  • On April 15, 2019, the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris was consumed by a terrible fire. A dark day that will quickly give way to the creative fire of architects, to rebuild this iconic monument of the city of light. Started almost the day after the tragedy, the reconstruction is still going on and should end in 2024, the year when Paris will also host the Olympic Games.
In this video, we will retrace together the different stages of this titanic construction site and we will see where the work is and if it has any chance to be finished for 2024. We will also see that this year is synonymous with renewal for the surroundings of Notre-Dame Cathedral since a new development program is to be implemented to green the square and the back of Notre-Dame by 2027.
In the meantime, I wish you all an excellent video!

A very nice and precise report on the work being done. Thanks you very much. Notre Dame restauration / repair is a huge work with uncertainties but targeted for a partial re-opening to public of Notre Dame late December 2024. At that date, there will still will be outside work on-going and no public visits in the towers yet.
The key restauration axis is to keep the cathedral unchanged both for its aspect but also for its structure. Exat same stone type, exact same shapes, mortar like it was done at its construction on the 12th century, exact same spire as it was designed by Violet-le-Duc on the 19th century.

I have only been to Paris twice in my life, once in 2018 (we were part of those 14 millions) and once, sadly not long after the fire. The vision of the great lady melted our hearts. Only illness has prevented us returning sooner.

Thank you very much for your report, I spent a few days in Paris in August and I very much hope that this wonderful cathedral will be completed by the opening of the Olympic Games.

Unfortunately, the most likely time for an old building to catch fire is during renovation because of all the power tools, wires strewn about, the general chaos. But I remember it was announced that it was definitely not sabotage way too quick for them to know that. (I'm not sure by who at this point, if it was coming from French authorities is just someone in the media declaring it so). Despite my initial reaction being it was just another case of accidental fire during renovation, and I still think that's most likely, the kneejerk, "It wasn't sabotage!" actually made me suspicious.

thankfuly we already have the best workers, engeneers ,architects and artists in the world for restauration. It's an occasion to advertize it. when they starded with the crazy modernist led by "internaitonal architects" projects I almost burst in flames. It was the stupidest possible thing to come up with, an insult to all those great people we have here. It's the work of their lifetime and it's amazing for them , having learnt historical architecture all their life , from the old books of builders , ancient techniques and craft , they deserved it.

Merci aux donateurs aussi.. ce sera Beau et encore mieux tout autour. J'ai une Photo des années avant les évènements et je viendrai pour la seconde Photo. Après la restauration. The massive centering arcs could make many roof structures in their own right. I wonder if there are any plans? Even a few to cover a large room could make a handsome defining basic frame for a timber roof/ceiling.

At least you have a more pressing deadline, the St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna is considerably smaller and still took about 20 years to restore (at least restore the stones because of the limestone having turned black in the course of the centuries due to environmental pollution) lately (they aren't exactly finished yet)
(I mean, we obviously had to do a lot of restoration work after WWII, but that was mainly about the bell tower

If I were to rate your speaking ability based on the criteria that I use in my job, I would say that you are 85%-89% fluent.
