Oh shit😮It would be cool to have a RUclipsr edit a over 6 hour long video using the whole movie of The Batman with the ending (with no closing credits) bridge The Batman ending to the opening pilot episode of The Penguin, have the series play through out (AGAIN No closing credits) and when The Batman 2 comes out. Edit the season finale to start Batman 2😊🎉🎉🎉
I don't know why I wasn't excited for the penguin. b I loved the Batman. I think the idea just didn't click for me but actually seeing it wow I'm impressed. I don't think I saw a single trailer for this show and I'm glad.
Agreed. I wasn't 💯 sure if the Penguin show would be good, but it proved me wrong, and I enjoyed it so much that I ended up rematches some episodes of the Penguin. Like more than Batman (2022). Reminded of FX Shogun (2024), which is surprisingly compelling without being too overhyped.
What's crazy is, in this Matt Reeves Batverse, Penguin got his own Robin in Vic before Batman did. Hell, their meeting is even similar to Jason Todd's origin..
In the aftermath of a city that lies in ruin and water, a deadly flightless bird will rise to takeover EVERYTHING that is left in the face of torrential chaos!
Its set in modern times 😂 in the film, riddler was using social media. Gotham just has an old esthetic to it. Gotham is based on a blend of NYC, Chicago, and London with a gothic twist. Its dirty, massive, crime infested.
The movie and this show are great at making you forget it’s in current times, which I think others should take note on. We know everyone’s on their phones and addicted to voila media or what not, we don’t need that reflected in the movies. No “what are those” jokes
-“This is the rawest we’ve seen a Batman show. They dropping the F-bomb like it’s nothing, they shooting people in the face…” -“They be showing some titties” -“Yo!” Hilarious!
This was a great first episode and Colin Farrell was born to play this role. Its still hard for me to believe thats really him underneath all that makeup.
Making a limited series is a great way to expand the world and be a bridge between the films. I look at this as more of a Penguin mini comic book series before the next Batman story, which it is. Not every comic book series needs multiple seasons. When you can tell an effective story involving an interesting character, then that's what you do, and I'm fine with that. Really good pilot episode. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
Listen, Cristin Milioti is super cute but holy hell, she's scary in this show! The eyes, man..... Her eyes freak me out especially when she had Penguin gripped up and then when she screamed seeing Al dead, that was her in pain but that was also "The demon is out now". That would've been my cue to run even if I didn't do anything
Agreed... kinda. Miles is supposed to be younger than Peter, Tom Holland looks Forever Seventeen so if you cast Rhenzy Feliz to be his Miles we're gonna have to do some suspension of disbelief that Miles is the youngest of the two even though Feliz looks older than Holland irl. But it's nothing I can't deal with, I'm loving Rhenzy in this, I want to see how he would play Miles.
The huge irony is -- Carmen Ajogo plays The Penguin's "alibi" in this episode, when she (the actress) used to be married in real life to actor Jeffrey Wright (i.e., the future Commissioner Gordon in the Matt Reeves-films).
The purple car is a reference to the Batman tv show from 1966. The Penguin in that always had cars and toys with that purple color, matching his bow tie and top hat. Also, Oz lives over Burgess' Jewelers, a reference to Burgess Merridith, the man who played the first live action Penguin in 1966.
He has a club foot…..it’s inspired by the 30s gangster films that’s why it’s got that old school look but it’s definitely modern day…..they made penguin relatable by making him born poor instead of rich like in the comic
The Batman takes place in 2021 from October 31st to November 6th The Penguin takes place a week after Gotham just has that Classic Retro feel to it especially in the less wealthy places We know it's 2021 because of Bruce and his age + the Wayne's Murder Which happened in 2001 and the film takes place 20 Years After Bruce is 30 in The Batman but was 28-29 when he started being Batman 1 year and 6 months before the film takes place Though in the film there's a newspaper and An eviction notice that says 2019 but that's most likely because they were shot before the production's pause in covid and the original script Also some forget The Batman was originally going to release in June 2021
That's the difference between HBO and Disney, HBO can take chances and create something new and great, Disney has to stick to a formula and can't take as many chances.
17:11 What I think this means is that earlier in the episode, Penguin says to the kid that he makes himself look small so that the big boys he's working for feel powerful, so Sophia is basically saying: "I know what you're cable of, you aren't the rodent you pretend to be and I'm on to you"
I didn't expect it to be important. And I liked it. And it leaves the issue of Penguin's management of Gotham in its darkest moments... until his gradual rise to power. And Collin Farrell does it brilliantly!!
Man, this all happened in one ep 😮 can’t wait for more. The Batman world from Matt and now the Penguin, is what I’ve always wanted from a Batman live action, personally.
i have watched the batman 11 times too and man I don't get bored of it. the penguin after the 1st episode I'm blown away. way better than I expected and cant wai for what to come and the batman part 2 script finished cinema is back .
Great episode and great reaction! Penguin has club foot. Developmental disease where his foot didnt grow correctly on the womb. It can also develop after birth due to malnutrition but i doubt that happened. King Tut also had club foot die to family inbreeding.
I was thinking this before the title card popped up: "Ok, so it's gonna be that kinda show. Penguin is gonna rise up while showing that Alberto ain't shit like his daddy and manipulates everyone around him to-OH SHIT! That bitch is dead...I'm hooked."
12:07 He has clubfoot. Easily treated with surgery during childhood, which might speak to some more backstory of humble beginnings. I’m hooked! Cannot wait to see more.
Don't know if it's an actual Easter egg, but Victor trying to steal Oz' rims reminded me a lot to Jason Todd doing the same to the batmobile in his comicbook debut. Too much of a coincidence to not be intentional
@@blucaptain As much as I love Joker, I would like to see other villains have their turn to shine in this Gotham. Professor Pyg in this HBO level series would be a absolute nightmare.
Yeah the reason everything looks 80s-90s is because of how broke Gotham city is. They haven’t made any progress with improving the city since the Wayne’s died
The news report about Alberto is very similar to what Colin was going through during his partying days. I'm sure the same kind of papparazi footage exists.
I like how Batman is kind of like a “shark in the water” in this it’s like you know he there but he doesn’t intervene in the inner power system so all the mob bosses can control Gotham from a power stand point and Batman controls Gotham from a crime stand point
*Loved the first episode* and was losing my mind thinking about what the “new drug shipment” could be… but low-key think it’ll just be a generic drug like heroine low-key.
Take notes disney. Andor and this are what we want. Dark, and gritty. DO THE SAME THING WITH MARVEL. man who am I kidding, they cant....Tho the new Cap movie looks promising...
Even though they can't hear what's going on, I'd like to think the cats behind the scenes are enjoying the atmosphere of this new banger, they're nice and comfortable
Gotham show penguin was close to this but it wasn't as raw but the character itself was it that makes any sense....but this is going to be epic...this is the best first episode of a show Ive seen in a long ass time
Honestly yall should check out gotham eventually. Its more a cop show with like young bruce and shit, its fun. Not as heavy as this show but i think you’d enjoy it- still pretty rated r
Going to the point why Sofia let Oz go. Without Alberto she had no connections so at that point she actually did need him. Plus keeping him close she could keep digging.
Colin Farrell absolutely kills this role. Y'all need to check out Sugar if you haven't already. He killed that role too. Noir detective show with a twist, all I'll say

One of the buildings signs in this episode is "Burgess Jewelry" which is a call back to the original Penguin actor from the 60s Burgess Meredith 🤯
