I love how you used the subtle Astral Chain's UI and sound effect to demonstrate these techniques, feels like a proper in game tutorial :D. I learned a ton, tho I kinda need to keep going back and forth on the video as the game itself is already kinda fast to grasp on. Kudos!
Yeah, when the game presents you a combat scenario, it definitely doesn't let up. The training room is pretty nice to help familiarize yourself with all the different Legion attacks. I've spent a huge amount of time in there, just doing the "1v1" sparring matches to figure out what combination of Legions work best.
First: Holy cow, the editing was so amazing that it me a couple seconds to realize “that’s not part of the game”. Second: I never knew about all of this, so next time I play, I’m gonna spend at least two hours in the simulator to figure it out. Third: This video is underrated. Have a nice day.
The editing was so amazing that despite watching this video multiple times I only realised the blue case things on the left as being edited in after reading the comments
There's an EXCESSIVE amount of effort and production value in this video. You should consider offering your skills to big channels like IGN or similar channels
Thank you for the compliment! Personally, I feel that this amount of effort is necessary, especially when attempting to explain combat mechanics in an action game. Since action games can be kind of hard to get into, especially if it's your first game, new players will need every bit of help they can get. So I thought it would be best to put some visual elements into a tutorial video, so that players can more definitively see what actions are being performed on their first view. It would be really awesome to make this sort of content for bigger gaming outlets but I'm not qualified enough, ha ha. I remember trying to apply for some video editing jobs at gaming outlets like Nintendo and Namco and got instantly rejected because I don't have a video editing degree lol.
Sometimes I remember this video and the amount of effort put in it. I mean, you mimic every hud element and transition of the game. Hope those skills have you a high paying job or something
As others have mentioned I love how you implemented Astral Chain's UI into the tutorial, the charts were also really helpful for visualizing how the moves flowed into each other
I love how you recreated the little menu notifications, it looks great ~ and I’ve plunged soooo many hours into Bayonetta but I think I’m just bad at action games... I’m on Casual rn and I still get destroyed at times - and I never really have the drive to get S+ so it’s fun seeing people like you going ham with combos, this is a great video!
Don't worry about it! I've played a lot of Platinum's titles but this game actually gave me quite a bit of trouble for quite a while. This game can be a bit relentless at times but I'm sure it'll click with you eventually.
probs highest quality guide video I've seen in years ! do you have another channel ? I'm pretty sure if you kept making this kind of content, even if it were only say 6 videos a year, you could live from the revenue
however, I realise now that if you were able to produce such high quality content it probs mean you have a work in this type of field, meaning you probs already earn more than what you'd get from youtube lol if so, do you have any project you would like to share/recommend ?
Awesome video! Astral Chain was my first PlatinumGames game I played and I loved it. I knew the game had depth since I could pull off some basic combos, but never thought the complexity went this deep.
This was a great video. I'd definitely like to see more of this kind of content. When I saw this uploaded, I honestly forgot why I was subscribed to this channel, and then I remembered I use to watch your Bionicle reviews, but then stayed for your Violin covers.
The main hurdle for me is that I don't have a lot of time on my hands. So if I do have free time, I can only really put all that energy into one video at a time. The violin covers are more creatively satisfying for me but if people are more interested in these sort of, informative and thorough kinds of content, I'll definitely look into it. I really appreciate that you left this comment since I don't get this kind of feedback often.
I return regularly to watch this video. Although it is already outdated, it is a great approach really well explained in locusion and visuals, that if later you have to add something else, these bases have done 50% of the heavy lifting even for me who have been testing so much
I was just looking to replay Astral Chain and knew the combo system was fairly deep but nothing like this. The fighting game player in me is screaming with excitement.
I'm sad that I found this video after so many years, the editing is top notch, and the information is very easy to understand and follow, thank you so much
Man, this is very useful thanks, I'm digging in the depths of the combat system and I should say that this game at first looks pretty simple but man, learning how to do some tricks is very fun and opens to a better gameplay experience, thanks
I recently brought Astray Chain after purchasing my Switch recently and I thank you so much for the details of Dodge Offset and linking to Command Skills and Sync Attacks. Also those editing skills on the tabs per demonstration and the constructive labeling is easy to read and understand with a demonstration with your explanation and using the game asset is ingenuity and very orthodox. Your method of execution of moves is sweet especially the "Assault Attack" command skill after a Dodge Offset which i find it hard to trigger it normally and only found it easier by performing a normal attack than link to Assault Attack than Dodge offset to continue the combo. I hope you would continue this tutorial when Astral Chain 2 comes.
7:50 Captain Howard, it was an honor to learn from you and see your skills live. I hope I can follow your dedication to protecting humankind. Doggo and Armies are ready for any challenge! ...Yes, I... It is less confusing when communicating on the field. I didn't change the colors, so...
