- Something I have been working on while messing around with LSDj
I am a bit of a beginner to this software so sorry if errors and stuff :)
LSDj settings of all the instruments: bit.ly/2UwHSSB

Also this is supposed to be played in stereo. Mono will make the intro sound weird.
Here it is on soundcloud with download:

This was made on a program called LittleSoundDj
It can be found here: www.littlesound...
This was recorded on a Gameboy Pocket
Remember, kids: If your parents tell you that the technology is "obsolete" and to "buy a new one", it's totally OK to ignore them and rock out.
Sadly many people forget retro and only care about new things. :(
It's usually the inverse that happens. They want us to keep the old technology as long as we can.
Dat bass
LEL
postprocessed in video probably
I like this a bit.
Bit-like
that's one of the most spectecular things i've seen someone produced in a longe time. so much respect for that
Any mods done to this gameboy?
Dear fellow Chiptune geeks please leave me some comments on my new Chiptune album.
How would you connect a gameboy to an audio mixer and if so, what type of wire would you use?
+Erasmus Lang As above a audio jack to RCA would work. It would also be advisable to look up the "prosound mod" for gameboys where you get the audio before it goes through the low quality internal amplifier of the gameboy.
If you have any questions regarding this software or recording I will be happy to answer (eventually)!
+Josh Waites do you have this as a vst? or instrument? it would be cool to use this on ableton
+Ernest Mirosław Dobrowolski Dueńas Don't have them sorry :/ the song just exists on the flashcart :/
Is there anywhere where you can buy a lsdj cart? I can't find one
+Aerosquid47 There's no specific cartridge with LSDj on it, instead you purchase a flash card for the gameboy and put the LSDj rom file on it.
The cartridge I have that I think is the most common one is the USB 64M Smart Card which can be found here store.kitsch-bent.com/product/usb-64m-smart-card
+Josh Waites My question is how did you capture the sound from the GBP? I have LSDJ on my EverDrive and I've been meaning to pick it up.
How did you get the note overlay if you don't mind me asking?
It's a software called LSDJ, google it.
Yeah, I get that. I have LSDJ and use it. I was just wondering about the screen overlay in the upper left hand corner.
I have a hunch: an extra copy of the video is cropped and placed in the corner. Then it's perspective adjusted, repixalated, inverted, thresholded, and mixed with additive blend mode (or something that kills the blacks). Just how I'd do it at least.
TechnoJon96 Basically exactly what I did o.O
Used chroma key to get out the black and a lot of cropping :)
And now, we have Sour Cream.
Is there a software that can create chiptunes without a gameboy?
You can also download the Visual Boy Advance emulator and use LSDj in your computer.
Emulator
Gijs No, don't use an emulator.... Just use FamiTracker.
Famitracker is a 2A03 emulator.
+RoshblueX MilkyTracker is a great lightweight music tracker for PC and other systems. Check out www dot woolyss dot com, it's a very nice resource page if you want to get into chiptunes.
Definitely an awesome track ^-^ And impressive considering you're a beginner (or "were", I guess, given this was posted roughly a year ago).
Wow. amazing. I love this band. and I have lsdj for my grey. but I couldn't get Into the interface and couldn't figure out how to get interesting tones withiut listening to annoying buzzes for hours first. Thanks for posting!
+Cole McCray Takes a little while to get used to but it will click after a while if your persistant enough. Having past experience with composing or, even better, use of music trackers, you'll find it easier to get used to.
Video tutorials on RUclips mostly seem to be pretty vague so you might be better off downloading the PDF manual from the official site and learning through that, especially so you can look back at anything specific if you forget.
Thanks man! I never thought about looking for the manual ;-p
I prefer this to the original
I stumbled across this while looking up gameboy backlights about 9 years ago. This was enough for me to get LSDJ. It's taken since then to wrap my head around it. Great video, and honestly tutorial (showcase?).
