This waltz is really lovely and haunting, especially those chorus vocals. (2:48) I love that low piano note just before the first verse vocals. (0:21) And that banjo, lead guitar, and ghostly female vocal that's added to the second verse. (3:46) The instrumentation, backing vocals, and production are all so lush. That's a tremolo effect on the guitar that you highlight in the intro. (0:08) It's a favorite of mine as well. And you're right, it was very reminiscent of the time, but still can be heard today. The Smiths used it to especially good effect on their 1984 classic, "How Soon Is Now?" The lyrical message that another has made one a better person is a powerful one that particularly resonates with me, and has been my experience with respect to you and your channel. Comparing Elvis' voice to finger-licking good melted ice cream on a hot summer's day made me smile and chuckle. (9:35)

@@sammy_the_uncool2702 Oh, thank you, Sammy! You are so darn sweet! After reading your comment, I noticed that there wasn't a banjo credit. So I busted out some earbuds to give the song a closer listen. And what I thought was banjo actually sounds more like piano and guitar playing in unison. I also searched RUclips music for this song and was amazed at the number of artists who have covered it. It really is staggering. More than I could reasonably listen to. Elvis has multiple versions in fact. And of those that I have listened to, Elvis' cover is by far the best version.
@@balovett Well to be honest it's super duper hard to be a hater to someone as lovely as you 🌹 Also, full on honesty: I've only ever listened to the original. In my humble opinion Elvis's version is way better than the original. Then again I may be a bit biased because I prefer male singers overall, and most especially baritone & bass male singers. I love the deeper and richer tones of a solid baritone 😊 There does seem to be a mixed consensus on this one however from first listen I have always personally really liked this one as sung by Elvis. SEPH YOU HAVE TO FINISH THE SONG BEFORE JUDGEMENT TIME.. SOME IS COMPLIMENTARY, BUT HOLD ON... SOMETIMES YOU NEED TO WAIT FOR THE STORY TO END... DON'T ASK WHY???? I STLL LOVE YOUR
REACTIONS .. ( SOLITARE) IS A GOOD ONE I THINK OF WITH ELVIS'S LIFE...JUST ONE OF THEM.TAKE CARE FRIEND 🕊🕊🕊

