With Elvis you can never lose Elvis can take a bad song and make it great. Everyone has their own opinion on what makes a great song but with the Gospel songs everyone is a A great song thats my opinion. To me Elvis is the greatest gospel performer of all time. Actually for me Elvis is the king of all music.

I feel this is Elvis singing to any women that want to be with him . His life was so so different to anyone else’s. He slept in the day , worked away for months at a time , always had people around him , couldn’t go out in public and he earned a lot of money but he spent most of it on trying to make him self and those around him happy and so many people relayed on him for jobs . He enjoyed and needed the attention he received from fans and women .. all of which would be very hard to live with in saying all that l would have given it my best to love him and the life he lead , take him for who he was and not try to change him ❤

Elvis Back In Nashville is a great album. However, most of the songs do not sound the way they did when they first released. As a decades-long Elvis fan, I know the original versions, of course. While his voice comes out better on this album, I did love the overdubs on some of the original versions.

I don't think I've heard this song before so I'm going to give this one a few more listens before I make any kind of decision on it for myself.
Once again Seph I totally respect your opinion!
I will admit I agree with you about the lyrics of this one- great message!
Okay, so just an FYI: Elvis didn't just record Gospel songs during the May to June 1971 recording sessions.
He also did record some non- Gospel songs and I'm thinking this is one of them.
Moving right along! Recording Session Info: "Love Me, Love The Life I Lead" was written by two British songwriters- Tony Macaulay and Roger Greenaway. (More info on them later).
    This song as recorded by Elvis was recorded at RCA Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee on May 21/ May 22 1971 Hours: May 21st: 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m./ May 21st & May 22nd: 9:00 p.m.- 12:00 a.m./ May 22nd: 1:00 a.m.- 4:00 a.m.
    Producer: Felton Jarvis
    Engineer: Al Pachucki
    Musicians:
    Guitar: James Burton
    Guitar: Chip Young
    Guitar: Charlie Hodge
    Guitar: Joe Esposito
    Drums: Kenneth Buttery
    Piano: David Briggs
    Bass: Norbert Putnam
    Organ: Charlie McCoy
    Back Up Vocalists: Ladies Only:
    Temple Riser
    June Page
    Millie Kirkham
Duet: Temple Riser ("The First Time I Saw Your Face")
Take 1: Long False Start 1:03 (preceded by rehearsal)
Take 2: Long False Start 0:53 (followed by rehearsal)
    Take 3: N/A
    Take 4: Complete 3:16
Take 5: Long False Start 0:32
    Take 6: Complete 3:28
    Takes 7- 11: N/A
Take 12: (Master) 3:21 Unedited Master
Overdub (Master) 3: 20 Brass & String Overdubs on June 21, 1971 Unedited Master
    Faded Master 3:03 Master Faded
I will add here that I can totally hear why Elvis would have wanted to record this song. The lyrics most likely resonated with him.
    LOVELY REACTION SEPH!
    BRAVO 👏👏👏👏🌹🌹🌹🌹🙌💃🙌💃🙌💃🙌💃
THANK YOU FOR SHARING AS ALWAYS 💐
    TCB ⚡ & TLC ❤ & peace ✌& blessings 🙏 to you & yours & to one & all here as well 💕