How do I get started? Just bought an Atomic Purple lol
What exactly are you doing on the bottom left screen? Are you actually making changes as the song goes, or is it more just to navigate the menus and show things as they play?
I've been fascinated by chiptunes and LSDj for a while but it always looked so intimidating. Great job!
do you still have the .SAV ID really like to look at your instrument settings
This is sooo dope!
Do you have the LSDJ .sav file so I could mess around with it too?
what is he doing with his fingers?
showing the different notes he put in
***** OH!! of course! That does make sense. Thanks a lot!
That's what she said! Sorry... had to...
How do I get started? Just bought an Atomic Purple lol
buy a usb gameboy catridge
+BlueThaBrain As said above to use the software on a gameboy you do need a USB Gameboy cartridge which has to be purchased online. My suggestion would be to get LSDj and try it out on a PC emulator such as Visual Boy Advance before purchasing the USB Gameboy Cartridge.
this is still all magic to me. i dont know how this works
***** im getting used to it.
i havent done much though
Are you keying that in live? Like a step sequencer?
A lot of work to add that text on the video. Nice, thanks.
Dude you need to make a tutorial. I can't make a song worth a damn lol
+GT6SuzukaTimeTrials I just learnt by messing around with it really, there are some pretty great guides out there such as "Sabrepulse LSDJ Tutorial" which was a real help and I'd strongly suggest if you wanted to learn more then downloading the official LDSj Operating Manual which can be found in the documents section of the downloads on the littlesounddj website.
Wohaa this is amazing ty! *o*
Its like a game of rythm
But 30x times cooler
its the artist that make good things out of anything .. you are awesome.
What your favorite bit? Comment timestamp below...
0:00 - 3:23 those bits rocked
This has a feeling of Psy near the beginning
Man I want to see this guy do more stuff.
do you have the mod file?
Very cool! I love old school games and the tune created is great!
where the fuck can i get an lsdj cartridge in Argentina? (or anywhere)
Sadly (I don't know of) any dedicated LSDj cartridge being produced, however, I used a gameboy flashcart from Kitsch Bent (store.kitsch-bent.com/product/usb-64m-smart-card) which is the USB 64m Smart Card. Other Gameboy Flashcarts are avaliable as well, they let you put a gameboy ROM file onto it and allow you to play the ROM on a gameboy.
You are also able to used LSDj on a PC with a gameboy emulator (such as Visual Boy Advanced). You can get the LSDj rom here: www.littlesounddj.com/lsd/
QUITE A TUNE
Exurb1aGODs…
Work on making more complex instruments. You're on the right track.
Yeah this was the first thing I did so I just didn't touch the instruments :p
Also the Pocket honestly is kind of the worst Game Boy to use for lsdj. It's good if you're first getting a hold of using LSDJ, but the sound output is blech and other models have better battery life.
Beck436 but it's so pretty xD but at the moment I am using a DMG
TyeDyeVideos You should get a modded gameboy like one made by this guy:
chipmusic.org/forums/topic/4421/fsft-modded-gameboys-and-other-stuff-updated/
My friend just bought one off him and it works like a charm. $200 bucks is a bit, but not much for a nice play-it-now DMG.
holy bass
I wonder, does this hurt the gameboy? I want to do it but... keeping my bb alive is more important.
+Nicole Martinez Does the LSDj software hurt the gameboy?
The software is loaded onto a flash cart which acts like a standard game cart (such as any pokemon game)
The gameboy loads the software the same way as a game and you can take the game cart out and put in a different game and it will be just fine :)
Josh Waites thank you :)
+Josh Waites I hope that's right. Where you can get such a card and how do you record it?
It what possible way could it damage the gameboy?
Using 3rd party or homebrew applications on a 3DS can damage it so I guess people would be hesitant to using 3rd party application/game on a gameboy :)
this is my favorite xx cover ever
so nice
I like it!!!.....👍👍👍👍
Awesome video man!
Dope
How?
Awesome song! Congrats!