The Smiths used it to especially good effect on their 1984 classic, "How Soon Is Now?"
The lyrical message that another has made one a better person is a powerful one that particularly resonates with me, and has been my experience with respect to you and your channel.
Comparing Elvis' voice to finger-licking good melted ice cream on a hot summer's day made me smile and chuckle. (9:35)
Go on then with your musical knowledge self 😉🙌🎸💃
You should be a music critic. Have you ever thought of starting a music blog or something?
Because you definitely have a way with words + you most definitely have a deeper knowledge of music and instrumentation.
Just my two cents of course & with all due respect Brad 😊
Hope you & yours are doing well 💖🙏💕
@@sammy_the_uncool2702 Oh, thank you, Sammy!
@@balovett Well to be honest it's super duper hard to be a hater to someone as lovely as you 🌹
Also, full on honesty: I've only ever listened to the original. In my humble opinion Elvis's version is way better than the original.
Then again I may be a bit biased because I prefer male singers overall, and most especially baritone & bass male singers.
I love the deeper and richer tones of a solid baritone 😊
There does seem to be a mixed consensus on this one however from first listen I have always personally really liked this one as sung by Elvis.
I can't wait for Seph to react to one of my other personal favorites- a song penned by Gordon Lightfoot 😉
@@sammy_the_uncool2702 Awww **big blush**
Ooooh, Gordon is one of my favorites as well. I have a few of his tunes on my playlist. I'll bet Elvis does a nice version.
@@balovett It's only because of Elvis I discovered Gordon Lightfoot. Another guy with a really nice baritone 😊
You're sweet Brad 🌹💜
The way you try to support Seph in more ways than one is very kind and quite frankly makes you a legend 💪
:D
Note that Millie Kirkham was replaced by Kathy Westmoreland in September of 1970. I think it was Millie who wanted to leave after working with Elvis for 13 years, as she was pregnant I think. Kathy was just as good if not even more talented than Millie. A beautiful woman who Elvis was rather fond of. 😅
I am not sure which one of them sang on this, but it might as well have been Kathy. This song is also has some beautiful live renditions 😊
Kathy started as the replacement for Millie August 16, 1970.
@@timcarr6401 ah! Thats right. Millie just finished all the “That’s the Way It Is” shows! It should be Kathy then!
@@magnejohansen5048 That's Kathy with a 'K', but the same pronunciation.
@@timcarr6401 😅
@@timcarr6401Hi Tim, according to Keith Flynn this track was recorded 17/18 May 1971 and Millie Kirkham together with the Holladay sisters are noted as female backing vocalists. Kathy Westmoreland does not appear in studio recording session credits until the first Stax session in 1973. Have I missed some information perhaps?
Another better.
Here are some of his spiritual songs:
Amazing Graze, How great though art, I found this version of this great song: How great thou art A Capella: ruclips.net/video/Be5y0rMBIFI/видео.html You'll never walk alone, Crying in the chapel, Take me home precious lord, Why me Lord (written by Kris Kristofferson), I'm not sure if it's a gospel song Help me and many more, he also made several Christmas songs, also some type of Blues songs.
.
Here are some ballads and other songs:
Green Green grass of home, Softly as I leave you (very song and might be a real story), Tomorrow never comes, An American Trilogy, Snowbird, Blue Christmas, Walk a mile in my shoes (listen to the words he says in the beginning), Love letters, Devil In Disguise, My Boy, Angel, Don´t, Heartbreak Hotel, Crying in the chapel, Moody blue, That's Someone You Never Forget (tribute to his mom Gladys), Please don't stop loving me, Oh happy day, Music is the food of your soul, Don't, You gave me a mountain, Unchained melody, My Way, Suspicious minds, In the Ghetto (written by Mac Davies), Memories (written by Mac Davies), If I can dream that is a tribute (parts of it is taken directly from the I can dream speech by MLK) to Martin Luther King JR and senator Robert Kennedy, What now my love, Walk a mile in my shoes (listen to the words in the beginning), Welcome to my world, Make The World Go Away, I'll Remember You, Let me be there, Bridge Over Troubled Water, It's Now Or Never (O Sole Mio), An American Trilogy, Hurt, Sweet Caroline, Just Pretend, What now my love, Are you lonesome tonight (laughing version, or not), Oh Danny Boy (for you Irish people), a song that many might not know that he sung it is this one, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, Blue suede shoes, Hound dog, I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water, My Boy, Solitaire, well remember that he sang over 800 songs, yes most of them Covers, but that made the artists that he covered more popular and they also got some money from it...
Have you heard Elvis and his backup singers A Capella (without instruments) before, otherwise listen and enjoy this one and you will finally find out how GREAT his voice was:
ruclips.net/video/Be5y0rMBIFI/видео.html
Some a bit unusual, songs people might have missed:
Stranger in my own town (Blues jamming X rated), Lawdy miss Clawdy, He Touched Me, Let it be me, Blueberry Hill, Turn around Look at me, A mess of blues, Pledging my love
Another video you might want to see is Elvis a Generous heart, or Elvis Presley The king of kindness, ruclips.net/video/GLzGS3qKZbk/видео.html (Elvis won a Grammy video) !!
There are some videos of when Elvis joking and messing up, he loved to joke around and pretend that he did not have control, but he had total control, he actually conducted his musicians and back up choirs all the time!
If you like to listen to tributes, then these might be good:
The Memphis Lallaby (If you love Elvis music and story, this might make you cry) ruclips.net/video/xBZoj1gf_VQ/видео.html
Love Me Tender (James Brown): ruclips.net/video/zrBk0WErpHU/видео.html

The Letter (Wayne Newton) This might even contain Elvis written chorus, I don't know if it was his words, or not: ruclips.net/video/zB2xKw7V46M/видео.html

I came up with a "fantasy" concert that I could really imagine myself watching and listening to and it's with these artists:
Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley and Elvis Presley, would you go and watch them perform if you could ???
I think you might have to check out my Elvis playlist to see what i have reacted to and what i haven't
@@SephPlays Yep, you have some of them there in your list, but you don't have Take My Hand Precious Lord
It was removed due to copyright issues a few months back :((((
@@SephPlays Ok sorry, but I hope you liked it my friend )
amazing song :D it's on my Elvis list if you want to check up where i ranked it "And the others" :D
Great to have you back on the Elvis train and that you feel better. This song is too slow and boring for my taste D-.
Great reaction.👍
I agree.
The pain medication was truly kicking in while i was recording this haha 😂
Never cared for this song. Of course Elvis reached his vocal peak (especially for ballads) in the early 60's. This is at a point in Elvis' career when it was difficult for him to sing higher. I like the live versions of this song slightly better. It's ok. Bottom 150 out of his 700+.
Is she going or is she dying Seph?
Not the stamps they're the ones with JD who has the lowest voice it's possible to have and I'm not sure is actually possible to have