2nd comment: Tony Macaulay (born Anthony Gordon Instone; 21 April 1944) is an English author, composer for musical theatre, and songwriter. He has won the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors Award twice as 'Songwriter of the Year' (1970 and 1977). He is a nine time Ivor Novello Awards winning songwriter. In 2007, he became the only British person to win the Edwin Forrest Award for outstanding contribution to the American theatre. Macaulay's best-known songs include "Baby Now That I've Found You" and "Build Me Up Buttercup" with The Foundations, "(Last Night) I Didn't Get to Sleep at All," as well as "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" and "Don't Give Up on Us".
Macaulay was born in Fulham, London, England.
In the early 1960s he worked as a song plugger for Essex Publishing, then moved to Pye Records as a record producer. It was here that he had his first major success with The Foundations, when they recorded, "Baby Now That I've Found You", a song he had co-written with John Macleod, and it topped the UK Singles Chart in November 1967.
Further hits came with songs such as Marmalade's "Baby Make It Soon" and "Falling Apart at the Seams"; The 5th Dimension's "(Last Night) I Didn't Get to Sleep at All", David Soul's "Don't Give Up on Us", plus Donna Summer's 1977 single "Can't We Just Sit Down (And Talk It Over)", all of which he wrote on his own. Many others came in collaboration with other songwriters, amongst them were Long John Baldry's "Let the Heartaches Begin", Paper Dolls' "Something Here in My Heart (Keeps A Tellin' Me No)" and Pickettywitch's "That Same Old Feeling", all co-written with John Macleod. Another success for The Foundations was "Build Me Up Buttercup", written by Macaulay and Mike d'Abo. Scott Walker's "Lights of Cincinnati", The Hollies' "Sorry Suzanne", The New Seekers' "You Won't Find Another Fool Like Me", David Soul's "Silver Lady", and The Flying Machine's "Smile a Little Smile for Me" were penned with Geoff Stephens; while Edison Lighthouse's "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)", was written with Barry Mason. In addition, he co-wrote The Fortunes' "Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again", Johnny Johnson and the Bandwagon's "Blame It on the Pony Express" and Andy Williams' "Home Lovin' Man", with Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway.
Much of his attention in the early 1970s was diverted by a protracted legal dispute with his publishers. He won his case on appeal in 1974, in a landmark decision which encouraged other artists to challenge the terms of their contracts. By this time he had begun to turn his back on writing pop songs and started to write for musical theatre. His first collaborations for the stage were with the playwright Ken Hill on Is Your Doctor Really Necessary? in 1973, and on Gentlemen Prefer Anything the following year.
He composed the scores to the films The Beast in the Cellar (1970) and Percy's Progress (1974), and was the music co-ordinator for the film Never Too Young to Rock (1975). He also wrote the music for Windy City, a musical in two acts based on The Front Page by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur, with book and lyrics by Dick Vosburgh, which was premiered on stage in 1982.
Later Macaulay turned to writing thrillers.
    *Fingers crossed this goes through*

This one hits me in just the right spot. Easily one of the best Elvis songs that I've heard. It has such a lovely melody, dynamics, instrumentation, and production. Very reminiscent of some my favorite 70s hits like "Superstar," popularized by The Carpenters. And Elvis showcases the peak of his vocal abilities with confidence and ease.
And that message. As I have said to my friend on more than one occasion, "Can you love him for the person he is rather than the person you'd like him to be?"

In fact I'm all about just letting a person embrace their uniqueness, letting them learn to love themselves. (That journey is a harder one for some than for others.)
And these days you see way more male celebrities hairless. Which has a ripple effect overall.
I prefer to just let a guy do whatever that makes him feel good about himself (within reason of course).

There's been a trend in recent years with guys growing full beards, which I absolutely love. Such a handsome feature on a man. But at the same time there's been a trend with body hair shaving/manscaping that makes me cry. I just don't understand it. That trend can't die quick enough.

He should have sung this to Priscilla in the beginning. She had trouble with who he was. It is a beautiful and reasonable plea for anyone in a relationship. The worst thing so many try to do is change the person they think they love. That is not love, it is narcissism. Again, this is sung beautifully and passionately. A real gem. I think, Seph, that you relate so strongly to some of these songs because you are a lot like Elvis in many ways and you are so perceptive and wise.❤❤❤

    - - - this was a period (for me) musically depressing. I'd throw in similar songs that are neither hit-bound, nor toe tappers:
Its Only Love, I'm Leavin', Only Believe, and Life.
Ironically, these songs are sandwiched in between 2 very hot periods, Elvis comeback with hits like Suspicious Minds, Wonder of You.... etc and 1972 Burning Love. So it was not Elvis failing, it was a lousy choice of music to choose from, as well as lack of creativity in his producer and manager. The 70s (be it live shows or studio music) were constantly vaciliating for me.
Take the Raised on Rock album in 1973, only had a few good cuts, then compare a few years later with Moody Blue, almost all fantastic and this was at the end of his life, so again, it's not that elvis is incapable of brilliance at this phase, but many factors stifled & influenced doing greatness, be they physical, emotional health, or the obstacles from getting solid music to pick from (thanks to Parker for that last one).

