Thank you, Zack, for another heartfelt reaction to Angelina singing her first original song. Although she is singing it at the age of 12, she wrote it when she was eleven.
Simple words by an 11-year-old child describing the things that are important to her at that age, but when one listens carefully one realises that those words are of great emotional depth to which all of us can relate.
For me, that a child can so clearly tell us in simple words what is important to her is remarkable, and then when one listens closely realises that those simple words describe an intellectual and emotional depth which is certainly unusual in one so young.
Pointing out that Angelina at this age is very aware of poverty and loss. By that time Angelina has already been very active in humanitarian vauses, helping to raise millions (!) to fight hunger and lack of basic necessities for less fortunate children around the world. She knows about the bad and the ugly (even at global level) but maintains her positive, optimistic outlook about beauty and love.
It is easy to forget that she has seen a lot of life and is undoubtedly very sensitive to what she sees, moreso than most people. Thanks for the comment

I’ve been following her for years now and I absolutely love her along with so many growing fans of hers…I know a lot of people don’t even know who she is yet. The first time I heard this, I reacted to her using the words embrace "from someone safe" and I just hoped that unsafe embraces was not in her experience 🥀
This won’t surprise you, but there are many songs where young Angelina shows this amazing maturity in her writing or her interpretation of lyrics. In another beautiful original song, Shield, Angelina, at 12, thanks her family for the support and protection they’ve given her. One of her most thoughtful and surprising lines in Shield is: “Forgive me for all that I am”. It’s Angelina understanding the burden her career choice places on the family around her who love her. She’s not just an old soul as a vocalist, she’s wise well beyond her years.
And did you ever hear a child singer with the musical patience to give this song the empty space it needs? Her timing is not mentioned much because we’re blown away by her voice, but that timing is immaculate.

Angelina was 12 in this performance. We don’t know exactly how old she was when she wrote the song. However we do know that she was no older than 11 as she recorded the song at 11 with the Norwegian military band for her album It’s Magic. The studio version is worth a listen as is the whole album.
The piano player is Dylan Meeks. The guitarist is Ivan Medez whom she recorded quite a few songs with at this age. If you continue to do Angelina reactions you will come across him several times.

Since you liked this song, I want to let you know that the first video that came out was a lyric video with only the music and her voice. It is my favorite because I think this visual distracts from her vocals. She was younger in the earlier one as she wrote this at age 11 and recorded it for her album, It’s Magic, at age 12. I do like the new ending she threw in (she never sings a song exactly the same way twice!), giving it a more jazzy flair, but the first one pulls at my heartstrings with her innocent voice. Please watch that one as well for a special treat!

I'm addicted to her talent and how she makes me feel with her voice!
The love affair is not between Angelina's voice and the mic. It's between Angelina's heart and our hearts and souls. She connects like no other. There is no mic in many performances, but the connection is overwhelming (check out "Always on My Mind"- a tribute to her maternal grandfather. Guaranteed you will feel it).

Angelina has been writing songs since she was 10 years 0ld - So far 12 have been released: Oslo, What is Life?, Shield, Million Miles, 7th Heaven, Love Don't Let Me Go, Now I'm The Fool, Fire and Rain, All My Fault, Good in Goodbyes, Diamond, and Our Time. Angelina has stated that she has written about 100 songs that have yet to be released. Her songs are taken from her Journal writings. When she was 10/11 she rewrote the Lyrics to Amy Winehouse's Back to Black and Rehab to make them more age appropriate at that time. In addition, Angelina performed an unreleased original song Princess of Ruins at her Las Vegas concerts - if and when that is officially released it will be her 13th original. There will be more coming in 2024 - one original title that is known so far is Bad Valentine.

What strikes me so much about this song and it's lyrics It's not only the beauty of her voice and what she has written about life. It is about the maturity that she reflects at the end of the song that life brings good and bad. She emphasized the good throughout the song but made sure we understood that life isn't all about roses.

When I first heard this song, at the beginning I'm like---OK, this is what I would expect from a 12 year old. Then comes "we come, we see, we go" and "the good and the bad". These are very adult themes, esp. the first one---what child acknowledges the life cycle or even contemplates an ending to it? She has a very special ability to connect as well as to transmit these things to people. She is a study all by herself in quantum physics.
Yes Jeff the moment the line of "maybe Life is just a memory, we come, we see, we go" was a litteral bitchslap from the universe that made a profound effect on me still to this day.
I now tell my oldest son that in life we are only given one thing, Time, so be careful how you spend it and who you spend it with. It now a cornerstone of my daily philosophy thanks to a 12 yo Angelina.

I am 71 and if we are faced with an extreme tragedy, the importance of life goes back to the very basic, your loved ones and a safe embrace these are what are important in the middle of a bad hurricane, or typhoon (I live in the Philippines) flood, fire, or earthquake. Yes, you want those important papers but even above that are your loved ones and that safe embrace. So What is life, it is subjective to your circumstance, but when close to death, that safe embrace just may be the most important.

No. It was released on the release date of the single, on June 1st, 2018. According to what Ivan told Alan Papier in his interview, he only only played with her about in spring and summer 2018. So it was at most recorded 3 month prior to release.
