    Heck YES, I'm always happy to see people talk about Van Gogh watercolours :D
    I've been using these paints for over half a year. Out of all cheaper brands I've tried so far, this is the only one that doesn't show the shiny residue after drying. They even stack up well against some of the professional brands. They rewet instantly and paint out super smoothly, they also have some of my top favourite colours - their Rose, Turquoise Green & Davy's Grey are top notch in my opinion! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who has a soft spot for good ol' Van Goghs :)

    • @EveBolt

    Definitely like this 15 colour set better than the 12 colour one (I grew up with 12 colour opaque watercolour sets in my school art classes, so I'm always weirded out when transparent sets lack magenta and cyan. I know I can mix pinks with a lot of water+ a bluish red, but mixing feels so much easier when magenta and cyan are included, as well) I got the original 12 colour set and the muted colour one and I love those, but when my sis thought about getting water colours for herself, I treated her to this one and it'll also be the one I recommend for other beginners, too

    VanGogh is one of the brands I started out with in my watercolor journey. I still love their naples yellow reddish, and have it in my main palette still to this day. I like the looks of this set. It feels a little closer to what we seem to look for in a good range minus the white. I would take that out and replace it with a payne's grey, or Turquoise light or something to round out the colors. Great review and cute painting!

    I love that van gogh has a lighfast chart available for all it's colors, só you can even sell your art with this brand without problems, and whitout necessarily buying a professional set.
    Another good brand is white nights because, despite being professional watercolors, are very affordable for their category...

    It reminds me of the Pablo's Choice watercolor set of 24 paints which no longer seems available. I really like the Pablo's Choice set for coloring books and travel as it has a similar palette, to the Van Gogh set, and came with a water brush, regular brush, and sponge plus the 9 extra colors. I don't know if it had a similar price, as I bought my sets in 2017, but I bought 5 sets so it must have been a very good buy like the Van Gogh set is now.

    Oh yay, your timing is perfect - this video is basically my bedtime story for tonight 😂
    I was really interested in this set for a while, mainly for the mixing spaces. I ended up getting the 14 color Kuretake set instead, and I'm quite happy with it. There's definitely less paint in my pans than in this Van Gogh set, but I don't mind - I'll keep using the palette long after I've run out of the original paints. I think the Van Gogh palette looks larger? Idk. I'm very happy with my Kuretake set, but if I hadn't been able to get that I think I would've been perfectly happy with this one. Not the 12 color set, though - it REALLY annoys me that they have that massive wasted space for their logo 😅

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  4 года назад +4

      The Kuretake 14 colors set is one of my favorite boxes, I love how compact it is and it has the right number of mixing sections XD
      What I love of the Van Gogh box is that I can pop off the mixing tray if I need more space!! :D
      Good night! ♥

    • @anjakritzelkram5544
      @anjakritzelkram5544 4 года назад

      I think the Van Gogh paints are much nicer than the Kuretake ones, but I really really like the Kuretake box as their Zig waterbrush is my favourite since I started to use waterbrushes and you also can store a fineliner and a small pencil and you are good to go.

    • @FaerieDust
      @FaerieDust 4 года назад

      @@anjakritzelkram5544 I've never tried Van Gogh, so I don't know what I'm missing 😉 the Kuretake pans were really not very full, at least in my set, so I think I'll go through them relatively fast. I'll keep the palette long after the original paints are gone though, I love it way more than I thought I could like a plastic palette at all! It's compact, lightweight, has the fourteen pans + space for pens and brushes or sticking down extra pans (though I think fourteen should generally be more than enough for me)... And the mixing spaces, they're my favourite part - large enough to be useful, but small enough that you get far more than any comparably sized travel palette I've seen. Four large, three medium, and two small mixing wells, now every other palette I look at feels inadequate - I'm already so used to having dedicated spaces for all my secondary and tertiary colors, I get annoyed with less 😂
      I haven't tried the water brush yet. I tried one Pentel one and kind of noped out, I disliked it so much that it feels unnecessary to "start" another one - I'll be painting from home anyway, I'm quite happy with regular old brushes for now. Hopefully one day I'll get the hang of them, they seem awfully practical!

    It looks a really useful set. I met an artist in southern Spain who uses Van Gogh for all his watercolour paintings. The only thing that I'm not keen on is the amount of brighteners used in Talens watercolours. I suppose they're catering to the current trend for ultra bright colours. I've read somewhere that all the colours in the Van Gogh range are light fast so that has to be a big thumbs up that probably outweighs any negatives. The box and brush look great too.

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  4 года назад

      Haha! XD
      I wrote to them, following your suggestion, and they replied super fast! They are transitioning (I think Bee was purchased and now belongs to the same brand as Pentalic..?) and the paper will be back in stock as soon as they start producing it again. PHEW XD

    Would you recommend to swept out the white for magenta, cyan or another color?

      Yes, I would! The set has a nice magenta in the quin. rose color and a nice cyan in the cerulean blue (phthalo) color. I think it could do with a violet though, something like dioxazine violet (pv23). Or maybe a teal if that's a color that appeals to you. If you have a favorite color that's not in the selection yet, that can be a good option!

      Van Gogh is Talens' student range. Rembrandt is their pro watercolor range.

    It is a shame that they didn‘t use this +3 layout for their other boxes even if they kept them empty to add 3 more colours of your own choice.