3rd comment: Roger John Reginald Greenaway OBE (born 23 August 1938) is an English singer, songwriter and record producer, best known for his collaborations with Roger Cook and Tony Burrows. His compositions have included "You've Got Your Troubles" and the transatlantic million selling songs "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (in Perfect Harmony)" and "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress". They were the first UK songwriting partnership to be granted an Ivor Novello Award as 'Songwriters of the Year' in two successive years.
In 2009, Greenaway was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Roger Greenaway was born in Fishponds, Bristol, England.
Greenaway is best known for his works with Roger Cook. Both Greenaway and Cook were members of the close harmony group the Kestrels. While on tour they decided to begin writing songs together. Their first was "You've Got Your Troubles", a No. 2 UK hit single for the Fortunes (1965), which also made No. 7 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It was the first of several successes they enjoyed during the next few years. Later that year, they began recording together as David and Jonathan. Their first single "Laughing Fit To Cry" did not chart, but they scored hits in 1966 with their cover version of the Beatles' "Michelle" and their own "Lovers of the World Unite". Their penultimate single, "Softly Whispering I Love You", in 1967, was not a success at the time, but became a No. 4 UK hit in 1971 for a subsequent Cook-Greenaway collaboration, the Congregation. In 1968 Cook and Greenaway announced that they would no longer be recording as a duo but would continue as songwriters.

Their hits as writers for other acts, sometimes with other collaborators, include: "Home Lovin' Man" (Andy Williams); "Blame it on the Pony Express" (Johnny Johnson and the Bandwagon); "Hallejuah" (Deep Purple); "Doctor's Orders" (Sunny (UK) and Carol Douglas (US)); "It Makes No Difference" (Joe Dolan); "Something Tells Me (Something's Gonna Happen Tonight)" (Cilla Black (UK) and Bobbi Martin (US)); "I've Got You On My Mind", "When You Are a King", "My Baby Loves Lovin'" (White Plains); "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress", "Gasoline Alley Bred", (The Hollies); "You've Got Your Troubles", "Freedom Come, Freedom Go" (The Fortunes); "Banner Man", "Melting Pot", "Good Morning Freedom" (Blue Mink); "Green Grass" (Gary Lewis & the Playboys); "New Orleans" (Harley Quinne); "A Way of Life" (The Family Dogg) and "Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart" (Gene Pitney).
They also wrote "High 'N' Dry" (Cliff Richard), which was the B-side of "Congratulations",” the runner-up song for the UK Eurovision Song Contest in 1968.
The New Seekers' "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (in Perfect Harmony)" began life as a Cook-Greenaway collaboration called "True Love and Apple Pie", recorded by Susan Shirley. The song was then rewritten by Cook, Greenaway, Coca-Cola advertising executive Bill Backer, and Billy Davis, and recorded as a Coca-Cola radio commercial, with the lyric "I'd like to buy the world a Coke and keep it company." First aired on American radio in 1970, it was also used as a TV commercial a year later, sparking public demand for its release as a single. Reworked, again, to remove the references to the brand name, the single climbed to No. 1 in the UK and No. 7 in the US in 1972. The song has sold over a million copies in the UK.
Blue Mink, Pipkins, and Brotherhood of Man
When Blue Mink were formed in 1969, Greenaway was asked to be lead vocalist alongside Madeline Bell; he declined the offer and recommended Cook, who accepted. The following year Greenaway teamed up for a while with singer Tony Burrows to form the Pipkins, a duo who had a Top 10 novelty hit in 1970 with "Gimme Dat Ding". The same year, he was briefly a member of Brotherhood of Man, who scored a UK and US top 20 hit with "United We Stand".
After Cook moved to the US in 1975, Greenaway worked with other partners, notably Geoff Stephens, both being jointly responsible for Dana's 1975 UK No. 4 song, "It's Gonna be a Cold Cold Christmas", and Crystal Gayle's 1980 US No. 1 country song, "It's Like We Never Said Goodbye". With Barry Mason he penned "Say You'll Stay Until Tomorrow" for Tom Jones, which spent ten weeks within the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot Country Singles (now Hot Country Songs) chart, and went to No. 1 for one week on 26 February 1977.
Greenaway took an increasing role in business administration, becoming Chairman of the Performing Right Society in 1983 and, in 1995, taking charge of the European ASCAP office. He also wrote advertising jingles for Allied Carpets, Asda and British Gas.
Greenaway's son is Gavin Greenaway, a composer and conductor.
    Awards and honours
In 1998, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire for services to the music industry. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York in 2009.