A good trick for harder fights I sometimes use is I just put (the passive abilities you put on legions, don't know their name) the one that makes it not spend energy after activation for 3 seconds on the Arrow legion, and bring it out using L (the special attack) + time slowing. You'll shoot a lot of arrows before almost running out of energy, but when that point comes just close your legion and bring it out again and the 3 second thing will work again. But the best thing is that it will be restoring its energy during those 3 seconds, so you it'll last even longer. I usually don't use it because you know, I like fighting the normal way, but it's a good way of not getting hit in the harder fights.
14k views, and i wished this had over a million views, the little details of those UI is just amazing, really nifty combos. I honestly respect all that effort.
This is the first time since Metal Gear Rising that I've played a game that I feel it's super fun to master the mechanics and try everything possible. Your video has been a great help and you explain stuff super well. Instant sub after watching this :)
I actually liked this video on the day it came out, but I only realized that I never commented on it when I looked it up just now as a guide cause I felt like replaying the game. So yeah, I just wanted to tell you that you did a fantastic job with this video, this is some amazing tech and your presentation is top-notch.
The dislikes are coming from Chimeras!Came here looking for the perfect call I accidentally did while playing File 12. Saw tons of information and quality video editing!
Good stuff. Very well produced and edited. I'll keep this video in mind if I ever decide to get back into Astral Chain one of these days. I quit the game about halfway through because the performance even on docked mode was just killing my will to play.
You got my sub! Really well done and helpful Guide. Cant believe how in depth the combat system is. Still discovering new things long after I've competed the main story!
I would mess dodge offset more in this game if it worked legion jumping. Like you wouldn't lose a lot of momentum going from enemy to enemy. God tier editing btw, good job man
Oh man the potential for different combos is basically infinite now. I knew about dodge offset but I had no idea how much you could actually do with it. This might change how I play the game completely.
When I tried learning dodge offset in Bayonetta, it killed my vibe to continue the game. it got frustrating af for me. i made a lot of mistakes with the controls. I don't think i'll be going to deep with dodge offset in this game but this is all useful information anyway
Same here bro. Copped Bayonetta a yr ago when I first bought my Switch, played it for a little bit then went to something else. Recently I’ve picked it up again to see if I’d get better at it but no dice. In actual combat I still get thumped. It’s very frustrating. Thinking about trading in Bayonetta to get this instead cause like you said trying to learn dodge offset just made want to put the game down
I was wondering if dodge offset really was in this game because it seemed really impractical to have it in a game where you're already managing two characters at once and using legion skills, which require you to stop attacking to actually have the skill start up. Still, great video
1:40 this game SLOWS DOWN when you open Legion/Item Menu! But only for a few seconds. It will go to normal time if you keep it there! You can see what's coming, make your choice and keep doing your thing ALL ACTION GAMES SHOULD DO THIS!
Can somebody tell me what camera settings you all use? I find this game impossible to play due to the camera, and it’s just been rotting away in my library for the longest time
Man and I thought I knew everything about combat with the first 4 legion (haven’t gotten Axe yet and let’s be honest it looks more like Cloud Strife’s Buster sword then an axe.)
Just picked this up some days Ago.. And i Gotta say. Its damn amazing.. Spend so much time training xD Thanks for making this. Btw: what control preset do you use ? Do you feel like one of them lets you easier combo into all this stuff ? :) Bern playing with presset C
I actually use the default control scheme but it shouldn't matter too much. The main reason I use this is that you can attack and move the camera at the same time. With control scheme C, you can dodge and move the camera so it's really up to you. Personally, I don't really use the dodge button all too often as perfect calls are a lot less risky. I don't think it should make a huge difference since this game isn't too combo heavy. Whichever control scheme is more comfortable to you is the one I'd go for.
God, this game has such a cool combo system yet it goes wasted because almost nothing has HP in this game. It does allow you to own boses is the most stylish way posible thought. I guess they wanted to make regular encounters more focus on positioning, legion techniques and chain bind.
i just started chapter 4... and i really dont get it with all the combos xDD okay you can chain combos after combos in tooo much ways, but seriously how do you have all of this in your head while mid-combat!? the game is soo damn flashy and extreme in every way, i'm happy when i'm at least aware of what is even happening and get some nice dodges... Don't get me wrong the game is fantastic, one of the most exciting games for me, especially after Pokemon Swo/Shi xDDDD -.- (such a big difference in quality) guess i just have to get fluid with the rythm of the game and click the right buttons when lights pop up ^^
You dont need to learn all this stuff to beat the game on standard difficult. Those advanced technicques is more useful on ultimate difficult. This game have a very long learning curve, but it worth.
Jeez... build Arrow Legion with slow attack ability codes, then just keep swapping between Arrow and Axe and keep spamming spin attacks. Nothing can move, everything gets CLOBBERED. (Disclaimer: I have not attempted that yet.)
You just dodge and continue attacking (Bayonetta requires holding the attack button during the dodge but that isn't the case here). There's a tutorial in game for it.
Bro, I think my character is bugged. Sometimes after doing A sync move, my dodge offset just stops working. E.g. I would shoot 2 times, dodge, and when I continue shooting it starts from the very 1st attack. Keeps happening until I come at a full stop. Does anyone else have this?