Slash plays guitar like you play Gameboy #ShredGangHallOfFame
元からミニマルな曲だから、音数が少ない8bitの音色との愛称も良いね
AMAZING!!! F*cking Insane :) :) :)
how did you record it? sounds really clean and nice
+joe bartholomeus Connect a jack from your pc to the gameboy and boom done ! :D (audacity will help you to record after)
yeah i did that too, but it sounds aweful...any advice on effects to use? (except for reverb)
Ok :/ sry cant help you more than that bro
+joe bartholomeus For this video I transferred the save file to my PC and recorded it directly from the save file.
This lost some of the quality however.
I have currently finished a new song (which I have been working on and off for the past year and a half) and have modded a gameboy to have an extra audio jack. The reason recording from the standard gameboy audio jack sounds rubbish is the audio signal is put through an internal amplifier before reaching the headphone jack, since the gameboy was designed years ago the amplifier wasn't anywhere near as good as the ones we have nowadays. The modification I did was taking the audio signal before it was passed through this amplifier.
If you want a tutorial or more information on this search "gameboy pro sound mod"
Sorry for late reply
noprob, thank you!
i can imagine how this is done, but will this take out the cpu noise? like when i press a button i can hear some noises

Great job Tye!
i like the song i also do the lsdj on a clear dmg loud boy

zach roberts I've recently upgraded to a clear DMG gameboy with a bivert, back light and pro-sound mod which is looking and sounding sweeet
I have a little chip in the back of my gameboy dmg clear boy. that allows leds to flash to sounds the gameboy makes I'll make videos soon. have to replace my front screen first
great job! Well done
Awesooome 😎
that's pretty impresive!
Classic
big up !!
Amazing!!!!! Love it!!
Nice work :D
Grate jorb!
How the hell do you do that on just a gameboy?? I understand what LSDJ is and just started toying with it but to do this "freestyle" I can't wrap my head around it! Sounds great BTW!
Hi Josh! Is it okay if I feature a snippet of your video at my Vlog? I will be giving you due credit on my video. I am making a review of the GB USB Smart Card as well as its features. It can run LSDj, and I want to show how cool it can be.
that gameboy bass tho....remix this with some vaporwave and u have another 1 million views easily
By any chance could I have the .sav file? I'm trying to learn off other's work and if you could provide that that would be awesome!
Who ever thought Game Boys could came back and would be so awesome? :D It sounds totaly great!!!
you know it's a modded gameboy when you don't hear artifact noises through the headphones when you turn it on :D.
I wish there was a Neo Geo Pocket version of Little Sound DJ
Damn it sounds awesome but must be crazy hard to execute :D
Wow, Ty da DJ.
This is awesome! Sounds great for the Game Boy!
how did you overlay the white code in the video exactly matching the song? making this manually is just too much work
That's a Game Boy Pocket! Not a ordinary Game boy!
no shit sherlock
Coolest shit ever! Really awsome!
I literally thought LSDJ was a drug reference/pun until I just now found out it stands for "little sound DJ"
definitely still a drug reference lol
I've always known that's what it stands for, but I think it's still plausible that it's a reference to the drug.
@@607 yeah it's probably a backronym type situation
That's more than amazing!
did you add pro-sound to your gameboy?
If i put this program onto a ds gamecard would it still work?
a lot of time on your hands..
27 people are deaf
I need a GBS file.
Lol my iPad thinks this is the song normal LOL
NiteDasher wat
Thomas Maher
I don't know.. was I hacked?
+NiteDasher Yes
How do you get this on an actual game boy? I can never find any cartridges that work...
This was the cartridge I bought, and then I put the rom file onto it store.kitsch-bent.com/product/usb-64m-smart-card
Josh Waites i do have that cartridge. I've been having trouble loading roms onto it
Josh Waites how were you able to load roms onto it? I've been following this tutorial without success: www.hkems.com/files/EMSlink/64bit_Driver_Installation_Guide.pdf
