wondering how you created your letter of purpose? I have all the other required documents to apply except this one. Unlike the letter of recommendation which had a guideline, I didn't see one for the statement of purpose. I'm applying from Canada, but I haven't seen any videos of a Canadian experience for NALCAP so I'm kind of nervous about it.

    • @VanTravels_
      @VanTravels_  2 года назад +1

      Hi! I have a Canadian friend and I can ask him any questions you might have if you'd like! For the statement of purpose just talk about why you want to be in the program, what you have to offer, that kind of thing. Think of a cover letter for a resume. Just mention why this is something you'd like to do. Don't overthink it too much. This won't be a determining factor on whether you'll be accepted or not. They pretty much accept everyone as long as you can pass you background check.

      We have fb groups and a WhatsApp group with other auxes which is your best bet for finding new people. We usually do meetups and all hang out. Someone might post "is anyone up for drinks tonight" or that kind of thing and then you reach out and viceversa. I haven't really made any local friends but I do meet people when I go out to bars and stuff.