This is incredibly useful. I always felt like I was just mashing attack, dodging and pressing the legion combo button
That's an excellent video. Thank you for this.

very clear explanations, awesome job, thank you!
It’s crazy how deep Platinum’s games are.
Oh man the potential for different combos is basically infinite now. I knew about dodge offset but I had no idea how much you could actually do with it. This might change how I play the game completely.
There's a reason I love P Games. Stuff like this. I suck at Dodge Delay but when you DO pull it off... Oh MAN does it feel good.
thank you for this homie this immediately upped my style
Thanks for the guide really appreciate it
Man, i've been playing the game the wrong way huh ... Looks like a different game when you play it
Great video. Very informative and easy to understand.
Excellent and useful video, beautifully presented. Liked and Subscribed.
It genuinely upsets me how little views you get. I hope you keep doing this man, your videos are exceptional.

Dodge offset is automatic on Astral Chain. You dont have to worry about this.
Now I know how to fight like in those Combo MAD
So interesting so much to learn

Nicee just what I needed!
Now I need to watch tnis in slowmo so I can actually understand haha. But tbh crazy good editing and wow what combos. I wish I can learn them soon
5:30
You should be able to charge your Fusion Bar REAL QUICK like that!
This video looks amazing! Teach me your editing magic lol
Amazing!
Thanks for the heart!! One question- how did you recreate the effects from the game to use them as text for the guide? It looks amazing
Yup! I used a combination of Photoshop and Illustrator for recreating the graphics and Premiere to animate them.
Wow nice! Thanks for thr reply! :)
This was dope
Hmmm
Now I want to see this game played Co-op!
I’ve been able to continue my combo with the assault attack using the sword legion but the timing on the dodge in the air I find is difficult
Super helpful!
Next, we need a tutorial on the level ari
This game is freakin cool
I am honestly disappointed bayonetta 3 does not have a type of weapon switching offset mechanic
high quality video
Does anyone else have a problem with the camera when in combat
yes especially in a corner with an ennemy locked otherwise it's still managable for me
you forgot to explain how to even do dodge offset. kind of essential for your video
Just picked this up some days Ago.. And i Gotta say. Its damn amazing.. Spend so much time training xD Thanks for making this.

Didnt get this. Dodge offset is automatic? In your example is just ZR, ZR, ZR, ZR, B and ZR? Or I have to do something else?
In Astral Chain, dodge offset is automatic. The inputs you listed are correct.
What are single and multiple sync attacks?
God, this game has such a cool combo system yet it goes wasted because almost nothing has HP in this game. It does allow you to own boses is the most stylish way posible thought.
I guess they wanted to make regular encounters more focus on positioning, legion techniques and chain bind.
Anyone know how to do air combos without aerial enemy
i just started chapter 4... and i really dont get it with all the combos xDD

Very nice vid you give general tips with giving a life story about shit, thanks, great game also 🤗🤗
this got really confusing really fast., maybe a break down of what you're pressing when you're pressing it would help.
My new bible.
Jeez... build Arrow Legion with slow attack ability codes, then just keep swapping between Arrow and Axe and keep spamming spin attacks. Nothing can move, everything gets CLOBBERED. (Disclaimer: I have not attempted that yet.)
Actually does, slow attack 10% with effect spread is 👌🏾
The 4 people that don’t like your vid don’t have a switch and they’re jelly
how bad that i found this video only after ive completed file 12...
ATTENTION
Go to Help in the Menu and you can see all your skills with a demo clip to see when the flash for Synch attacks comes up!
READ UP!
I can't watch this video on my PS4 Pro.
Hi didnt explain how to do dodge offset hahaha
You just dodge and continue attacking (Bayonetta requires holding the attack button during the dodge but that isn't the case here). There's a tutorial in game for it.
