When Stephen brought up being an understudy early in his career, I realized I've been watching him for a long time. I remember being 11 years old back in the '90's and putting a blanket under my door so I could stay up past my bedtime to watch the Daily Show. 25 years later and I watch him on RUclips while I drink my morning coffee. Who woulda thought.
I use to set my alarm and wake up at 11:30pm, wake up my little brother who was in the other bed next to me, throw a blanket over my TV at the end of the bed, back over the both of us and then him and I would watch Johnny Carson back in the mid 60s! haha things never change. I was like 13/14 .. Ill be 70 this fall...

it's nice to know that when Jon B. leaves the show to skyrocket off to his own massive (and well-earned) success, the band will be in good hands. 😊 love the energy between stephen and louis 💚
Jon is a pure soul, but Louis seems like an excellent dude himself. But then again, I would expect nothing less from a musician who works with Jon Baptiste. The man clearly knows how to surround himself with lovely people!
@@lolawants2008 Nothing announced of course and I'm just making an educated guess, but with the new band stage, minus piano, and Stephen starting to interact with the new band leader, well, that just says that Jon is off to other things.
I believe this is the first time anyone has uttered the word “partials” on television* in its definition as a term of the physics of sound (acoustics). He could have also used the term “harmonics” or “overtones” and more people might have gotten it (including Stephen), though partials is the more precise term to describe what different lip pressures produce on brass instruments. *Well maybe it was used on some PBS science show.

When I had to choose my instrument in 7th grade, the band director had me smile hard with my lips closed and a strong chin, then purse my lips and try to whistle. He said I talked too much in class to be able to play the flute and put me on clarinet. That’s embouchure! 😂 (turned out okay since I sat first chair as of 9th grade! band nerd all the way ❤️)

I enjoyed the back and forth with the acting bandleader about his guitar/trombone. I'm an old musician who started as a band kid playing trombone in the late 60's, later picking up the guitar after telling the band director where he could put his trombone. Anyhow..., a lovely shared thing - technique wise - between the two instruments is their ability to bend and slide individual notes. People tell me that my guitar solos sound sort of horn-y.
