Marius Neset is one of the greatest saxophone players in the world. He is also an amazing composer! Surely one of the most remarkable moments in your life. Wayne Shorter is one of the greatest creative geniuses ever. Marius, Improvise more often. It's beautiful.
Wow! Marius's tone and melodic concepts here are clearly influenced by Wayne, but also original. The sax is so mesmerizing it's easy to miss how incredible the orchestration is. Complex dissonant chords like 0:15, resolving into sweet consonant chords like 0:30. 1:55 is a spine-tingling moment. So is 3:15. The strings are in strong tension to the melody the second time around, 3:25 - 3:45. So good!
I know this is a year later! But I have just recently landed on this genius. My main reason for commenting is to backup your feeling on this man’s COMPOSING skills. His latest “Circle of Chimes” is gorgeous. And the album Neck of the Woods. Sax, tuba and a choir. Unbelievable. Peace to all. ✌🏻😁
