- Great Northern's new Class 717 entered service on Monday 25th March 2019 - after months of delays. Are they any faster than the 40-year old class 313 trains that they replace? We took a trip to find out. The unit we travelled aboard was 717005 an a stopping service to Welwyn Garden City. Departure northbound faces an uphill gradient of 1 in 200 as far as Potters Bar. Can the 717's beat the 313's and enter the tunnel mouth at more than the older trains 60mph? Lets find out...

The Class 717 is bit quicker than the Class 313 which it has replaced them on the Moorgate-Welwyn Garden City, Gordon Hill, Hertford North and Stevenage services. And Class 717s are now terminating at Stevenage as the new platform 5 has been built.

@Solomon Clarke they do run, they just run reduced services well last time I checked anyway . And I see , you live in gravesend. Maybe I'll try to see myself. Was just asking incase, since you like to record Beno does partial videos . Most would prefer a longer video. Maybe I'll risk it for a biscuit lol and just go up north. @Solomon Clarke yeah, lmao I got used to th mask, although I only wear it when the carriage has alot of people , or perhaps if I enter the train and see the windows were closed or something, I'll open them up and air it out. If it's an air conditioned train then it basically does it by itself . But I'll wear a mask until I'm sure it's good enough . Also I got that damned virus a month ago but I'm cool now. But because of my carelessness, but because people who were close to us got it and then you know the rest. Spreads like a wildfire that shit does

They are as fast as the 350 (acceleration)
I wonder if they are as fast as 360 though , I'm sure 360s are a tad faster but who knows.
I’ve been on the Class 350 and Class 360 and the acceleration is tremendous. Even the SWR Class 444 and Class 450 has amazing acceleration.
What is the class 717's real top speed?
85mph (138 km/h). But on these services, the maximum speed allowed along these tracks is 75 mph (120km/h).
